About
My name is Tim and I cofounded 3Hour Golf. We are a group of golfers that first and foremost think the game should be played fast. We are always in the search for that 3Hour round, hence the name. We also like to play for a few bucks, have a few beers and maybe a cigar or two on the course.
To help gofers learn how to play faster we created the first ever Pace of Play Index. Like your handicap index, this provides you with your individual pace of play. Get one today at www.paceofplayindex.com
I love golf architecture and used to do maintenance and course construction when I was younger. I have young kids now so I don't play as much but I am still just as obsessed with the game!

Indian Pond Country Club
Played On 11/05/2017Private Hidden Gem
Got the chance to play Indian Pond today. It was November in New England so it was Fall conditions but you could tell that mid summer the greens are probably pretty fast. Lots of slope on the greens too.
This is a private course but the vibe is really laid back. Pace of play was great, as would be expected at a private track. We only saw a few groups all day.
The course is relatively short but you can get into some trouble off the tee. Be aware that there are a TON of white staked OB all over this course in case you are playing in a tourney or with some rule sticklers.
Almost every hole has a dogleg, which is fun. There are two throwaway short par-4 dogleg rights, one on the front and one on the back. Other than that all of the holes are very solid and fun. Both #9 and #18 are cool holes to potentially end a match on.
Overall a very solid course. One that you could play over and over and find different ways to play it. Hope to return soon.
There is your 3Hour Golf Review!
Pro Tip:
1. Stay below the hole on almost every green.
2. Most tee shots work well for a draw.
Shaker Hills Country Club
Played On 10/28/2017Shaker Hills!
Played Shaker today. Greens had been punched so were a little bumpy and sandy. You can tell the greens are just average when filled in. Other areas were in good shape with some bare spots. Conditions at Shaker are moderate to good most times.
The course layout is great. No real blind tee shots. Great variety of holes and elevations changes. Red Tail is right down the street and really shines compared to Shaker but Shaker is still a solid choice. Playing these two back to back for 36 is a fun day.
The staff here are top notch. Nice, friendly and attentive. The clubhouse is clean with great food and beverage options.
Los Lagos at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/22/2017Laid back Muni with great greens
I have played Costa Mesa many times in the past and really like the course. In OC there are only a few well-priced tracks so this place gets a TON of play. They let our 5somes in like 5 min intervals all weekend long so the pace of play is terrible anytime after about 9AM.
This course is super laid back and casual. I have seen guys go out in a tank top and jean shorts all day. The course itself is basically just an old orange farm they turned into a golf course. A few somewhat interesting holes with doglegs but thats about it. They do have two courses with Lagos being the longer of the two.
The conditions, especially the greens, are top notch. They can make the greens play tough if they want because most slope back to front Donny Ross style.
Mile Square down the street has a better layout but the conditions at Costa Mesa are better. Both get tons of play. If you are looking for a casual round to have a few beers and some fun play Costa Mesa. If you are looking for a more serious and faster-paced round you can still play here just before 9AM.
That's your 3Hour Golf review!
Pro Tips:
1. Getting a tee time here is tough but they keep a list going for single walk-ons and you can usually get on this way even on a packed weekend.
2. They let out groups on the back nine for half price early in the morning.
3. The breakfast food in the cafe is actually awesome! Savvy locals go there just for brunch with no wait.
The Kittansett Club
Played On 10/22/2016Very private gem
They don't build them like this anymore! I had the pleasure of playing Kittanset as our home course in high school. The place is ultra private and the staff treated us that way.
The course is really great. The third hole is probably the coolest par 3 in the US. It is right on the beach. When the tide is in it's an island green. When it goes out you play the beach like a waste area sand trap and this course was built in the 1910s!
The rest of the course layout is a great mix of holes. The course is not long but the wind is what protects it. One of my best golf moments occurred with a hole in one on the eight hole. If you ever get the chance to play it you should jump!
Farm Neck Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2016Best course on the east coast no one knows about
So Obama may have made Farm Neck popular but this course is really a hidden gem. Pro shop and clubhouse is understated but very clean and welcoming. The layout is awesome. Great mix of holes, doglegs, well placed fairway bunkers, etc. Multiple holes have legit water views and there are multiple ponds that are in play.
Course is not long but the challenge is the wind. It is only 6300 from the blue tees but if the wind gets up that plays more like 6900. Hole 14 might be the best short par 4 in New England. Hole 18 is just what a finishing hole should be. A par 5 that you can reach in two if you challenge the OB.
Staff was friendly but not overly so. Don't expect a "member for the day" experience but we were treated very well by the staff. My only beef was how much OB there was on the course. It didn't effect us since we played everything as a lateral hazard, as the rule should be! But if you were playing a tourney or with a rule stickler the OB could lead to some galacial rounds I would imagine.
