Golfer Behaviors

I am a snowbird and play this course 1-2 times per week in January and February. This is my 2nd year playing here. I sense that there is a clique at this course who have an attitude that the rules and golf etiquette do not apply to them.

On a prior occasion, I immediately followed a group of 30 or so golfers who regularly play a scramble on Sunday with the course pro. That day, the course was littered with cigarette butts, especially on the fringe around the greens. On one hole, there were orange peelings lying on the ground next to the ball washer.

In general, I have noticed that divots on fairways and ball marks on the greens are being repaired by golfers.

On this particular occasion, while waiting 20 minutes to tee off on Hole 1, no golfers went out ahead of me in this time. I was scheduled with another single. We never saw another group on any hole on the front nine. When we came to Hole 9, there were no golfers on the fairway or on the green. The flag was in. We played Hole 9 quickly and went directly to Hole 10, without stopping at the turn. When we got to the Hole 10 tee, there were 5 golfers walking off the tee. I gave them the opportunity to "do the right thing" without asking, as we were a twosome. They carried on without even acknowledging us. They played Hole 10 slowly. We waited to hit our drives. When we got to our drives, we had to wait again as this group was still on the green. We decided to skip the green for Hole 10 and proceeded to the tee for Hole 11, while the five-some was still on the green of Hole 10. As I was setting up for my drive, one of the 5 yelled at me from the Hole 10 green. I noticed that his cart was parked on the fringe of the green. He then came rushing over to us to say that we are to play Hole 11 AFTER his five-some group. I said that we would be teeing off right away and would be long gone by the time the rest of his group got to the tee on Hole 11. He became belligerent and proceeded to argue with me and tell me that he was going to report me to Rick (the pro). I replied that he can also tell the pro that his group is a 5-some and that his electric golf cart had been parked on the fringe adjacent to the green. We proceeded to play Hole 11 and never saw this group again.

On Hole 15, my playing partner got a phone call and had to leave immediately. I continued by myself. When I reached Hole 17, a man and a lady were just setting up to tee off. I asked if I could join them for the last two holes. To my shock, they replied, "We would rather not." WOW!

It is interesting to note that this Municipal course allows golfers to wear blue jeans on the course. At first, I thought that was okay, so I wear my jeans to the course on cold days when I am not wearing shorts. Now, in retrospect, I think that not having a dress code could cause golfers to have an indifference towards golf etiquette and other course and game rules. Hey, what do I know. I am not a psychologist.

Finally, I have never seen a Ranger on this course. I think they need to hire one.

After reading your review I felt that I had the need to comment on this situation. I was one of the fivesome and need to clarify exactly what happened with the situation regarding your review. Our foursome teed off at 10:30. There was a single golfer in front of us and we followed him through the front nine. Waiting patiently on each hole as he was waiting for the two some in front of him.

We then proceeded to hole number 10 on hole the single golfer asked if he could join up with us as he was waiting on the twosome in front of him. Knowing that the Golf Course allowed five somes we said sure that would be great if you joined us.

We all teed off our shot on hole number 10. Upon leaving the tee off box there were two men in golf carts waiting for their tee off. A comment was made that we were hoping to speed up as we were always waiting.

The one golfer looked at us and his demeanour was not very nice. No smiles or acknowledgment of what we said. We continued to play hole number 10 and as we were playing up towards the green the two drove by on their golf carts and the one man proceeded to set up to tee off on hole number 11.
His partner acknowledged that we were leaving hole number 10 green and said to him they're coming off the green now you totally ignored your partner and continued the set up process to tee off on hole number 11. It was then that the one person that joined our group approached you and said excuse me sir but it is our turn to tee off. You became very belligerent and accused us of not even golfing and just jumping onto the back we tried to explain the situation to you but you would not listen to any words that came out of our mouths. I finally asked you what your tee time was and you said 10:45.
You were very rude and confrontational. Even saying to us we had better not even try to hit up on you because bad things would happen.

After talking for a few minutes more you then said to me well you guys go ahead. I said no thank you.

I guess what you didn't realize is if you had only used golf etiquette and asked us to play through this confrontation would of never happened.

You totally took it upon yourself to butt in. You played the front nine with no one in front of you and thought you could do the same in the back.

You continued your fast pace constantly hitting up to the twosome in front of you.

So on hole 17 that twosome had teed off and you approached them on their second shot and asked them if they minded if you joined them as your partner had left. You were amazed that they both said yes they would mind. Once again your own lack of golf etiquette resulted in them saying no.

The final straw was your audacity to go into the clubhouse and complain about our fivesome.

Your review reflects so much negativity towards golfers and staff at Blythe Golf course. I have been golfing for 20 years plus and find this course very accommodating and everyone is extremely friendly.

I have golfed this course 18 times so far and have always seen the Marshall.

I have never in my life encountered a situation like that day and hope that I never will.

So this is the other side of your review.

My "A" wedge was stolen

I booked as a single. A bucket of range balls was included with my green fee. After hitting only 2-3 balls, the starter, Al, who hangs out at the driving range pressured me to join another single and go to No. 1 tee immediately, as he wanted to get two other large groups out behind us. In my haste, I forgot to take my A wedge and left it at the spot closest to where the starter hangs out, along with an almost full bucket of range balls. Al should have seen my club lying next to the balls and should have taken a cart to bring me the club. When I returned to starter area, after the first 9 holes, Al was gone and so was my A wedge. Another employee I spoke to did not seem to understand that I would be upset by the loss of the club and did not seem concerned. Matt, in the Pro Shop, was helpful, but I got attitude from everyone else. I got the feeling that this happens alot at this course, so watch your stuff when you play here.

Hostile towards golf now bookings

We arrived at the course about an hour and a half early because of we could not get a tee time at another course nearby. We asked if we could go out before our scheduled tee time. We never had a problem doing so at several other courses we have booked through golfNow. The young lady in the pro shop said that we could not go out on the course until our tee time because we booked through golfNow. In the hour and a half that we waited only three groups went out. One went out just after we arrived and the last two went out just before we went out. For the better part of an hour and 20 minutes nobody went out. We were not permitted to go out in spite of the fact that there was nobody going out at the time we wanted to play. We will NEVER play this course again Golfnow or otherwise. If the course doesn't like Golfnow golfers, they should withdraw from the program rather than treating them like garbage.
