Upper Canada Golf Course
Played On 05/28/2017A Lovely Parklands Style Layout
The course was in good condition considering the amount of rain this year and the fact that it is a low-lying property to start with. The greens in particular were in exceptional condition however the fairways offered little roll due to their wetness underfoot and as such the course played much longer than usual. My concern for the day was that there was a tournament of some sort and every flag was a horror show designed to make it almost impossible to hit anything close or to make many putts. This made the day a bit labourious and tedious as there was little let-up hole-to-hole.
Superb home-made burgers on the grill as we walked off and that is a great touch.
On the other side of the ledger is that this course always plays slow and their idea of 4:15 as an acceptable time for a round of golf must go the way of the Dodo bird.
Heritage Harbour Golf Club
Played On 12/16/2016No, no, no.
I had not visited this course in a few years as it had become dog-eared and the greens unplayable. Recently, I heard that they had put in new grass on the greens and as such decided to give it another try.
Mistake. Big mistake.
Very slow, lumpy and barely playable greens with new grass made the day a waste of effort. The many bunkers are still in disrepair with a number of them eroding away and differing conditions of sand from near mud to very nice sand... sometimes on the same hole.
The clubhouse is very nice, the carts are fast (this is needed as some holes are hundreds of yards apart) but the course itself has declined and now is little more than a Rolling Hills or Saranoa which is too bad.
Also, the carts have system that monitors where they are in relation to the greens and yet do not offer yardages. Seriously?
There are many courses in much better shape than Stoneybrook so to play there makes little sense. Unless they do a full renovation I will never return.
Rosedale Golf & Country Club
Played On 12/04/2016Rosedale Succeeds
This is well-maintained course that is tight, with some well contoured greens and it offers a solid challenge to most players.
There is little to complain about but sometimes there are slow-paying member who need some prodding from the management.
The fellow in the Pro-Shop was not terribly friendly but certainly not rude. A smile and decent greeting can't hurt!
All in all a fine morning of golf at one of the better 'housing tract' courses in the area code.
Tatum Ridge Golf Links
Played On 12/02/2016Tatum is Getting The Message
The course last year fell into disrepair which, combined with the bad attitude of the management, made it a terrible place play. While the greens are still in the process of coming back they are much improved as is the pace of play. There is an obvious and on-going effort to clean up the course and these combined steps forward are a welcome surprise as the course was once a very lovely layout.
Too many of the greens still suffer from overly wet areas on the approach but credit is due to all involved as things are slowly but surely getting better.
The Highlands Golf Course
Played On 04/10/2016Certainly Worth A Vist
The greens are in good shape, fair and consistent while the fairways good. The layout is better than average and, considering much of it runs through housing, when combined with good service and a great food deal at half-way, you have a solid experience for the money.
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 03/25/2016Play this course.
A well maintained course with fast, true greens and good selection of holes. For a course that wanders through a community, it plays more like a parkland layout instead of a back and forth series of similar holes.
While it can appear intimidating with water on most holes, it actually has generous landing areas if you take what is offered and try not to get too aggressive.
Visitors to the region would do well to add this to their rota... certainly one of the best courses available to the public.
The Links at Greenfield Plantation
Played On 01/30/2016Never Again
Garbage course, poorly maintained and they specialise in slow play. The only good things I can say is that the overwhelmed young man taking the green fees was very friendly and efficient and the course ranger was also a good sport in addition to being an asset to the course.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Stittsville Golf Course
Played On 05/08/2015Great Walk on a Beautiful Day
A very enjoyable day on a course that begs to be walked. The greens were quite decent for this time of year and although there is some damage to the fairways they were also fine for the early part of the season.
Maybe the nicest folks in the business work at Glen Mar starting when you walk in to the Pro-Shop door right through the starter to the staff at the nineteenth hole.
While this course will never be confused with Eagle Creek, it is a naturally appealing place without a single house or condo-block anywhere to be found, plenty of wildlife and some well defined tree-lined holes that give the course some character and charm.
Great value for the money and the only hitch being they might be too nice to some of the patrons who can be slower than needed.
Gatineau Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2015Lipstick on a pig.
Some very nice new design features are the best part of the Gatineau but the greens were terrible and unplayable irrespective of the time of year. There is no drinking water on the course and a bottle of water at the tenth tee costs $2.75... that is just plain gouging.
As much as I liked the new layout, in particular the back nine par fives, the ground is relentlessly firm to the point you can barely put a tee into it on a single tee box. In this respect it was like playing the Gatineau of old and for all of the efforts to remake the course it is still like playing on bad Astroturf laid across a runway.
The staff were generally friendly and polite but the starter did not bother to ask the very noisy group behind us to be quiet on the first tee whilst we were hitting.
The new clubhouse is exceptional but I'd rather have seen the money for that go into better tee boxes, fairways and greens.
The Marshes Golf Club
Played On 09/08/2014The Marshes has declined
I took two guests from out of town to play what was once a premier facility but has fallen into the category of faded roses. In particular the bunkers were terrible and in some cases unplayable dues to number of things but primarily because they had not been dressed by the grounds crew in several days. A main factor is that this course puts rakes on the carts and not near the bunkers so many folks walk into bunkers without rakes and leave them filled with footprints and such.
The greens were fuzzy whereas they used to be among the best in the city and the tee-blocks quite ragged.
When I mentioned this to the Pro-Shop afterwards I was met with the kind of attitude that screams indifference at best.
I strongly suggest that The Marshes is now an over-priced course in need of new management who can rebuild it and restore it to the place it was and until then is very poor value for the money.
Misty Creek Country Club

Fast, true greens, a lovely setting and great layout make this a fine course and clearly one of the best in the area.
IMG Academy Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2014Don't do it. Go elsewhere.
Very poor greens, average fairways and poor service sum up my trip to IMG.
Vastly overpriced for the product and a waste of a beautiful day for all four in our group.
