Devil's Ridge

I have to say, the first time I played here, I was not a big fan. My third time playing has softened me up a bit. I appreciate the course much more, know the shot placement better, and really enjoy many of the holes and general layout. Some of the views are very scenic, the course offers playability for all levels, and rates are a great value for the level of the course. Getting around from hole to hole can be a little confusing the first couple of times, so make sure you pay close attention to the signage. Other than that, Devil's Ridge will offer you a great round at a very good rate, and some very memorable scenic views along the way.

Greystone Golf

Top Notch and a real players course. Staff was super cool and the experience was a memorable one. Conditions were excellent from tees to greens, and the course looked awesome on a beautiful August afternoon. Accuracy is very critical on most holes, so if you tend to spray the ball off the tee, bag your driver and play some good course management. The yardages play really fair, so playing a shorter club won't hurt you. I would definitely recommend playing this course, and I'm looking forward to playing many more times.

Mulberry Hills

Mulberry Hills is obviously an older course, built in the 60's, and having the characteristics of courses built then. The conditions are good, and there are some nice, challenging hole layouts. As many others have commented, nearly all of the greens are crowned, and hitting approach shots without loft or spin will almost guarantee a longer putt or putting from the fringe. Even more than being rather difficult to read and putt, the greens are rather boring and lacking character; you end up looking at the same approach and same putts nearly every hole. Other than that, it's a good value for the $$$. It's in a rather remote location, so unless you live north of Rochester/Auburn Hills, be prepared for some dirt road driving.

Good Track/Good Challenge

I had this course on my radar as one to try. Glad I did; nice layout, good conditions, fairly challenging, and all the rates are very reasonable. It is in a very remote area and a long drive for me. If you plan to play it and are not familiar with the area, make sure you have GPS. I might try it again in the fall, as it looks like it would be a nice one with the changing colors.

Tarnished Copper

I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers regarding the Golf Digest ratings from years ago. I wished I had played it 10-12 years ago, as it's obvious this course has seen better days. Truly a shame because there are some phenomenal hole layouts and scenic views all over the course. Greens were in good condition but out of all the fairways were mostly a combination of clover, crabgrass and hardpan making every fairway shot a tight lie. I was actually glad to be in the rough a few times, much easier to get under the ball and generate some spin. From the unmaintained tee boxes to the tattered and faded flags, there is almost an eerie feeling as you play the course, especially on the Marsh. I probably won't play again but I do recommend playing once - some of the views and hole layouts are worth the price of a Golf Now admission.

Top Notch Course

First time playing, and had a fantastic afternoon! Teamed with a greàt twosome - Dwayne and Jesse, thanks for a really fun round. A single joined us later - Ryan, it was great watching you just crush the ball off the tee.
Excellent conditions, super nice staff all around, and just a great facility in every regard. Pace was slow due to a group of 4 20+ hdcp playing from the blue tees, so a little Ranger presence may have moved them along. Still a great day at a top notch course.
Don't be discouraged playing the course once. The holes are challenging and play pretty long with lots of hazzards, but knowing where to hit will save you some strokes. Greens are tough but putt true- you just have to read them. Study and follow the course map on the scorecard. Also drive your cart up to see what you may be facing over that hill. Playing smart will also save you shots, and a lot of balls.
Definitely recommend and look forward to playing again. Super facility!!!

Brentwood

So I book a 9:20am Golf Now, as a single, figuring I'd team up with a group. I get there early and the pro shop guy sends me out as a single, telling me there is a group that just teed off, give them about 10 minutes, and I'm good to go. Great I think, maybe hit a few extra shots and get some practice in. What he fails to tell me is that I'm following a ladies senior league, three groups that I have little chance of playing through. I could have hit every ball in my bag and I still would have caught them on the next hole. 3 hours later! (as a single)I get to the "cover shot" 9th hole and I see three ladies fishing for balls in the lake that surrounds the green. I skip to 10 because there is a twosome behind me that didn't seem to want to join up. I finish up in time for dinner. Any good starter/pro shop guy worth his weight in jar balls is NOT going to send a single out behind a senior ladies league. Hello! why don't you start on 10. Or at least, pack your patience pal, and I hope you brought some rations. You're in for a long afternoon.
Nice course, good conditions, plenty of other courses closer to home.

