The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 01/18/2020Good Pace For A Change
We attend the PGA Show every year and stay in a villa at Orange Lake. We did play this course regularly until a few years ago when it was managed by Integrity Golf and got very run down. It has been back in good form the past few years. The greens were smooth and I stimped one and it was 8.5. The pace of play here is usually an issue but today we teed of at 12:06 and finished in just under 4 hours which is great. Weekend golf here is usually very slow. My colleagues even replayed the front 9. There was a minor problem at the start. I dropped my clubs at the club drop and parked my car. When I arrived back at the club drop my clubs were already on a cart so I attached my GPS holder to the cart, tossed on my laser, and went to the proshop to check in. When I returned to the clubdrop my clubs were back on a stand and the cart with my GPS holder and laser was gone. Fortunately the cart boys managed to recover my property and all turned out OK except that I didn't play the 1st hole.
Grand Cypress Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 01/06/2019Nice Course but Bumpy Cart Paths + Expensive F&B
Great value $49 on Sunday afternoon 12:30 tee time. The fairways and greens were in good condition but not great. I gave myself 2 drops on the fairways due to abnormal ground conditions (I am a rules official). Some of the greens were a bit splotchy. The course itself has many pot bunkers and demands shot planning and shot making. The greens are quite undulating and some have false fronts. It is not uncommon to see your ball roll off the green if it lands in the wrong place. All putts are demanding. The cart paths are atrociously bumpy. They shake the crap out of you and likely damage the cart. Better to drive on the fairway. It is disappointing that a course of this quality would have such poor cart paths. F&B is outrageously overpriced both at the restaurants and from the refreshment cart. (The turkey sandwich from the cart was good but really dry and needed mayo.)
I indicated that the pace of play was good because we were the first group off the back nine at 12:30. However I must explain that I signed up as a single on GolfNow and joined 3 other golfers who did not maintain a good pace. Regardless of handicap they all went through an extensive pre shot routine that would make a PGA Tour pro envious and also after putting out they would often replace the ball and attempt the putt again even with the group behind waiting to hit their approach shots or waiting on the tee of the par 3s. I feel that this type of behaviour is very callous. This is not a reflection on the course but only on the clientele that play there.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 01/05/2019Slow Saturday Round On a Regular Course
Played the With and Blue on Saturday. Course was in fair condition. Nothing remarkable or spectacular. Went through some slow stretches but that is weekend golf.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 01/05/2019OK But Not Special
Played White/Blue in 4 1/2 hrs on Saturday afternoon which is not out of line. Red was "closed"? Course was in fair condition. Only bumped the ball once on a fairway due to abnormal ground condition. Felt that it was slightly overpriced compared to other tracks Orlando. (Playing Grand Cypress New tomorrow (Sunday) for a lower price.)
Pine Ridge Country Club
Played On 04/10/2015Good Value
Check in took about 90 seconds and they got me out to the first tee with no delay. The course was really dry and the grass was short so there were a lot of tight lies. The greens were very slow. The front 9 is quite open. I teed off at noon and finished the front 9 at 1:02. I caught up to a 2some on the 10th hole and they offered to let me play thru on the 11th tee. We decided to play the back 9 together and it was a good choice as they were good players and played quickly. The back 9 offers a few more challenges than the front. We finished the back 9 at 2:20 and had some good food and drinks at the bar. Prices were very reasonable. There is a big tree in the middle of the 9th fairway about 75 yards from the green!
Mesquite Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/09/2015Needs Work
The course was in poor condition. Not many players out on Monday morning so we got around in 4 hours. My cart almost ran out of battery power on the last hole. Grass growing in bunker. See attached photo.
Port Royal Golf Course
Played On 01/12/2015Great Course With Spectacular Views
Port Royal is at the top of the golf experiences of my lifetime. Every minute was great. The course has no trees. There are a few wide fairways. It is very hilly – use a cart. There are a few less wide fairways with water and very strategically placed bunkers. There are some narrow fairways with bunkers. You will have uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies. The rough is not long but it swallows golf balls and they are never to be seen again. There are some holes that play uphill and seem very long. It is a good challenge with many spectacular views. We were a foursome and easily played in under 4 hours while sharing a lot of conversation. Everyone at Port Royal starting from bag drop and the pro shop through to the apres round drink at the restaurant gave us that great and personalized treatment that makes you want to come back soon.
Maple Meadows Golf Club - West Eighteen
Played On 09/20/2014OK but unremarkable
OK track but unremarkable. What you see is what you get. Course was is fair shape when we played. On Saturday morning 9am the only breakfast available was coffee and a sweet roll. Also no practice range.
Slammer and Squire Golf Course at World Golf Village
Played On 06/29/2014Recently Aerated Greens
Flat, wide, open fairways with the occasional bunker or water hazard. The challenge would normally be found in the very undulating greens. They had been aerated about 2 weeks ago so were slow and bumpy. Free apples on #1 and #10 tee. Got caught in an early thunderstorm about 1230 and had to hide under the bridge between 15 and 16. There was no warning about the aerated greens on golfnow. I would have been quite unhappy if I had paid full price but could not really complain since I got a hot deal. Also free range balls.
