Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
Played On 05/20/2020Expected it to be harder
Reading the reviews, I expected the course to play harder. The layout is very nice and shows you where to hit it... I can see if you are not driving the ball well how it could jump up and bite you. My son played the tips and I played one tee up, didn’t have to hit driver off the tee but needed to place the ball in the correct positions or you could go from hitting a wedge to a 7-8 iron on the same hole. This course was a great test of golf in that it was all about position. Playing it for the first time and not knowing where to hit it sometimes into the green meant trying to get up and down but usually wasn’t too difficult to do so. I shot 4 over and my son was 1 under.
Cheraw State Park Golf Course
Played On 04/01/2019Best greens I’ve played in a long time
Through the years I have played this course about twice a year and they replaced the greens last year year with tift eagle greens. Y’all, they are as close to perfection as you can get... very firm but perfect. The rest of the course always seems to be in good condition if you are in the fairway. Staff in the clubhouse... awesome, bought a pullover and he cut it 25% and threw in 2 buckets of golf balls. The range was extremely nice and great grass to hit of of..... We live about 7 hours away and we play on very nice courses all over Ga. and nothing else has been close to having greens this good.

Great course layout, I think they have a new superintendent for about a year now... more consistent course conditions. They are putting a lot into the course like cutting trees out around greens so the sunlight can get in to grow the greens better. I wish I lived closer, I would play more often. Only draw back is that it is always busy and SLOW. I would hope that management would take a look at this, it took us 4 3/4 hours to play and we shot 72 and 83.... had to wait on every shot.... needed a course ranger

My son played this course in a tournament last year and I believe that it was in better shape today than it was last year. We played from the black tees around 6800 yards and he shot even par and I shot 77. From the start, the staff was very friendly and courteous. Tee boxes were plush and very well defined. Fairways were cut very well and in great shape... you could take a divot and were like walking on carpet. The Rough was exactly what rough should be...penal in some cases and in some cases not. A ball that was hit terrible would give you a chance to get it back in play which was nice for me! Bunkers were in excellent condition and yes I was in some. The greens were in great condition but I will say that we joined another twosome on the back nine and their local knowledge of the course was interesting as far as how the greens would break. Great course for the price we paid and it was not a hot deal. Probably one of my sons favorites and I really liked it for playability. For the bad part... They need a Ranger for the course for pace of play...We started behind a group on number 1 and it was painful for 5 holes watching what was in front of us... and time consuming.... That was a problem till they really didn't have a choice in letting us through! We ran into it again on hole 8 because the group in front of their twosome would not let them play through... hence we paired up with them on the back 9. Still had to wait some here and there.

Great layout. Kinda different with distances, to be so short and the par 3's playing so long. Overall a great experience with bent grass greens. The course is right in front of you.

Over the years I have played this course when returning to town. Every year I hope to find it in great condition and every year it is always the same... Great layout, one of the prettiest courses that you will ever play, but the greens have never been good, not even close to being good.... Dirt with a little grass and for whatever reason it's always the same! I love the challenge of this layout, bunkers and fairways are fine... It is all about the Greens! They are terrible, and it's been this way for years

I played this course years ago, moved away and came back to town to visit. I personally think they have too much play, evident by the course conditions. Greens were matted down around the hole very much, driving range was nice. Not impressed with course condition
