Salado Del Rio at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
Played On 10/28/2018Narrow Fairways
The fairways still had a lot of moisture, making it hard to get better distance. The fairways are somewhat narrow making it more challenging but adds to the beauty of the course. The greens were very good and somewhat fast.
Weekend play made it slower than normal and the lack of course marshals did not help.
For the price either of these courses are a great deal.
Frio Valley Ranch
Played On 11/26/2017Hill Country Golf
one of the best hill country golf courses in Texas. The length of the course and the layout make this a challenging venue. The greens were fast and the breaks were deceiving. The only bad thing about the course is how far it is from San Antonio. A guide to new players with recommendations to what tees should be played based on their handicap would be helpful.
Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course
Played On 10/02/2017Hill Country Golf
The staff and local members have given their all to improve this course, it gets better every day. It's a fun hill country golf course that provides challenges yet makes it enjoyable for all levels. The scenery and wildlife make for a relaxing day on the golf course.
Pleasanton Country Club
Played On 09/06/2017Hidden Fun Course
A great course with beautiful oak trees that come into play. Greens are in need of repair on some of the holes but will come back with some proper care.
Southland Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/17/2017Soggy
The course was in great shape with challenging rough changes in elevations. The greens were slow because of the recent rains and the fairways would not cooperate in letting the ball run for the same reason. Had a great time and would highly recommend it to others. Just an FYI, they don't sell beer at this course.
Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2017Great Views
The course offers several great views of Stone Mountain. The course is fun but challenging with major changes in elevations, some blind shots and a lot of hills. The greens were in good shape and the rough was manageable. The beautiful tall trees prevent any wind so if you go in the summer get ready to sweat. You also have to pay a park entrance fee of $15.00 which is not included in the golf game. Very friendly and helpful staff .
Pleasanton Country Club
Played On 02/11/2017Trees Are the Challenge
The greens on this course have truly improved. A straight and long shot tends to be denied by the beautiful old oak trees. A very fun course that I will play again and recommend to others.
Quail Creek Country Club
Played On 12/22/2014Turtle Back Course
For a fall season the fairways were surprisingly well taken care off. The greens were fast and true but you have to watch out for the false fronts. The greens are small and turtle back shaped which makes approach shots difficult. Because they were fast, approach shots that are not high lofted will not stay on.
Northern Hills Golf Club
Played On 11/24/2014This is a good local course
Recent rains have diminished the condition of the fairways but the greens were in excellent shape and very fast.
Lake Travis Country Club
Played On 07/26/2014Hill Country Secret
This course is nestled in the hill country west of Austin with great lake views and wildlife. It is not as crowded as other courses which allows you to really enjoy the course and its scenery. The fairways are in good shape and the greens will test your skills with their undulations.
The staff and course marshals are friendly and ready to help with playing tips.
Point Venture Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2014Great Nine Hole Course with various tee boxes
This little nine hole course is in very good shape and offers a number of challenges. The elevated greens and narrow fairways forces you to manage your game. You have to keep it straight or risk jail among the trees.
Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2014Texas Hill Country Golf
The design of this course adds to the challenge. The addition of numerous sand bunkers and high grass areas are strategically placed to protect the greens. The slope on some of the fairways is brutal but fun. The course is very well maintained and a in good shape.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 05/07/2014This is a fun course
Had a chance to play and this course offered a very good price on short notice. Once the irrigation system is complete this course will be in great shape. The water hazards and bunkers make the course a very good challenge.
Alsatian Golf Club
Played On 02/28/2014Winter Golf
For the time year, the course and greens were in good condition. As spring arrives the fairways should improve.
The lack of a course marshal kept pace of play slow as other players playing two and three balls each failed to allow those of us playing quicker to play through.
Frio Valley Ranch
Played On 10/10/2013A true hill country course with a taste of links rough.
Although a bit of a drive from San Antonio, the scenery, staff and conditions of the course made it worth the drive. Not only are the staff friendly and courteous but so were the members I encountered. For a hill country course the fairways and greens are very well maintained and the bunkers are very challenging.
This course is a lot of fun.
Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort
Played On 8/05/2013the course has great features but is not well maintained.
Lack of water to the course has left a beautiful venue in a less than desirable condition. At this time I cannot recommend it to my friends.
Lakeside Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2013This course has very challenging greens.
Typical hill country course. Requires some care in the fairways and is very dependent on rain. The greens are very challenging turtle backs and the overall course can be considered the Merion of Texas. The course has beautiful hill country views with abundant wildlife (deer) and is priced as a great value.
Treasure Hills Golf Club
Played On 05/07/2013This course is challenging with strategic bunkers and water on several holes.
The recent drought that has struck South Texas has had a negative effect on this course. Fairways are dry and hard which allows for longer drives but unfair to players trying to manage the course. The greens were recently aerated which made them more difficult to read.
Flying L Guest Ranch Golf Course
Played On 4/20/2013Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, this course is senic and fun to play.
The fairways and Tee boxes are in very good shape for as little rain as they have had. Three of the greens need some work but as spring moves in and the rains provide some natural water, they are sure to get better.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 12/08/2012Great course for the price and stil challenging
The course offers wide fairways that entice you to go for it but be carefull, the bunkers and links type rough can get you in trouble.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
