St. Mellion Golf Club - Nicklaus Course
Played On 12/05/2023A wet St Mellion
Although the course had some areas that were soaking wet, the areas that counted, tees, greens, fairways were excellent, what a test of golf, amazing course layout, will definitely be back to try the summer version, can’t be many better £40 green fees out there and well done to St Mellion for keeping it affordable
Messingham Grange - Championship Course
Played On 11/18/2022November golf
After a week of really heavy rainfall our own course is rather muddy so we got a hot deal at Messigham Grange. £10.99 !
The 8th fairway was quite wet and there is some chafer / crow damage on 10 & 11 fairways, that’s the bad bit,,,,,, the rest of the course was just brilliant, all the greens were in play, couple of mats on 2 of the par 3’s rest of tees excellent, fairways brilliant, bunkers all raked and sand consistent, lovely surroundings with golden leaves on the trees,,,,,,, honestly £11 !!!!! You would be hard pressed to find better value anywhere, oh nice pint of Guinness to finish, well done Messingham.
Colmworth & North Beds Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2022Breezy day in Bedfordshire
Booked Colmworth an hour before we played, all a bit last minute,, what a pleasant surprise for £20 you couldn’t ask for more, fairways well grassed and cut, fringes and greens in good nick, just the teeing areas a bit weak, bunkers were having some fresh sand in and a few were GUR. Some fairways were a bit up and down but all fairways separated by trees, it is just a nice course,
Filey Golf Club - Main Course
Played On 09/20/2021Fabulous Filey
Wow, the condition of the course was just amazing, tees, fairways, bunkers superb, the fringes and greens are on another level, just go and experience it yourself
Old Thorns Manor Hotel, Golf & Country Estate
Played On 10/29/2020Old Thorns, bring your wellies
Had the pleasure to play this course on a windy drizzly Thursday afternoon in Late October, on the first tee looking down the fairway all we could see was a very muddy fairway waiting perfectly at driving distance, the course was soaked all the way round & I do mean soaked, it nearly sucked one of my shoes of on one fairway ! However it remained playable and the greens and bunkers were great, the scenery and general setting of the course is a joy, just beautiful with a great mix of holes, in truth it shouldn’t have been open but it somehow did not detract from our enjoyment, we had a great game on a really beautiful golf course, you might want to wait until summer
Ashby Decoy Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2020Ashby decoy
Played here on Monday afternoon, blackboard In car park on arrival explaining 1st & 18th closed ! We pitched up early so we could have a bite before playing, sorry no food available on Monday’s, chefs day off. The staff were very apologetic. A bag of crisps and coffee later we went to pro shop to sign In, the pro was very helpful in explaining how to play 18 even though two holes were closed, Ashby have 2 full length practice holes that were brought into play, easy, now the course, overall in pretty good order, autumn approaching they was a lot of worm / crane fly casts everywhere, which you would find anywhere, a tight tree lined course, which did feel a bit up and down at times, the amount of trees did a good job in separating the fairways, greens were consistent if a bit slow, bunkers consistent and fairly placed around the course, tees were good, overall the course was good challenge of your capabilities, some really tight shots off the tee, bet it looks great in the summer.
Normanby Hall Country Park
Played On 09/21/2020Normandby, a nice suprise
Normandby Hall, tucked away on the edge of a country park, several miles from anything really. Great welcome from the Pro, one way system in operation, straight on the tee, not held up once (12.28) nothing to memorable about the course just a really fair test of golf, in a lovely setting and in very good condition, fairways quite lush and greens in good order, As with many courses the bunkers let it down, not much sand and they were compacted, although they were all the same. the course is having some drainage work done so I wonder if it may get a bit soggy come the winter. Definately worth the £18.50 we paid today.
Rufford Park Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/08/2017great value golf
Played Rufford for the second time today, course was better than I remembered, fairways and greens in great condition, the holes all vary greatly in elevation, direction and level of difficulty, not a bad hole amongst them, some lovely views to take in, you will be hard pressed to find better value, quality golf anywhere.
Elton Furze Golf Club
Played On 10/01/2017Elton Furze
Played here on a breezy sunday afternoon, course was in great condition, greens were good even though some maintenance had been completed recently, warm welcome in the pro shop, which was still open when we finished at 5pm, you can open your chest up and give it a bash here, although the last few holes narrow down a bit and the last few are lso open to the elements a bit more, making it a difficult finish, overall a very good mix of holes, very nice setting, we will definitely go back
Norwood Park Golf Centre - Westwood Course
Played On 03/19/2017Norwood on a very windy day
Been wanting to try this course for a while, once you have got past the fairly ordinary first three holes the course improves a great deal, it ofers a good variety of holes with directional changes, doglegs, water and trees all offering different challenges, while the fairways were far from perfect they were pretty good for March and the greens are actually the best I have played in a while, really good.
The pro shop was also the best I have visited in a long time, would compare with the offerings of an american golf, a great range. we even visited the small clubhouse which had a simple but good menu, recommend the fruit cake.
Pwllheli Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2016one for the list
Played Pwllheli on a glorious saterday afternoon in October, the welcome in the Pro shop was superb, even asked if we would like the chef to stay if we wanted to have some food after the game,,,, Saturday afternoon nobody in front of us and nobody behind us, had time to make the most of our visit, front seven is parkland, nice tree lined fairways but the holes were a bit up and down, with fairly wet fairways considering there had been no rain for days. from 8 to finish its a cross between heath and links, a bit different actually, a nice selection of holes, the course did not feel overly difficult but the weather/wind was totally benign, I would imagine a totally different obstacle in inclement conditions, overall condition of the course was good, would definately return and recommend to friends. nice one !!
Nefyn Golf Club - Yellow/Blue Course
Played On 10/21/2016needs to be done
Played Nefyn on a glorious friday in October, early tee 9am, no wind, the opening five holes just superb, 6 - 9 come away from coastal path but nice holes, then from 10 onwards the fun starts daring carries, blind shots, 3 par 3's, 17 must be one of the toughest holes anywhere, almost unfair ! 18 is a good chance to finish with a birdie though, glad we teed off early as the amount of general public just milling about was growing all the time we were on the course, I cant believe it would be much fun playing pm in the peak of the summer, there must be people everywhere, It is a must play because it is fairly unique, course was in great nick, we would definately return and recommend to friends, good fun, must be incredibly difficult on a very windy day, no, maybe just stay in bed !!
Royal St. David's Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2016Royal St Davids
ok we were lucky with the weather, short sleeves in october, in Wales !! The condition of everything on and around the course was excellent, nothing pretentious about this club, I would reccommend it to anyone, a proper championship golf course for under £40, just brlliant. holes 15 & 16 are gems
Lingdale Golf Club
Played On 09/26/2016secret gem
Had the pleasure of playing Lingdale today, what a gem, one of the prettiest courses I have played in some time, great mixture of holes, including variation in length, degree of difficulty and change of direction, fairways and greens were excellent, difficukt to comment on bunkers, I had a day without visiting the beach and it was raining quite heavily, which always compacts the sand. doglegs, uphill downhill this course has something for everyone, thoroughly recommended.
