Great Course with Caddyshack Charm

Pulling up to the course, you start to feel nostalgic of the 1960s Golf atmosphere. The Main entrance for example, is a Brown wooden carved sign that is much more stoic than the typical Printed Sign you see today. There is also an old clubhouse, that I can imagine filled with staff serving hot-dogs. As someone who enjoys Urban exploring, I enjoyed this little feature a lot.

The course is also in fantastic shape, and I was privileged to have gotten away with such an inexpensive tee time through GolfNow. As far as conditions are concerned, the course was a little "hard" and I could see it baking out towards late July and August, but right now it's as green as can be, and the Greens themselves were fantastic.

If you are looking for a place to golf that is designed to be challenging but still fun, this is the curse for you. It has Water Hazards, Sand Traps that are so very carefully paced, and a lot of woods. The entire course is relatively flat, so if you are looking for a course to walk this is the place to be. Overall the course will challenge you to think ahead; the fairways look wide open off the tee, but some leave a tough second shot up to the green over a trap.

One really bright spot that I am starting to see at more courses is a pin layout on the scorecard. They tout six different pin locations, and most of the greens have three levels, leaving some very exciting putts. It's nice to know going out where exactly the Pin is, instead of having to make an educated guess based on the color of the flag.

Bipolar at best;

My friends have learned from me that a good round starts before you even get to the course. It takes preparation, and google earth.

From the start, a golfer visiting here will be confused at first. Google Maps, and the street signs, all point to Limerick Golf Club. It's important to note that the club has changed ownership in the past couple years, and it's still getting it's feet wet with the name Landis Creek. They've set up there website with this name, and have tried separating the restaurant from the course; the Pro shop isn't in the building, it's in the hut out back. From the sign on the Highway, to the Scorecard and Logo Balls, you'll feel like you are playing two different courses.

Perhaps the course could benefit from this? Maybe. The course is two very different set's of Nine Holes. The front is flat and easy to manage, with a good chance to make some Birdies. The back starts off with a challenging 212 yard par three, and only get's more difficult with Blind shots and tight fairways. If I were going to only golf nine holes, I'd avoid going off of the back nine like the plague.

Overall the course and management did a great job with amenities. There was a Cart Girl driving around with Beverage's, and we saw here more than twice! In addition, they had a grill set up outside with Burger's and Hot Dogs! Beer was reasonably priced, with a four pack of Rolling Rock only 8.50!

The rough was thick, but playable. The greens were fast, but smooth. The whole day worked out well, and for being just outside the reached of the Snotty Clubs like Merion and Aronimink, it's well worth driving here to play.

Oh btw; The restaurant has a HUGE patio, so if you like spending time outdoors, this is the place for you. The 19th hole here is great for everything.

"Home of the Blind Shot"

This is a great course for Golfer's with some experience who are looking for a quality outing. The course plays wide open, and has more than one hole with a forty yard fairway; perfect for the slicer in all of us.

The one downside to this course are the expansive hills you end up hitting over. There are multiple holes where you can't see the landing zone, so you really have to keep an eye on your ball flight. The rough is thick (it was nice to have, but difficult), so if you lose track of the ball you may have trouble looking.

The course makes up for anything it might lack with it's amenities. Once you find the course, a Golf Cart will be delivered to your Car by an attendant. Once you're loaded up, it's a short drive up a hill to the clubhouse in the distance. The clubhouse has a great porch overlooking a range, with a putting/chipping green wedged beautifully between holes 18 and 10. Perfect for Warm-Up practice before the round. The staff was also very helpful, and I would highly recommend saying hello.

Don't waste your money, especially if it's August.

What you pay for is not what you get. This course has a great layout, but really isn't cared for. The Greens were harder than a Rock, and multiple holes had huge burnouts. Unless they dramatically improve course conditions, don't waste your money.

Scrappy in the Summer Heat

The first time I played this course, it was early in the morning and we we're paired up with another twosome. The course was challenging but manageable, and it left a good impression. I think the only thing I was unhappy with that day was the starter, and he must've been grumpy because it was early.

The Second Time Around I played in the afternoon, and got to play as a twosome. Before my round, I was lucky enough to participate in one of their Clinics. The course has a Pro that offers Putting, Chipping, and Swing Clinics on the first Saturday of every month. I took the Chipping one today. It was informative, and it reiterated some various short game techniques. One thing I learned that I really wasn't taking advantage of was weight distribution during a chip (Put it all up on that front foot, and eliminate the occasional skull). During practice after learning a new technique, the pro was very willing to take a couple minutes with each participant for one on one time, which was appreciated greatly.

My Tee time was shortly after, and for the amount of rain we just had, I was surprised at the conditions. However the Pro shop attendant and Starter we're great! They were extremely friendly, and made my time very enjoyable. As for the course, It may have been a lapse in upkeep during the rain, but I was slightly surprised. The Course didn't play soft at all in the fairways, and the Greens had just been aerated; the end of July... really? This made putting extremely difficult, and I lost all feel for my putter.

Overall I felt that for a course which was in good shape a month ago, it needed some work. The gravel Cart Paths are also a bummer, as the rubber tires on the Carts kick up the stones. My suggestion would be to Hire a road crew to flatten it out with a piece of Heavy Equipment. That would flatten out the surface, and make for a better impression and a smoother ride.

Don't get me wrong, I will still continue to play here. It's a nice course and they provide some great amenities. I wouldn't mind taking another clinic, and I'm determined to break 100 here. The extra putts, really didn't help this last outing.

Beautiful, but bring lot's of Balls

This Course was challenging with the Tall Grass Everywhere, and I lost quite a few balls. The Course was beautiful though, so I'll get over the balls.

As a single in the late afternoon, I was able to breeze through the course as a whole. There were a couple foursomes out at the time, but they were very courteous and let me play through. On the holes where I didn't loose my ball I was able to attack the greens and made more than a few pars, but the moment your drive goes in the rough, you're done for.

Good Course to Work on Your Swing, Bad for everything else.

If you are looking to get your swing down, it's a very easy layout to attack and put up low numbers. I consistently golf around 100, and I had no problem playing Bogey Golf through Nine Holes. There is no difference between playing out of the rough and the fairways; the rough is not thick enough to slow your club down.

I liked the ease, but hated the conditions. It's almost as if disrepair is the normal, when all it would take is a couple guys and a shovel to fix some of their problems. Not to mention I had multiple two puts where the putt might have gone in if the green was rolled. Two Words: Carpet Greens.

Be Careful when you go, as the Leagues there are huge, and slow. I was disappointed I couldn't play more holes after work, when the course is extremely quick to play. Out of the Public Philadelphia Courses, this was one of two I had never played and now I am glad to have crossed it off my list.

Get Out Now while you still can!

This course is in the best shape it as been in years. The course is green and the fairways are huge in comparison to what you see on google earth. Other than the fact that there is a lot of work to be done around the third hole, this course has really benefited from the increased rainfall in our area; an outdated irrigation system can make it extremely difficult to water in the heat of the summer. These conditions are here now, but once July rolls thru it is certain that they wont last. Play it while you can, otherwise wait till the fall.
