Verrado Golf Club - Founders Course
Played On 08/28/2018GREAT COURSE
I AM 77 YEARS OF AGE AND ME AND MY WIFE PLAY A LOT OF GOLF IN AND AROUND THE PHOENIX AREA. WE PLAY MAINLY IN THE SUMMER. THE RATES ARE LOW AND WE CAN AFFORD TO PLAY MANY COURSES.
ON 08/28/2018 I SAW A TEE TIME FOR VERRANDO FOUNDERS CLUB ON GOLF NOW AT 11 27 A.M FOR $11.00 PLUS FEE AND TAX. BOTH OF US FOR AROUND $33.00 I JUMPED ON IT SINCE I HAD NEVER PLAYED IT BEFORE. WE LIVE IN TEMPE AND IT WAS A LONG DRIVE BUT WELL WORTH IT ABOUT 1 HR EACH WAY.
WE ARRIVED AT ABOUT 11 10 AND THE BAG BOY WAS RIGHT THERE TO TAKE THE BAGS FROM THE CAR AND PLACE THEM ON A CART. MY WIFE HAD WENT TO CHECK IN AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK WE WERE READY TO GO. WE GOT DIRECTIONS TO THE FIRST TEE AND AWAY WE WENT . WE COMPLETED OUR PLAY AT 2 30 . WE NEVER SAW ANYONE ELSE ON THE COURSE. WE PLAYED AT OUR LIESURE AND FOUND THE COURSE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST WE HAD EVER PLAYED IN OUR 50 YEARS OF GOLFING.
I WOULD COMPARE THE COURSE TO THE BAD LANDS GOLF COURSE IN LAS VEGAS WHICH IS NO LONGER IN PLAY. ALTHOUGH THIS COURSE IS IN BETTER CONDITION THAN THE BADLANDS THE LAY OF THE COURSE IS SIMILAR.
THE OTHER HIGH END GOLF COURSES WE HAVE PLAYED THE BOULDERS, DINOSAUR,TPC DO NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO THE VERRADO FOUNDERS CLUB. I SURE HOPE WE FIND IT AVAILABLE AGAIN FOR $11.00. I WOULD ENJOY PLAYING IT AGAIN.
OH I DID SHOOT A 81 I COULD NOT GET THAT PUTT TO FALL.

Played On 04/26/2018Course is listed as one of the longest in Az.
They do not list the history of this course but if you are interested. This was originally a training camp for the New York Giants Baseball team. The pool is in the shape of a baseball glove and bat. Check it out if you go,
On to golf the course was in pretty nice shape , the greens are hard and the ball will takes a pretty good hop on you with your shots to the greens.
I also noticed a few blue billed ducks which look strange to me. Myself and my wife bought a summer pass a few years and were attacked by swarms of mesquitos . We did not go there much because of all of the swarms attacking us.
The control has improved from what it was , but as we were finishing our round we were attacked by mesqutos again. I hope they will spray the course to take care of this problem.. If you play I would suggest you bring a good repellant with you.
Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 04/23/2018Pace was slow
They had a senior tournament that had just ended when we arrived. Some of them played another round and were slow. They have no ranger and it took us 4 hrs to play. The course was in good condition . The greens were hard and did not hold a shot..
I booked with golf now at a rate that was far cheaper than what the course offered, so if you play book it on golf now and save some money.
The Duke at Rancho El Dorado
Played On 11/03/2017THE COURSE IS IN TRANSITION SUMMER TO WINTER GRASS
THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION CONSIDERING THE WINTER GRASS TRANSITION. THE FAIRWAYS WERE WET FROM THE OVERWATERING. THE GREENS WERE SLOW BECAUSE OF THE TRANSITION. BUT ALL IN ALL THE COURSE WAS NICE.
THE COURSE SHOULD BE IN GREAT SHAPE IN A MONTH OR SO.

