Great, interesting layout

One of my top two courses in the SF Bay Area (not including Monterey). Lots of variety in the holes. I almost always have to use at least 12 if not 13 or 14 clubs in my bag - one of the top ways I judge a course. Also that the last few college tournament have only seen about a quarter of the field finish under par tells you it's challenging - but fair

When they let the native grass grow high (during college season), this course can be a beast off the tee. Even without, the trees provide plenty of challenge. New bunkers are a big improvement, especially around the greens.

Great course but Four Seasons prices

I love Hualalai but at $290 it's overpriced. If you're going to shell out and play, try to tee off around 10am. Trade winds don't start until about then and before that it's pretty hot & sticky.

Pace of play is pretty awesome. Played as a twosome in about 3h15m-3h30m. Played as a single first off the tee on the day I was flying home and finished in just over 2h!

Not worth it - not even close

Not much better than a local muni. Pretty awful pace of play and no sign of a marshal anywhwere. Course is in mediocre condition, not very imaginative layout, and not terribly challenging.

Will not play again unless the green fees are under $100.

Awful awful greens

Last round of a week long golf vacation. Couldn't have ended on a more sour note. Played here because wife has ClubCorp membership. Nobody told us greens were so bad and had recently been aerated & sanded when we made our time some were more sand than grass. It's high 80s/like 90s and they have no towels.

When we made our time I double checked that they had showers because we were flung home that evening. When we finished our round we were told they were for club members only. If I hadn't escalated to the club manager who had to be reached by phone we'd have made our plane pretty stinky

If this is what ClubCorp is like - no thanks she'll ask for her money back

Greens in awful shape

Course should be closed until greens are in adequate shape. We were told that holes 1-6 greens weren't in good shape. None of the rest were much better. Pace of play (over 5h) was just as bad.

Overpriced, esp non-resident

Plenty of courses in better condition for the money in the Bay Area. It's a decent enough course, but $60+ on the weekend for a non-resident is ridiculous. Los Lagos, Tony Lema, and others are the same price or better and put Poplar Creek to shame.

Some minor investment could really improve things

The layout is really nice but two big issues made the round much less than enjoyable:
- Tee boxes. There isn't a flat lie anywhere. This is a simple and relatively inexpensive fix, but it is BADLY needed.
- Bunkers. There is very little sand. They need to have 6-9 inches dug out and filled with sand. Again, a simple and relatively inexpensive fix, but BADLY needed
