The Country Club at Soboba Springs
Played On 01/13/2019Beautiful Course
Course conditions were excellent for this time of the year; fairways were freshly cut and the greens were smooth and fast.
Many holes have either water or staggered fairways bunkers to negotiate off the tee. Fortunately, there are several tees to choose from based on ability.
The greens on the new holes (12 through 16) are firmer and have a little more break than the mature holes.
The course is well worth the drive.
PGA WEST Pete Dye Mountain Course
Played On 12/31/2017One of My Favorites in the Desert
This has to be one of the prettiest courses in the desert. There is water on several holes but it is fairly placed with wide enough landing areas off the tee.
The greens were firm, fast and rolled very well.
The pro shop staff, starter and even the player assistants were very helpful. One of the player assistant's pointed-out the photo-op on the back tee of number 16. It was well worth the walk up the steps!
Mountain View at Callaway Gardens Resort
Played On 04/11/2017Well Worth The Drive!
This classic Dick Wilson design was a joy to play. There are virtually no homes on the course,; just the beautiful forest, lakes and challenging but fair holes to view.
The greens were firm and fast,, rolled well and had little grain to them. Take about a half a club more into most greens because most of them are raised with beautifully-tongued bunkers surrounding them as well. There are a couple of par 5's that I would like to go back and play again (6 & 11) where you have to be careful to avoid the water that is not in full view.
I can see why they played the Buick Open here! You know its a great course when you can still remember all the holes days after playing them.
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
Played On 04/10/2017Good Value
The Chateau course beautifully meanders though the rolling hills and trees. The large mansions lining the course gently frame the holes without encroaching.
There was plenty of challenging water and sand from the 6500 yard tees. I would have given the course 5 stars but the tricky greens were recently top-dressed which made putting difficult. I am sure the greens will be ideal in a couple of weeks.
Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 11/26/2016Worth Playing Again
The course was fun lay-out with some attractive and strategic lakes. The greens rolled very nicely as well.
The fairways were very wide and could actually benefit from some turf-reduction. Desert areas/waste areas would give the fairways some definition and save some water as well!
I also give credit to the friendly starter who gave tips on playing the course before teeing off.
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2015Great Bargain!
The bent greens were exceptionally good. They were in better condition than the far more expensive Golf Club of California or even Maderas...and much easier to read.
The fairways are understandably dry so expect some run-out. The course rewards accurate tee shots on some tighter holes but it also blends in some more open holes as well.
The bunkers appear to be in the process of re-sanding. Some bunkers have new, fluffy sand while others are hard as rock.
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 07/25/2015Beautiful & Challenging Course
Great service from the card attendants to the pro shop. I also love all the high-end touch of iced, bottled water in their new, plush golf carts. The bermuda fairways were impeccable while the greens rolled well but had many subtle breaks.
There is some local knowledge required on a couple of semi-blind tee shots. GPS in the carts would be helpful to determine the distance to water and sand trouble in some of the driving areas, especially on the 18th hole drive where the water is closer than it looks. I would come back sooner if the green fees were a touch less. Overall, it was a fantastic course to play!
Regulation at Marine Memorial Golf Course

This is a real bargain and a hidden gem. There was hardly anyone on the course late afternoon on a Saturday. A nice variety of holes framed by beautiful mature trees and gently rolling hills made the afternoon a delight. I would like to come back and play in the morning just after the greens have been cut for a real sense of how nice the course can be. The kikuyu fairways make for great lies but the kikuyu rough can be challenging.. The pro shop was well stocked and even the cart attendant was friendly and encouraged me to come back.
What a great compliment. Thank you for taking the time to come play and to post about your experience. We hope you are able to come play a round again soon, or try the Lake View Course.