A New Favorite

First time playing Boulder Pointe - played Bluffs to Peaks - and I'm just sorry I haven't played the courses sooner! Fantastic conditions! Shot a mid 70's round primarily because the greens were in such exceptional condition. 29 putts and not one 3 putt all day. Greens were medium- fast and the ball goes where you think it will go - no tricks. Tee boxes and fairways also in great shape for mid-summer. Some really nice hole layouts on both 9s, challenging but really fair if you keep the ball in play. Also enjoyed the tunnel trip under M24 from hole 1-2 on the Bluffs:). I was able to get a ridiculously low last-minute rate on GN, but the normal weekend rate is reasonable based on other courses of that caliber in the area. Definitely one of my favorites now, I will be back and looking forward to playing the Dunes. I'm also thinking the courses will be golf postcards in the fall!
The only drawback I could say is the lack of ball washers, or at least a few buckets of water throughout where you can wet a towel. Other than that, an excellent facility all around.

CC one of the best

Cherry Creek continues to be one of the best courses in SE Michigan, along with it's two sister courses Pine Trace and Shepard's Hollow. I played on the July 4th Sunday and shot a really good round on some really good course conditions. The pace was also good for a holiday weekend with enough Ranger presence to keep things moving. An enjoyable afternoon, I had the pleasure of playing with a nice twosome. The entire facility is very impressive from the moment you enter the gate and make the drive to the clubhouse. The rest is as close to a private club experience you'll find anywhere without the $$$ fees. Mike Bylen definitely knows how to create a next level experience for the public course golfer. It's also nice to see the greens coming back after two horrible winters, but equally disappointing to see all the unrepaired ball marks left from inconsiderate golfers. C'mon golfers, if you can't respect the facility, stay off the course. One tip: play the course a few times as many of the holes are about placement and course management. The greens are tough but putt true. The four tee boxes give all level of golfer an equally good chance of scoring well and having an enjoyable round - the mark of a great golf course.

Fall Golf

Fall golf can be a challenge and this day was no exception...leaves, soggy conditions, etc. Shenendoah is a very nice facility overall - it's obvious it was once a private club and that feeling is present everywhere. Course layout not that impressive but there are some interesting and challenging holes and the course was in relatively good shape for Oct. - from tees to greens. The 2 nines are definitely contrasting - the front open and fairly straightaway and the back much tighter with a number of blind shot doglegs- you almost feel like you're playing 2 different courses. My biggest complaint is a lack of direction or course mapping anywhere, unless I was missing something. Nothing on the scorecard or cart or tee signs - I was actually using Google maps on my phone to look at each hole. Tee signs are very dark and difficult to read unless you are right on top of it, and not much direction to the next hole that isn' t obvious by following the cart path. 250 - 100 yd markers are flat markers in the fairway and lines on the cart path - nothing visible from the tee and adding to the guesswork. I'm probably being picky, so overall, a very nice course and great value on Golf Now.

A must play!

Don't let the yardages fool you, this is a challenging little course. Some really good hole layouts with some really nice scenery especially on the back 9 around the lake. For October, it was in way better shape than many of the "acclaimed" courses in the area. Tee boxes looked like they were really manicured...easy to find a level, well cut spot on the tees. Greens were also good...ball marks were present but that's just inconsiderate golfers you find everywhere. This is really a great track, whether you pay their full really reasonable fees or you get a "hot deal".
My tip: mix up your tee off - I play blue on the shorter holes and white on the more average distances...you will definitely get to use most of your clubs.

As for the previous reviewer, most higher priced courses don't even put tees in your cart, and if it's busy, the chance of a scorecard and sharp pencil attached is slim. Think about joining a country club at 25-30k...they'll give you all the tees and scorecards you want.

The Myth

Played the course about the same time last year. Better shape this time but still needs TLC. Tee boxes are horrible...weeds, mud, uneven. Every ball cleaner smelled like rotten eggs. Some interesting holes but some are rather gimmicky. Not terribly long but you do get the opportunity to play most of your clubs. I agree with a few of the previous reviewers...the yardages on some of the holes don't sync up with map, card, signs. The greens are the most challenging aspect of the course (aside from bouncing up and down riding the "charming" wooden cart paths), good condition but the pin placements the day I played were impossible. I'm a good putter but was punished numerous times for good approach shots with 2 and 3 putts...one 4 because of pin placements and putts barely tapped rolling off the green. The GC must have thought it was Sunday at Augusta. The mark of a good course is playability for all handicaps, challenging but fair if you hit good shots and putt better than a beginner, and making you think, not scratching your head. The Myth has potential but hardly "nothing short of spectacular" as their webpage claims. I would play again and recommend but only at a "real Hot Deal" price.