Played On 05/19/2017They paint the fairways and there s a fungus on the greens
As we drove through the housing addition you could see the fairways had been painted. Green. The Greens had also been sprayed green and had a lot of bare spots with no grass on the greens. This reminded me of the Foothills golf course a few years back when their greens also had a fungus.
I would not recommend playing the club west golf course for any price . The caddy told me the course was not being watered and they were letting it die because they had no money. The course is going to close for summer play in June.
Escena Golf Club
Played On 08/27/2016Long, long hot time in the desert
The course is nice and in good shape. But if you go to play golf be prepared for a long long time on the course. We were on it for 5 1/2 hrs. There was a tournament going on. We did not know it till we asked why play was so slow. We were at the end of the tournament.
The course is in very good condition and would be a good course to play if only they monitored the pace of play. No ranger was there.
The group in front of our foursome was a threesome and measured each shot took them 20 minutes to play each hole.
I will play this again but will ask if they have a tournament.
Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2016long hot day at the crouded course
I RECIEVED A INVITATION FROM GOLF NOW TO PLAY KEN MCDONALD FOR $10.00 WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A DYNOMITE DEAL. I BOOKED FOR 2 PLAYERS AND WE WENT TO THE COURSE. WHEN WE ARRIVED I NOTICED A LOT OF CARS IN THE LOT ON 7/28/2016. 1230 P. M. WE CHECKED IN NO CARTS. TOLD CLERK WHO GAVE US THE KEY TO THE CART. HE SAID WELL GO TO THE BASEMENT AND GET ONE. AFTER GETTING THE CART WE WENT TO THE FIRST TEE . NO ONE AROUND LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD BE A GOOD DAY. AFTER THE FIRST HOLE AND GETTING TO THE ELEVATED 2ND HOLE TEE . I LOOKED AT THE #4 FAIRWAY WHICH IS A PAR 5. THERE WERE 8 PEOPLE WALKING ON THE FAIRWAY THE OTHER HOLES WERE ALL FULL ALSO. WE CONTINUED TO PLAY AND CAUGHT UP WITH THE 8 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF US. THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND US. WE WENT BACK TO HOLE #2 AND PLAYED 2,3,4 AGAIN HOLE 5 WAS OPEN SO WE PLAYED IT .
WE HAD CAUGHT UP WITH THE 8 PEOPLE AGAIN AND I ASKED THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON . I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A JUNIOR GOLF TOURNEY BEING PLAYED AND IT WAS THE AZ STATE JUNIOR GOLF TOURNEY. WELL WE CONTINUED TO JUMP AROUND PLAYING THE PREVIOUS HOLES. WE EVENTUALLY LEFT THE COURSE WITHOUT COMPLETEING OUR ROUND. IT WAS 113 DEGREES NO WATER ON THE COURSE AND PEOPLE ALL OVER UNDER TREES AT THE BACK OF TEES. THERE WERE 72 PLAYERS ON THE COURSE WITH THEIR MOMMIES AND DADDYS WITH THEM WALKING ALONG WITH THEM. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK GOLF NOW FOR FAILING TO TELL US THERE WAS A TOURNEMENT ON THE COURSE AND GIVING US SUCH A GREAT DEAL.
Westbrook Village Golf Club - Vistas Course
Played On 07/26/2016Very nice course
THIS COURSE WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THE GREENS ARE STILL BUMPY FROM THE OVERSEEDING BUT THEY ARE GROWING OUT AND SHOULD BE FINE IN A MONTH OR SO.
Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 05/19/2016VERY SLOW PLAY
WE HAD A GROUP OF 4 PLAYING IN FRONT OF US THAT WERE VERY SLOW THERE DRESS WAS INAPPROPRIATE FLIP FLOPS ONE DID NOT HAVE A SET OF CLUBS AND WAS GETTING CLUBS FROM OTHER PLAYERS AFTER THEY USED A CLUB. THEY HAD A GROUP OF 5 IN FRONT OF THEM . WE ASKED FOR A RANGER WHEN THE DRINK GIRL CAME AROUND SHE SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE AND FOR US TO PLAY 3 BALLS TO SLOW OUR PLAY DOWN. NEEDLESS TO SAY OUR GOLFING WAS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED AT KEN MCDONALD GOLF COURSE IN TEMPE.
AFTER WE FINISHED OUR ROUND WE WENT TO THE PRO SHOP AND COMPLAINED TO THE GIRL IN THE PRO SHOP SHE SAID SHE WAS AWARE OF THE GROUP OF 5 BUT WAS THE ONLY ONE AT THE COURSE AND COULD NOT DEAL WITH IT.
Club West Golf Club
Played On 02/25/2016LONG LONG TIME TO PLAY
WE DECIDED TO PLAY THIS COURSE BECAUSE WE WANTED TO PLAY A NICE COURSE. WE HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND FOUND IT TO BE A GOOD GOLF COURSE.
HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED WE STARTED AT 130 P.M. WE PLAYED THE FRONT NINE IN 2 HOURS WHICH IS OK , WE HAD A SINGLE JOIN US AT ABOUT THE 6TH HOLE . WHEN WE PLAYED THE BACK NINE PLAY CAME TO A HALT AT THE PAR 5 12TH HOLE. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE TEE THERE WERE 2 FOURSOMES AT THE TEE BOX 2 FOURSOMES ON THE FAIRWAY AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. AND 1 FOURSOME ON THE GREEN. THAT MEANT THERE WERE 6 GROUPS PLAYING THE SAME HOLE. I HAVE BEEN PALYING GOLF FOR 53 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. AFTER WAITING 15 MIN. THE LINE DID NOT MOVE SO WE DECIDED WE WOULD PLAY THE FRON NINE AGAIN . WE WENT TO THE STARTING AREA AND ASKED THE BAGBOY WHO WAS ALSO THE STARTER IF WE COULD PLAY THE FRONT NINE AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE SLOW PLAY ON THE BACK NINE . HE TOLD US THE COURSE IS OVERBOOKED AND THE PLAY IS REALY SLOW. I ASKED IF THEY HAD A RANGER TO MONITOR PLAY AND HE SAID NO THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE. HE SAID WE COULD PLAY THE FRONT AGAIN BUT WARNED IT WOULD BE SLOW ALSO. WE THREW CAUTHION TO THE WIND AND WENT TO THE FIRST HOLE. WE MANAGED TO PLAY 2 HOLES BEFORE IT BOGGED DOWN AGAIN AND WE SAW NO CHANCE OF FINISHING OUR ROUND OF GOLF SO WE QUIT AT 515 P.M. SO WE PAID $90.00 TO BASICALLY PLAY 9 HOLES OF GOLF. THIS OUTING WAS FOR MY WIFES BIRTHDAY SO I GOT TO HEAR ABOUT IT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS BECAUSE I HAD CHOSEN THE COURSE TO PLAY. I WILL NOT CHOOSE THIS COURSE IN THE FUTURE AND ADVISE YOU NOT TO EITHER UNLESS YOU ENJOY PAYING $45.00 FOR 9 HOLES OF VERY SLOW GOLF

