The New England Country Club
Played On 08/23/2018Great tract
Excellent round play as a 3 some in exactly 4 hrs. Conditions were great, greens fast as always but soft and held all approach shots. Some blind shots and somewhat hilly but overall a very fair course. You will be rewarded for good shots and pay the price for bad. One recommendation for the course wood be to chart pin locations. It would be very helpful as on several holes you can see top of flag but have no idea if it is right, left or center. Just my 2 cents !
Shaker Hills Country Club
Played On 06/30/2018Not worth the money
Beautiful summer weekend day and there were a ton of tee times available. Also received email with membership rates discounted 30%. Two red flags but though would give a shot. It is a great layout with the exception of the 18th which I would rate as the worst finishing hole I have ever played. not just condition ( photo of 18th fairway attached) but the hole design is awful. As other reviewers noted conditions are average to poor in many locations. Lots of hard pan, rocks and roots when just off the fairway or green. Cutting of fringe around green is inconsistent. They like to use green spray paint to hide the dirt and hard pan. I am sure they will say it is a fertilizer or something but it is clearly used to mask poor conditions. I play MANY $100 courses in NE and have never seen this anywhere. Sadly I believe conditions could be much better with the proper staff or perhaps existing staff having better budget. I have seen courses with conditions like this vastly improve with changing of personnel. Traps very inconsistent from rock hard to average to many weeds growing in them and several broken rakes. Greens inconsistent and tee boxes beat up on several holes. Overpriced and average golf experience.
Stow South at Stow Acres Country Club
Played On 10/13/2017So many better choices
As the title says there are way too many better run courses to spend your money at. Starter did not adhere to tee times and just sent players to tee before group in front even hit their 2nd shot. Waited 7-8 minutes between each shot. waited at each tee with group in front of us for 7-8 minutes. 2 hrs and a whopping 6 holes later starter put his ranger hat on as course has no rangers and comes out and belligerently tells us we are holding up golfers behind us rather than driving ahead to see where there are open holes and having guilty group pick up and move along. No management, mediocre course conditions, no beautification anywhere, poor signage and I could go on. 19th hole ( that's being generous) is the equivalent of a high school cafeteria. You go up and order your food and when it is ready they yell it out and you go get it. Left after 6 holes (1st time ever doing that in 30 years) went next door to Butternut. Great conditions, great staff, pumpkins and mums everywhere, a real 19th hole with a real bartender and server. New owners appear to have picked up where last ones left off and they were foreclosed on. Will not surprise me to see it happen again
Ellinwood Country Club
Played On 08/26/2017Great local course
Don't mind the hour drive, great layout from a golfers perspective. Green, fringe and tee boxes always in good shape. Fairways can be weather dependent, this year no complaints. Cart paths broken up so expect a bumpy ride. Great staff, pace of play and old school character. Great finishing 4 holes.
The Brookside Club
Played On 07/16/2017Great track
First time playing and will be back, conditions were excellent, fast pace for a summer weekend. Had avoided course due to reputation of side hill / uphill lies etc but a very fair course.
Ellinwood Country Club
Played On 08/30/2015Very pleasant surprise
This course has several great golf holes. Challenging but very rewarding if you hit it straight and know your yardages. Fantastic greens. Some bare spots in fairways and ledge outcrops but plenty of good lies. 1st and 2nd cuts around green excellent. Throat into green excellent also. Generous landing area's and you will not be penalized for just missing green like many courses in this price range. All bunkers raked perfectly. A few elevated greens, and a few blind shots. Staff VERY friendly. This was 1st visit, have gone a 2nd time and have booked 3rd tee time. Love the Ross / Cornish mix. Paving on cart paths need some attention so expect a bumpy ride. I'll happily take the bumps to be able to enjoy this course!
Whitinsville Golf Club
Played On 9/25/2012Great 9 hole course
Not usually a fan of 9 holes but especially on the 1st visit you will be happy you got a 2nd chance at a few of the holes! And there is enough difference on 1/2 of the holes it does not feel like the same hole. Cannot stress this enough, keep the ball in front of the hole! These will be the fastest greens you have played, I promise. I will be going back!
International Golf Club - Oaks Course
Played On 9/11/2012Very nice tract
Ok, this is a tough one to write. As stated it is a great tract but not for the full retail rate. Although course is in "private" condition there are no truly memorable "golf" holes. No water (hazards) on course. Signature seems to be traps in front of elevated greens. No flowers or flowering trees on course. No starter. For $100+ I like 10 minute tee times enforced. Because private, no comfortable 19th hole to relax in after round. Carts feature GPS. When all is said in done I would return for a discounted rate but there are nicer public courses for $100+
