An unexpected challenge

We played this course on a beautiful clear day during one of the wettest Springs I can remember. The course had surprisingly few really wet areas; therefore, it's obviously well drained. The rough was challengingly deep/ thick as they hadn't been able to mow for a while. The course is one of the few in Vermont that is perfect for walking as it is mostly flat. The unexpected challenge is from the creek that is in play for the majority of the front 9. On the holes where the creek is an issue, its necessary to play strategically. I very rarely used my driver on these holes and the challenge in making par came from difficult and sometimes long 2nd shots into greens. When we made the turn onto the back 9, I was happy to have the creek behind us and there were more par 3s than expected. The par 3s were a lot of fun and the 18 finished with some wide open par 4s and a par 5. The staff was very attentive and polite. They provided ice water, tees and a towel in the cart. The facilities were nice- as you might expect from a course affiliated with an Inn/resort. All in all, an atypical Vermont course as its not a mountain course (so no panoramic views) and is along route 106. However, I would still recommend this course if you enjoy strategic / target course and some fun par 3s.

A true mountain course

This is a mountain course. You are unlikely to find a flat lie except for maybe 2 holes on the back 9. Most holes are fairly straight but then they are made tougher by narrow fairways or hills necessitating blind shots. The greens are in good shape and fair- the breaks are gradual and if you are a good lag putter you'll be fine. The fairway rough was mostly cut short and not too difficult; the rough directly around the greens was penalizing. Bunkers were mostly around the greens and weren't in play for me. We played mid-week and there was no issue with pace of play.

As the course opens mid-may (just over a week ago), there was quite a bit of work being done on the course (particularly in some of the bunkers). As this was my first time playing the course I greatly appreciated that the course provided us with a book depicting each hole with map and important yardage to hazards. While this course is associated with a ski resort, it does not have the polish you might expect (i.e. The restaurant is more of a grill and kind of run down and the restrooms were sad). The staff was very friendly and attentive.

All in all, I would recommend the course if you like a unique challenge as it doesn't remind me of any other course I've played in VT or elsewhere. We took advantage of a hot deal and that made it a great value.
