Fun course to have a good time

Woodruff is a fun little Joliet Park district course that is playable, walkable and a ton of fun.

At less than 6000 yards, this is a very short course. There are no par 5's, and a few of the par 4's on the front are very gettable, even by amateur standards. The front can be a little boring, however the back has some very scenic holes. The course is usually in decent shape.

If you're able to find a deal on a tee time, this is a great track. There are better options in the area on a full price weekend morning, but if you're free for a weeknight twilight round and want to get out and walk, Woodruff is a great place to do it.

We are sorry you did not feel we deserved a higher rating. Normally most find our course very challenging especially among players in your handicap range. The mix of birdie opportunities are heavily outweighed by the troublesome par 3's. The short par 4's for many present a more difficult birdie opportunity than many par 5's. There are many opportunities to make bogey or worse. You may have avoided trouble during your round but we definitely invite you back to see if you can play the course to your handicap. We may even be able to set you up with one of our staff members to accompany you. It is especially troublesome that our staff friendliness was not rated higher. I will personally research the lineup on your date of play to discuss the importance of customer service. Thank you for visiting us.

Semi-public Course, but Private Experience

If you're a muni golfer who wants a taste of private country club life, The Grand Golf Club at the Fairmont Del Mar is a perfect choice. This is a private course that allows guests of the hotel to play as well, giving you a taste of the amenities.

The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. Our forecaddy helped knew the course well and his expertise helped. The fresh fruit at the Starter's table was an awesome addition,

A couple things to note here:

If you're a resort guest, you aren't getting an early tee time. Those are reserved for members -- if you're a resort guest, usually the earliest they'll let you out is 9am.

Get there early, they've got a great driving range!

Beautiful vacation golf

Talking Stick is everything you want from a vacation course -- friendly staff, beautiful surrounds and outstanding upkeep. Core and Crenshaw do a great job getting golfers of all skill levels involved -- the angles allow for options and fun whether you're a 20 handicap or a seasoned gamer. You're on vacation and you want to have fun and be taken care of -- Talking Stick fits the bill.

I played in May, which is generally considered their off-season due to heat. Played early to avoid heat and congestion on the course -- flew through in under 3 hours. Absolute value steal for what they charge in early May -- it's a $200 course for $100.
