Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club - The Lynedoch Course
Played On 06/30/2023Not what it used to be like, disappointing
Wholly disappointed with our 18 holes on the Lynedoch from last week.
Course was empty which indicates people not interested in playing there.
Wanted a relatively quicker round than playing the main course and it was ideal for that in terms of time to get around the course.
Booking in and to the tee were relatively straight forward.
My biggest gripe was not being told about the condition of the greens and the maintainence work that had been carried out and the "discolouration" of the bunkers with some sort of weed killer of some sort.
The greens were ok at best. Been cored and refilled but never got a true roll or consistent pace between all 10 greens we played on. The bunkers had discolouration from spraying so we decided to lift and drop out of them as we were not told what it was and with having a skin condition I wasn't wanting to risk any contact burn issues.
I love the set up, some nice short par 4s that can bite you if your offline and the par 3s may look easy but you need to be accurate.
Disappointed at green fee and condition presented. Needs to be better especially at this time of year. Won't be back anytime soon I think. Greens recently played on the North Inch are far superior than here.
Also watch out for the "service charge" when buying any drinks or food in the bar afterwards.
Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club - The Murrayshall Course
Played On 10/04/2016Challenging but enjoyable.
Tee'd up and had no idea where to go as even with living within 2 miles of this course all my life I'd never played it.
I joined a member on the second tee which proved invaluable for my round and helpful areas to aim.
Course was in great condition still on full greens and tees and the greens were true and of good pace. They weren't cored as most courses are at this time of the year.
A few uphill holes will shorten your drives but coming back down certainly boosted my drives near 300 yards off the tee. Taking a driver and a 9 or a wedge into a par 5 is a tad surreal.
Great pin placements and tee areas. Some certainly challenging holes but not to hard for those with higher handicaps or those who don't hit the ball too far.
Par 3s are testing so get your yardage numbers right or you'll walk off with a 5/6! Similarly the 9th, Devils Elbow. Arguably the most bizarre par 5 I've ever played. I won't tell you any more but make sure your tee shot is correct from tee to fairway. At only 453 it is not as easy as 2 big whacks. You've been warned!
I'm mid to low handicap and found birdies easy to get a chance at but also easy to put yourself behind trees and no shots to the green.
Superb set up and also the Lynedoch up there too, so tempted and impressed by how the green staff look after the course I'm looking at membership.
Par 72 of the yellows, 71 for the Ladies and a 73 of the Whites. From 5045 to 6120 yards.