Played On 11/12/2015Velcro fairway target golf
I felt like we were doomed from the time I got my golf cart loaded and drove around to the staging area where there were about 15 foursomes waiting to tee off the starter said they had frost in the morning and there would be a 30 -45 minute wait to play. Our tee time was at 12:34. We arrived early 12:10 pm we had driven from Tempe about a 40. Minute drive. We Teed off at 1:05 . The women's 9 hole assoc. was included in the waiting groups. This course was difficult with fast greens, narrow fairways and rough that the member we played with referred to as Velcro grass. If you hit the ball into the rough it kills the ball it will not roll. I have never seen grass like this before. It took me 9 holes to figure out how to hit a ball from this rough it kills your club head when you hit out of it . After we completed our round at 5:15 p.m. 4 hrs and 15 min. later the sun was going down .

This is a Phoenix public course which is in super condition

Played On 10/26/2015WHAT A DAY
I BOOKED THIS COURSE BECAUSE IT SHOWED IT WAS OPEN FOR FULL PLAY FOR CARTS TO BE OFF THE PATHS AND ON THE COURSE.
WHEN I GOT THERE THE PARKING LOT FOR THE GOLF COURSE WAS CLOSED AND THE MAIN ENTRANCE DRIVE WAS ALSO CLOSED OFF. I UNLOADED THE CLUBS AT THE RESORT MAIN ENTRANCE THE BELLMAN WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO WATCH ME DO IT.
I THEN PARKED THE CAR IN THE BALLROOM PARKING AREA AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT.
MY WIFE WENT IN TO REGISTER FOR THE GOLF. A FEW MINUTES A BAG BOY CAME OUT AND DROVE ME AND HER TO CART STAGING AREA WITH OUR CLUBS. SHE INFORMED ME IT WAS CART PATH ONLY.
THE COURSE WAS WET WHICH IS TO BE EXPECTED IN OVERSEEDING. VERY SLOW PLAY WE MANAGED TO GET THRU A COUPLE OF GROUPS BUT IT STILL TOOK US 3 HRS 15 MIN TO PLAY. COURSE SHOULD BE GREAT THIS WINTER BUT IS NO GOOD RIGHT NOW.
Thank you sir for your thorough review of your round with us. We apologize sincerely that your experience did not meet your expectations, as you stated with overseeding and wet conditions we sometimes have no choice but to declare cart path only. We hope you understand and could possibly reach out to us at arizonagolfresort1960@gmail.com so we can discuss your round before the next time you visit us.

