No Accountability!

This review is in regards to the Golf Course, and specifically the management and customer service for the golf course. The resort at the mountain has 3 9 hole courses with the foxglove course considered the "signature" 9 hole course. The pinecone course is generally considered the 2nd most favorable course with the Thistle course considered the lowermost of the three courses. It was pretty disappointing to schedule a tee time for the pinecone/foxglove courses only to find out 25% of the way through the foxglove course that a shotgun tournament had been scheduled and that I would have to leave. As I explained to the course ranger who was organizing the tournament I had booked that specific combination of courses and there must be be a mistake. Although I had a written confirmation of my tee time indicating I had booked the pinecone/foxglove courses the ranger had no Idea how to help. I returned to the pro shop as the players of the tournament added additional unpleasantness as they wanted me out of their immediate way. Upon arrival into the pro shop I provided the emailed tee time confirmation reflecting that I had indeed booked the pinecone/foxglove courses. The prop shop attendant, Bryce, could only say that there was some sort of mistake with no other relief. When I asked for a refund, as I was not able to play the courses that I had agreed to pay for, Bryce presented a credit for a future 9 holes. A credit is something that is typically given when acts of mother nature (IE bad weather) prohibit someone from finishing the round of golf. A credit is not something that should even be considered when the course has facilitated the mistake. I stated that I had driven nearly 1.5 hours from Portland and would not have done so without being able to play the signature pinecone course. Bryces' failure to do anything to make up for there error was infuriating. Having worked in the hospitality business its a pretty easy avenue to provide a free round of golf and/or a free meal at the resort restaurant when the business is in the wrong in order to make amends with the customer. Unfortunately, at least Bryce does not understand that nuance of proper customer service. As Bryce refused to refund my less than round of golf I have since had to open a dispute with my credit card company in hopes of some financial reprieve. Mistakes happen and nobody expects perfection but how you treat your customers after making mistakes is an integral part of any business and one that the Resort at the Mountain surely should take heed of.

Hello Shane, thank you for reviewing our course, The Resort at the Mountain, in the Oregon area. We are sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with both our staff and the course. We have notified our staff, and we would like to invite you back to our course to secure a tee time. Please reach out to the pro shop and ask for Bryce. Thank you for the feedback, and we hope to see you soon.

Enjoyable Course

Staff was very friendly. 2nd tee time of the morning, got paired with a couple who were local members. I decided to ride in order to play faster. Although the front nine was more enjoyable than the back nine, course has some interesting challenges. The juniper trees caused me alot of issues as I seemed to always land behind one.

Course has chipping/pitching green and separate putting green. Also has a range.

Overall I enjoyed my day and I would play again.

Walked

Had a great day

First time playing at heron lakes. Took advantage of a slow work day and a very favorable golf now hot deal to "sneak out" on a Tuesday afternoon.

The course was ours for the afternoon. Did not see anyone else on it the entire time. Enjoyed the front 9 more than the back 9, but the the weather might have had a part in that as it worsened over the last hour and a half.

The course was easy to walk, as there are not many hilly areas. It reminds me more of a traditional links style course. I enjoyed a good number of the holes on the front 9 and found the view on most to be fairly scenic. The back 9 seemed a tad more difficult, and as the rain kept pouring down things started to get a bit more sloppy.

I was impressed that I did see course maintenance works blowing leafs out of bunkers and the fairway. I had played over the prior weekend where leaves were just everywhere, and it made finding your ball extremely difficult.

They have an area for some short game practice. I warmed up a little bit there, but only until my playing partner arrived. They had a driving range as well.

The main building with pro shop and clubhouse appears adequate, although its not anything spectacular. Generally the people in the pro shop were friendly.

I look forward to trying the other course they have in the near future.

Pretty Sloppy

This course is ranked higher than a number of courses in the top 100 that I have played. I cannot say I came away being more impressed with this course than pretty much all of the others that I had played that were also in the top 100.

Now this is mostly from a general feeling of how the course looked and a general feeling of how they could play in good conditions. Unfortunately when I played the course was pretty difficult to play.

