Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
Played On 12/26/2020Applewood Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2020Good value, nice setting.
Solid course for the money. I’d give it 3.5 stars if possible, but I was pleasantly surprised after reading some of these reviews beforehand. It’s in decent shape, greens are fast and some interesting holes. I only paid $30 on a Saturday afternoon with the Golf Passport and would definitely play again at that price.
Ranch Golf Course at Pole Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2020Not worth the price
I had high hopes for Pole Creek and it didn’t meet them. The course has amazing views and some interesting holes, but it was not a good value. I understand you pay more in the mountains, but for $109 (Saturday morning) the course should’ve been in better shape. The greens, in particular, were shaggy and slow. There was no water on the course or pencils in the cart (maybe COVID-related).
Overall, I felt it should’ve been nicer and more intriguing for the price. Keystone Ranch is a similar price and offers a much better experience in my opinion.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 06/19/2020Underwhelming for price
This course didn’t live up to my expectations. It was not in very good shape — greens were shaggy and slow, fairways brown with a lot of bare spots, bunkers were rock hard. The scenery and views are outstanding, and there are some interesting holes. Buttoo many forced carries in my opinion (especially around greens).
It has a lot of potential and I’m sure it was an excellent track when the PGA played here, but seems to have fallen off.
Sewailo Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2020Beautiful, intriguing course
Awesome course. The layout really makes you think and it’s challenging without being overly penal. Even in the heat of summer, the course was in very good shape. We paid $44 each which was a great value.
The Homestead Golf Course
Played On 11/17/2019Beautiful location, something different
Beautiful setting and design, with rolling hills on many holes and the mountains as a backdrop. I've played it twice, and it was in great shape both times. Pace was pretty slow both times, maybe because it's a shorter course that appeals to an older (and slower) crowd.
As others have noted, even though it's a short course, I would not call it easy. Many of the par 3s in particular are long and tricky. Overall, I definitely recommend Homestead.
CommonGround Golf Course
Played On 05/19/2019CommonGround is a really solid public course and one of my five favorite courses in the Denver area. It's an interesting layout that is still very playable, and has stellar views of the Denver skyline/mountains on a few holes. It's also very walkable -- holes are close together and not a lot of elevation change.
Since this is a popular course, it can be very slow. I also agree that it can be a bit overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $50 or so to walk 18 or $30 for 9.
Walnut Creek Golf Preserve
Played On 07/01/2018Beautiful Course, Great Conditions
Walnut Creek is in extremely good shape, from the fairways to the greens to the bunkers. The greens rolled true, though they were tricky and difficult. It's a true links course with almost no trees, plenty of fescue, pot bunkers, etc.
Several holes have picturesque views, especially on the back 9. The nearby office parks/airport take away from the vibe a little bit, but that's the price you pay for a convenient location. It's still beautiful and I highly recommend it.
The only issue was pace of play. It took our foursome about 5 hours, 15 minutes to get through 18 holes -- we had to wait to play on most shots. On a few holes, there were two different groups on the hole while we stood on the tee box. This may have just been bad luck because of one or two slow groups.
Riverdale Dunes
Played On 05/27/2018Outstanding Value, Great Course
This is one of my favorite courses in the Metro Denver area, and you'll have a hard time finding a better deal. I paid $43 for twilight 18 on a weekend, including cart.
The Dunes is always in wonderful shape with plenty of intriguing and challenging holes. While the course is wide open, the rough is punishing and there's a lot of water (i.e., bring extra balls). There's not a single house on the course, which is a pleasant surprise. It is crowded, but that's to be expected when it's a great deal.
Murphy Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/16/2018Wonderful Links Course
One of the best courses I have played in the Denver area. Fairways and greens were in great shape and a beautiful layout. The truest links-style course I've played.
Definitely a challenging course for high-handicappers like myself, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Will definitely be back.
Meadow/Links at Fox Hollow at Lakewood
Played On 05/01/2018Beautiful course, great value
Just played 9 holes at The Canyon course. Great conditions, intriguing layout and a stellar price. Definitely one of the best overall courses I've played in the Denver area. Highly recommend and will definitely be back soon.