Played On 10/22/2015GREAT DAY
WE WERE FROM OUT OF TOWN AND BOOKED THIS ON LINE. IT WAS A EXCELLANT COURSE FOR AN EXECUTIVE COURSE. IT WAS A LITTLE SLOW IT TOOK US 3 HRS TO PLAY THE ROUND.
NO ONE MONITORED THE PLAY.
THE GREENS ARE LONGER THAN WE ARE USED TO, THE PEOPLE WHO PLAYED WITH US SAID THE GREENS ARE ABOUT THE SAME SIZE ALL THE TIME.
ALL AND ALL IT WAS A NICE ROUND OF GOLF.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 10/11/2015LONG LONG TIME TO PLAY
I PLAYED ON 10-11-15 WITH MY WIFE WE HAD PURCHASED AN OFFER FROM GOLF CADDY FOR $55.00 WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A GREAT DEAL. WHEN WE GOT THERE FOR OUR 1030 TEE OFF WE NOTED THE PARKING LOT WAS CLOSE TO FULL. WE WENT TO THE STARTER AFTER CHECKING IN AND WERE MATCHED UP WITH ANOTHER COUPLE. PLAY WAS EXTREMELY SLOW AND THE COUPLE WE WERE MATCHED WITH WERE ALSO VERY SLOW. THE RANGER CAME AROUND A FEW TIMES AND TOLD US PLAY WAS SLOW. THE LAST TIME HE CAME AROUND ON THE 14TH TEE HE TOLD US THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH A GROUP THREE HOLES INFRONT OF US AND THE POLICE HAD TO BE CALLED TO REMOVE THEM FROM THE COURSE. WE COMPLETED OUR ROUND AT 415. SO WE WERE ON THE COURSE FOR OVER 5 HOURS. THE BAG BOY SAID THEY HAD OVER 250 PLAYERS FOR THE DAY AND THE COURSE WAS OVERBOOKED.
Apache Stronghold Golf Course
Played On 10/09/2015The Wild Wild West
Man this course is rough. The cart paths are in really bad shape. The wooden bridges crossing revines are treturace with some of them half rotted with missing boards. There is a 6-10 ft drop off to a dry wash area. This is in a mountainous area with a lot of revines the cart paths are rutted and in need of repair.
On several holes long par 5 630 yards being the longest you have 2 different fairways to hit to. Very confusing to 1 st time players. Most all the holes you are 200- 250 to clear revines and brush area to hit the fairways. I liked the challenge but for a moderate players will have problems hitting to the fairways. My wife simply went to the fairway to hit her drives because of the difficulty hitting the fairway from the lady's tees.
The fairways were wide and in places very wet 2 of the fairways were closed off because they were so wet you could not drive the cart on them. Several were extremely soaked you had to walk a ways to get to your ball because of all the mud. As I said I enjoyed the challenge but remember it is a long long course with very wet and muddy conditions. So if you play it remember it is the Wild Wild West.
Thank you for your comments. By way of explanation for some of the issues you raised; Tom Doak designed this course to be "natural" and to have dirt cart paths. Although water does not come into play, he also designed seven holes where play crosses washes: two par 3's and five others where you must cross with your second shot. The GPS on the carts helps you negotiate the washes by giving distances and directions for all hazards. We also had two major rain events this week which, unfortunately, required closing two holes to cart traffic. With regard to the one bridge with broken boards caused by a fork lift, that is being repaired this week; however, the bridges are still wide enough to avoid the damage and are structurally sound. We also have five sets of tees so the course can be played from 5535 yards to 7519 yards depending upon your choice. I'm sorry you found the course not to your expectations. We understand our course can be challenging to golfers playing it for the first time but hope you will return now you have a better idea what to expect. Please stop and see me when you do.

THE GROUNDS AND COURSE WERE IN VERY NICE CONDITION. THE GREENS HAD BEEN PLUGGED AND DRESSED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO BUT THEY ARE STILL IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE.