The weather is starting to turn and as such most of the week was preceded with alot of rain. The weather while we were playing was a great. It was actually sunny and dry. Unfortunately most of the ground was over saturated and the rough appeared like it had not been cut in a while. The largest issue that I had during the day, outside of having so many super soft lies, was that finding your ball was a major chore. The course was littered with leaf foliage which obscured even good shots. Hitting the ball into the rough resulted in a 75% chance of never finding it again. The course was cart path only for riders, and Im not sure if that made things slower than they could have been.

I would love to play again in good conditions. I think even with the soft conditions had the foliage not been present and the rough been reasonable length it would have been much more playable. The day starts to get tiring when you start losing ball after ball with decent shots.

Enjoyable Round

Played 18 at talking stick and then played this course in the afternoon. Had lunch in their restaurant before the round and had a pretty good meal with great service.

Overall this was a pretty straightforward course. It was actually more enjoyable than talking stick, although there were not really any memorable holes. I am happy we played it for our second round. Pace of play was slower than I expected, but I guess thats pretty typical at many courses today.

Enjoyable Day

Course is lined with bunkers....bunkers are not all the same..some are fluffy and some are more compacted...my advice try to stay out of them...pace of play was pretty slow...but it was a very nice sunday in October. We played the front 9 twice due to the slowness. Nobody was on the front 9 once we started again. We finished our second attempt at the front 9 in about half the time as we did the first. There are a mix of people walking and riding so I guess thats just how the pace will be on a nice day. I would like to go back and play again as I heard the back 9 is more enjoyable than the front.

eh..ok

The course is more challenging and longer than most of the public courses in the area. I was not really impressed with any 1 hole, as none of them really stood out to me. The front nine had a reasonable pace of play, but the back nine backed up quickly. When I am waiting at a tee box with the group in front of me still waiting to tee off on the same hole, my day becomes less enjoyable by the minute. Im guessing this is due to the large about of tee times this course books, in combination with a lack of rangering (as I dont recall seeing anyone keeping people on pace). I might play again if i were able to get a super cheap rate (sub $20) and the course was wide open. Other wise I will look to somewhere else.

Fun outing

One of the nicer courses in the area. I enjoyed most holes, although I liked the front 9 more than the back. The back nine is more challenging with errant shots being completely lost in some areas. The bunkers were in horrible shape, as they were rock hard. I prefer sandy bunkers but I guess that cant always be the case at that course most likely due to the weather conditions. Overall I liked the course and would play again.

Very Scenic

A nice looking course. Played Pinecone to Foxglove. Pinecone was easier although had a few tricky holes when playing from the blue tees. Foxglove was longer and holes that were shorter were a lot narrower. Overall had a great time playing. Staff was very friendly.

Decent track

New to Oregon and this was the first course I played. Brought my wife along so decided to rent a cart as well for the both of us. Got paired up with another single and a couple. Everyone was friendly and was fun to play with. Pace of play was pretty good till about the 16th hole when we caught up with some groups. Overall course was in decent shape. Greens were pretty quick but not all that tricky. There are only a few holes with water, and I only lost a couple balls (both on the same hole, haha) . Overall I was impressed with this course from a value standpoint and would play it again.

Good Experience

Brand new course that just opened a few days earlier. All the staff were very friendly, although you could tell that everyone was just starting out with new positions. Practice facilities include a water range, two chipping/pitching areas and a putting green. Chipping/pitching areas had no pins/holes which made it less enjoyable. Overall the course had a reasonably nice feel to it, even though its surrounded by a new residential subdivision that has not yet been built but has been cleared. We played from the second to back tees which tested our distance on a number of holes. There is water surrounding most holes, which the sides sloped away from the fairway. I lost more balls than usual but I think that next time around I will have a better feel of where to play my shots. I look forward to playing again!

Good course for higher handicaps

Pelican preserve has 3 nines. I played the ibis and heron as a single. I got matched up with another single and a twosome. Pace of play was slower than I prefer, do to the makeup of our group and skill levels, as well as to the condition of the course being soaked from several days of heavy rains which resulted in a cart path only situation. The Ibis course had several areas of causal water which made many fairway shots difficult to hit. The Heron appeared to drain alot better and did not have as many issues. Truth be told I dont think the Ibis should have been considered playable as there was just too much standing water. It didnt help that we got a few heavy, but quick rains throughout the round either.

