Palmer at Geneva National Golf Club
Played On 08/27/2023Perfect day for golf
Signed up for the first tee time of the morning which meant we were leaving around 4am from the Chicago suburbs, and it was all worth it! Day was perfect, staff at the pro shop and starter at the first tee were friendly and engaging even early in the AM. We were scheduled to go off first as a 3 some, but let a twosome behind us go first just to make it easier. After the first hole we never saw them so pace of play was great - saw another 2 approaching behind us at 10 and let them pass as well and still played in 3:20. Couse was in great shape on tee & fairways, and greens were smooth but not lightning fast so fun to putt on. Lot of undulations on the greens - look at the gps on the cart to see the "hot and cold" zones on the greens to plan approach shots. The layout was challenging, definitely more of a shot-maker layout than wide open. Overall a great course and will definitely return!
Cypress View Golf and Recreation Club
Played On 05/27/2023Course in poor shape, hidden water
Course was in pretty poor condition, fairways had barely any grass on them you basically had to roll every show to make sure you were on some kind of grass. Tee boxes also pretty sparse for what has been great weather for growing this spring. Greens were in nice shape, best part of the course.
Overall not an enjoyable course, there are significant water hazards on every hole...yes every hole...and not just small streams: large ponds, retention areas, etc. Many of them are also hidden from sight lines when playing and with no GPS on the carts, you think you hit a great drive only to find it in a hidden pond. I'm a high single, low double digit handicapper and played with a high handicapper who spent the whole day in his bag getting out golf balls.
This was the only course available on Saturday am to play and I see why. The price plus the cost of lost golf balls in the water makes it overpriced for the condition. Even though we played quick because no one was there, I'd pay more to play a nicer course and even take an extra half an hour to play next time for sure.

Loved this course! We had seen the advertisements over the years on the golf channel but never made it out even though it's less than an hour from our home in the western suburbs of Illinois. It was a mistake to miss it over the years! Course was wet from two inches of overnight rain at our 7:30 am arrival and cart path only so we decided to walk - great decision! The course layout and condition except for some wet areas from the short time they had to drain but that did not impact the overall experience. Staff was friendly - let us go out before our tee time as there was an earlier open time. Loved the layout and the greens were smooth and fast even after the rain. One of the top courses you can play in Chicagoland and especially for under $50 - worth the drive!
TPC Deere Run
Played On 08/01/2019Worth the drive from Chicago
We have been out here for Deere Classic tournament several times and love the course so decided to take my son out for a round after his college graduation. Pro shop staff were and starter were very friendly, and the course was in perfect condition still a couple weeks after the tournament. The pace of play was great...didn't run into anyone until the 15th hole and we were under 3 hours. Unfortunately, we were playing as a twosome and the foursome in front of us would not let us play through, so the pace crawled for the last four holes, but it did not detract from a great round of golf and we still played in 4 hours. Would definitely come back...one of my favorite courses in all of Illinois for the price!
Highlands of Elgin
Played On 07/30/2017Great layout
Highlands of Elgin is one of the top public courses in the area. The course was in great shape, greens were fast but not lightning, and the pace of play was under four hours on a Sunday after in the summer...doesn't get much better. The layout mixes in some good risk/reward holes and is very challenging. Standing up on the tee at 12 and looking back down over parts of the front nine and you really get a sense for how well designed the course is. Highly recommended and worth the trip if you don't live close.
Blackstone Golf Club
Played On 07/02/2017Best kept secret in the western suburbs
We are avid golfers and play a lot of golf in the western suburbs, and Blackstone never disappoints. The layout is scenic and challenging with several sets of tees to make it fair for all levels of play. greens are some of my favorite of the public courses; they are challenging and fast but true - all you have to do is get the putt on line. Good value for the greens fee even on a Sunday afternoon on a Holiday weekend and the pace of play was around 4:15...can't beat that. Pro shop staff is friendly and they have a nice selection of merchandise, too. Highly recommended and will definitely be back!
Blackstone Golf Club
Played On 06/07/2014Great layout
Course was in great condition, greens were fast and true. Pace of play was great - Saturday at 10:40 to play under four hours on a public course when all of the tee times were crowded was a nice surprise because the layout is tough. Only negative was no beverage cart on the course....it was 82 and sunny and though you pass the beverage shack at 5 and 14, it was not enough to keep hydrated
