Mountain Harbour Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2021Very fun day
Weather was perfect. The entire staff provided 5* professional courteous service. The course was in fairly good condition, it had rained very hard the evening before so numerous wet areas and slower than avg greens. I’m sure when the course dries out and they are able to cut greens and fairways it will be much better, that being said the course was still in very good shape and a lot of fun to play. The starter/ ranger was a hoot and the cart attendant was awesome. Great experience, great price. Go play it.
The Ledges Golf Club
Played On 03/28/2019Scenic Back 9
Very mundane front 9 with non receptive greens but the views on the back 9 were well worth the price of admission. Very friendly and informative staff. Would play again
DeBary Golf & Country Club
Played On 01/13/2018Great Course Scalera not so much
First off kudos to pro shop, cart, halfway house and beverage cart staff, outstanding. Course conditions would have been 5 star if not for the firm greens, to be expected for fairly new greens I suppose. Problem was the pace of play was pathetic and never saw a course ranger. Also almost had a fight with a belligerent member two groups behind us who decided that he would come charging up at us demanding we speed up. Only issue was there was no where to go. Tried to explain it to him but he was convinced us non members were the problem. After the round when I inquired who that was being belligerent several staff members had the same reaction, oh that had to be Joe, he's known for that around here. If he is known for that around here why does management put up with it. Not a good light to shine for potential future members.
Greenwood Country Club
Played On 10/22/2017Outstanding Experience
About once a month or so we meet friends from Greenville in the Greenwood area for golf as it is about halfway between us. Have played Greenwood CC on numerous occasions over the years and have always received first class treatment. This particular trip I must say the course conditions were FANTASTIC, best I've seen them in a long long time. And along with the great customer service we received beginning with the young lady in the pro shop to the course ranger to the young man in the halfway house the entire experience was 5 stars. Great job to all, can't wait to return. Be aware though, thought is was odd they would not accept cash at the halfway house so be sure to have a cc if you want a delicious chicken salad sandwich and cold beer at the turn.
The Members Club at Woodcreek
Played On 07/04/2017Outstanding Experience
This place is nothing short of fantastic. From the friendly professional staff to the courtesy of its members this was one the best golfing experiences my wife and I have enjoyed in quite some time. Was easy to see the pride in this facility. Thru the years I've discovered you either love or hate Fabio designs. This one was outstanding. Every hole seemed more impressive and scenic than the previous one. Never a dull moment. Great layout, great people, great practice facility. It doesn't get much better than this. Would join here in a heartbeat if I lived in the Columbia area. Kudos memebers club. Going to have to come back and play the Wilde wood facility soon!
Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2017Great Donald Ross Layout, however
What a beautiful old style classic Donald Ross layout, a must see for DR fans, however the conditions of the course do not warrant the regular prices. The 3 holes around the clubhouse are clearly much more manicured than the other 15 holes on the course, the old draw the customer in shell trick. Fortunate to have booked a fair 55 rate. Anything over that stay away. Wasn't awful conditions, just wasn't what 1 would expect for 80 to 100 course.
Talamore Golf Resort
Played On 05/26/2017Love the Changes, same unfriendly proshop
Haven't played at Talamore in a couple of years, since before the renovations. Absolutely LOVE the new greens and bunkers. Problem with new greens, though no fault of the course, is that they are so firm they are impossible to hold a shot making for a miserable playing experience. In time this course is going to be OUTSTANDING when greens soften a bit but love the changes, well done. The bag drop / starter gets 5 stars for friendliness and customer service, the tall grump in the proshop I would give a zero if possible. Was checking out course for possible site of our 20 person golf group annual trip next year but would not want to deal with this guy's attitude for 4 days. Rude, unassuming and definitely could care less about customer service. Grill and beverage cart personnel were both GREAT, 5 stars. Once the greens work in and soften a bit, this course will be a must play, but right now you may want to practice chipping on to the parking lot to prepare for these greens.
Bartram Trail Golf Club
Played On 02/20/2017Bartam never disappoints
Haven't played here in quite some time but like every other time we made the trek over to play here, seems this course never disappoints. Was surprised at the number of bunkers they have replaced with grass around the course making it even more easier to play, but that said the conditions here never disappoint, greens were excellent and fairways in very good shape in spite of all the recent rains. And compared to the reoccurring disappointing customer service of that course across from downtown by the River, the staff here at Bartram is nothing less than first class, and truly seem appreciative and customer friendly, so it certainly makes the long trek over to play worthwhile.