The make up of the course seems very forgiving, with not that many opportunities to lose your ball on errant shots. For the most part fairways were pretty wide and had reasonably safe areas for misses. The distances from the white tees were not terribly aggressive and most par 3s were very hittable.

I was able to get a great hot deal price for this 24 hours before the tee time. I am not sure I would pay more to pay again, as the course is about 35-40 minutes from where I live. I had an enjoyable time and would consider playing again in the future.

Doesnt leave much room for error

Raptor Bay is a challenging course for those who are not consistent in having a straight ball. Its a very pretty course that has lots of wildlife surrounding it. Our tee time purchased on golf now was an 8 am tee time and it was labeled as a fast tee time, indicating that due to the hour of the tee time we would get through the course quicker than usual. Unfortunately this premise seems to be based on unreliable reasoning as by the sixth hole we had found ourselves waiting for the group in front of us to still tee off. The ranger surprised me in that he actually worked at improving the pace of play and checking with us multiple times to insure that the pace had indeed quickened. Unfortunately, due to the result of what was indicated as two slow groups ahead of us, we finished about 1.5 hours later than I had originally expected. All and all our group had a fun day, and I would return. The slope ratings of tee boxes seemed to be underrated. I lost 4x as many golf balls as usual as any slightly mishit shot out of the fairway is pretty much lost within large grasses, water or palmetto.

pleasantly suprised

Having played most courses in the area, I had never taken the opportunity to venture out to Valencia Golf and Country Club before.

Overall I was pretty surprised with the enjoyability this course provided. The back nine are almost completely void of homes and it feels more like you are playing in one of the more upscale private golf clubs in town.

Pace of play was pretty good on the day we played. We did not see a ranger the entire day, so I suspect this could easily change based on who is in front of you on any given day.

Practice facilities are adequate. Range balls are not included within the cost of greens fees, which is typical of the few public courses in the area. Chipping and putting areas are adequate for their needs, but aren't anything special.

The course is mostly straightforward and only has a few holes that might allow water to come into play.

Overall my experience was great on the day we played. We got a great hot deal through golf now that was far below the courses advertised rate. For that price I would play again in a heartbeat.

has potential

This course has the potential to be a decent course. Its first issue is its proximity, as its located a pretty good distance from the city of Naples, FL which offers a lot of golf courses within close proximity. The practice facilities are nice with decent chipping, putting and range areas. The course itself was in pretty good shape, it did not appear to have any areas of distress. Greens ran fast, a little bumpy at times, but overall were good.

The greatest issue with this course was the pace of play. I recognize that pace of play can change based on who is actually playing, but the staff for panther run must do their job properly in order to run the course as its intended.

When arriving for our 9:15 tee time we were told that everything was running on time . At 9:00 when we checked back with the starter where we were then told we were running behind 10 minutes because one group, who had already checked in, had screwed around and were not ready at their tee time. This ended up holding us back about 15 minutes after we were supposed to start. Personally in those situations, when you have tee times booked one right after another, if you miss your tee time by significant minutes you should head to the hole on the course you should be at by then (so probably hole #2). Now the rest of the entire tee times for the day are backed up 15 minutes. It didn't make sense to me, but it seems like the starter didn't want to ruffle any feathers in that group and assumes its ok for everyone else to be delayed. Not the biggest issue in the world, but provided indication for what was to come.

The largest issue was so play that was not monitored, recognized or enforced by the ranger. It took us 2.5 hours to play the front nine! Way to slow. The sad part is these are people who you watch and wonder what they are doing. They arent ready to hit the ball. they walk slowly and they seem to have a complete disregard for the rest of the players on the course. This is where rangers need to step up and do their jobs. The ranger at panther run rode his cart by more then i have ever seen any other ranger do, at least 6 or 7 times. I think this was because he just keep riding, never stopping or slowing done to analyze what was going on or telling the slow group two groups in front of us that the three holes in front of them were completely open and that there are three groups on the tee box on the whole behind you.

If the course doesn't care to have its employees do their jobs so that everyone can enjoy their round, why should we care to play there?

WOW!

This place is a must play for any golfer! We played Rolling Oaks on Friday and Pine Barrens twice on Saturday.

Practice facilities are the best I have ever seen...without question. For a practice junkie like me, I spent at least 7 hours over the two days I was at world woods on the practice facilities.

Putting and chipping area do not seem to be as large as advertised (there was surely not 36 pins ), but its larger than anything else I have ever seen and it gave many different opportunities to practice chipping, flopping, and pitching. Trying to make puts from one end to the other was very exhilarating. Both days in the morning it was pretty busy, and on Saturday it got a little difficult to share with some of the other players. In the late morning/ afternoon it opened up more and was a lot more enjoyable.

Range Balls are not included in the greens fees, and they give you 35 balls for what was about six dollars I believe. The range is divided up into 4 quadrants (North, South, East, and West) . On our two days we could only hit off the East range. That was a tad disappointing, as again it didn't seem to be as advertised. Regardless of that, we didn't spend all that much time on the range anyways.

There is a 3 hole practice course that I believe also cost six dollars. It starts off with a par 5, than a par 4, and closes with a par 3. We played it twice on the first day. It was a great way to get warmed up and get the wiggles out. More courses should do this.

The iron range that is near hole 1 for both courses was closed. No explanation was given.

Both courses were very enjoyable and very scenic. There were many times I would look back at the tee boxes from the fairway and focus on taking it all in. It surely is an experience I will always remember.

Our only issues came with a bit of slow play on both days. On the first day we had a twilight time, and started to worry we might not finish before dark as we were stuck behind a group of hackers.

On the second day we started off at noon and immediately got behind a slow group. At 10 the ranger pushed us through onto 11 and we got stuck behind another slow group of old men shortly after that. It seemed like the makeup of most people playing were 60+ so take that into consideration when booking a twilight time. The ranger the second day (and the starter for that fact) were great and very accommodating.

After playing pine barrens in about 4.5 hours the first time around, we played it again finishing right at dark in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. I had never played 36 holes in one day before, and with no one in front of us at the end of the day it was some of the most enjoyable golf I have ever played.

In the end this is one of my favorite golf complexes. Both courses are great and I would recommend both without hesitation. Practice facilities are out of this world and worth the trip alone.

Short and Narrow

Course has no driving range, only a smallish sized putting green. It does have a hitting area you can hit balls into a net with.

This course permits walkers and cart riders. This system might work out ok on days when its not busy, but in February this is one of the busiest times, and it just results in a lot of slow play.

The course itself is not very long, and most of the holes play pretty narrow, especially on the front nine.

Not a fan of this course, and would not play it again unless I wanted to practice my short game. Unfortunately its priced at almost double the cost of executive courses and I don't believe it offers double the value.

Short game practice

Very basic course with basic amenities that offers a very basic experience. Range balls are not included within your round, and the range can only accommodate restricted flight balls. Practice chipping and putting green is not very useful, as its basically on top of a small mound.

On the day we played pace of pay was pretty quick, as we finished in under 3 hours. This wasn't without a few slow downs along the way on the front 9, but we had no issues on the back 9.

The course is fine to play on except for on the edges of a few holes which exasperate the necessity to hit the ball straight. It will be good practice for many who are not used to playing such short holes, and fine tuning clubs that may not get as much work typically. With that said, it might be considered a waste of time if you never hit those clubs in the first place. Either way it can open up new challenges as you attempt to improve your short game.

Staff, mainly bag/cart guys were very very friendly. Although we noticed they sent out a lot of twosomes without combining some tee times, but I guess you can play quick enough to where its not a big deal.

Bottom line, the fees are cheaper than a standard style course, and it works well towards beginners and novices. If you are not one of those, I would suggest going to one of the other very nice courses in the area as they are worth the difference in price.

Visually appealing

Decent practice area including range, chipping and putting areas. Course was in pretty good shape and has lots of appealing visuals for southern Florida. Greens are tricky as they feature lots of undulations. Pace of play was great, and we really didn't have an issue with slow play in front of us until late in the round.

Staff was friendly, both inside the pro shop as well as the starter. Would play again if the price is right.