Timberlake Country Club
Played On 01/28/2017Timberlake tough but FAIR
Played on a fairly cool and windy day. Had the course practically to ourselves. GREAT layout, nothing easy about the course but nothing unfair. Course was challenging and in very good condition for winter, the traps had very little sand but in the golf courses defense there has been a lot of recent heavy rain. Staff was amazing and friendly, will definitely return anytime we are in the area. Fantastic layout.
Greenwood Country Club
Played On 11/12/2016Kudos Greenwood CC
In light of the oppressing drought golf courses in the region have had to deal with the past few months, the course was in amazing shape. I've been to Greenwood cc 4 or 5 times over the past 2 years and it was in the best shape I can remember seeing it in. And As always the staff was professional, courteous and very accommodating. Great job to all.
Savannah Country Club
Played On 07/29/2015Great Course - Lot of Distractions
First impressions: Cart guy/starter was extremely nice and friendly. Food shack lady also very friendly and food very good. They both get 5 stars. Gentleman (Australian accent perhaps) behind the pro shop counter just the opposite. Seemed a bit testy and cold, no smiles, no welcome to the club, all business and minimal customer service skills. Seemed somewhat agitated. Give him 2 stars.
About the course: Driving range off mats with worn out balls so 4 stars for condition of overall facility. Course itself was muddy in spots but overall very, very nice. Don't agree with reviewers that its the best in Savannah but certainly in the top 5. Nice layout and excellent greens.Played on a Wednesday afternoon and evidently this day is prime day to get the course ready for the weekend, maintenance vehicles going everywhere with very little courtesy given to the players on the course. I understand the golf business is a tough business right now and time is money but if you see a player about to hit or putt at least pretend to have the courtesy to pause before darting across the fairway behind or in front of him or her. This happened on a number of occasions. On the flip side it was refreshing to see a golf course receive that much TLC and it showed, very nice tract with challenging greens.
Overall loved it and would return, just not on a Wednesday and hopefully when the pro shop guy is having a better day.
The River Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2014Strange rules regarding walkers
Weather was extremely cold and windy this particular day so I and two other golfers were looking for a place not to difficult to walk. Have played the River Club many times in the past but never walked it. Always a great course in great condition, but also always seems to be at least one golf staff or restaurant staff member who exhibits a rude and unfriendly attitude. Get the feeling employees do not feel valued by management.
In any event I and two partners brought our own high dollar push carts and shelled out $40 plus to walk. As we headed to first tee a golf staff member approached and said the club prohibits use of personal push carts and told us we had to use the most hideous cheap looking 2-wheel plastic pull carts you have ever seen. I had to ask what the rationale was and was smugly told the golf director made this rule 4 years ago and that's the way it is...use their cheap plastic carts or carry your bag. We took option 3...refund of our money and went to Forest Hills where they treated us like they were glad to have our business, gladly took our money and allowed us to use our 3 wheel push carts. I will complement the young man who refunded our money as he was gracious and courteous, even though he had no answer for why someone would make you put a beautiful 3 wheel push cart away and use a hideously cheap looking 2 wheel cart that is tough to pull around for us old folks...
While I have nothing but praise for the condition and playability of the River Club it is abundantly clear that the club continues to present the take it or leave it attitude that the locals often talk about in discussions of this golf facility and why they don't play there more. Shame. Could be a great place...
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 7/19/2013Typical Jack Nicklaus layout - left to right or you are out of luck
I was hoping this was not your typical Nicklaus layout but was quickly disappointed... If you are a fader or slicer of the ball this course is custom made for you. Someone with a draw and talent as limited as mine...try to find a Gary Player designed course...
That being said, the staff was EXCELLENT, professional and courteous. The facility and course were in excellent shape. With my draw game I will never be an advocate of a Nicklaus design and I personally will never spend another dollar on a Jack Nickalus layout as this course confirms the bias you will see in his design methodology, but that being said, the facility and personnel were outstanding and if you don't mind a huge tree 75 years in front of you gaurding the right side on practically every par 4 and 5 tee shot, then this is your place!
A bit snobbish if you ask me. Hideously cheap? Really? I've used their pull carts many times, they roll just fine, are light and easy to handle, and can be controlled with one finger. Not hideous at all. Really.
