Humps and bumps

Humps and strange lies everywhere. No doglegs. But any ball short of the greens often led to funky side hill lies on these humps and with strange grippy grass. So our chipping / putting was awful. The greens were very very slow but also hard enough that they wouldn’t hold even a lob wedge.

Needs water!

Nice course but they lost some kind of water rights. So the fairways are totally burned. I mean,,,crusted sand..."West Texas Conditions". The layout is good and the greens are excellent. We enjoyed the round, but playing off scorched earth take a little practice.

This course needs help!!

NIce course, very hilly. Lots of greens up on plateaus, side-hill lies, intimidating tee shots. Greens excellent, very true, speed medium, large greens for a smaller course. But the fairways and tee boxes are in tough shape. There's a fair amount of just plain dirt...no grass, not even dead grass. The cart paths are pretty beat, broken up in some places. Bunkers just hard packed sand, not cared for. So simple maintenance issues are pretty poor. It's a nice course but must be hurting financially?

I paid $60 on a Sunday AM, so can't complain too much.

Kikuyu grass and tight. 10 Handicap, first visit

The kikuyu is REALLY sticky, will grab you club on your irons even in fairways. And Kikuyu brutal around the greens. It took me nine holes to get used to it, and it still cost me strokes chipping. Sometimes the clubs stopped short like a chili dip, sometimes bounced off the grass and sent ball flying twice the expected distance.

First 9 very hilly, hard to see landing areas. Second 9 better, very challenging. Several drives require long carries (over 200 yards) in the 18. Greens good.

Staff sensational. On the driving range an instructor was collecting gear, stopped by and give both my partner and me tips for several minutes. Jim the Starter has been there 55 years! Very cool guys.

We paid $69 with cart and practice balls included. Good deal.

Course 1 flat and has several long par 4's and a couple tough par 3's. Greens smaller than usual. Important to stay in Fairways.

It's an older course, not many special features. It looks open and easy but you need to stay in position out of the trees or you can quickly take a big number. Most holes favor a faded driver. When shooting for the greens, short is always better than over the green. Many greens are tilted (front lower) so stay below the hole. Beware the Barranca (huge water drainage system) that runs through the middle of the course. It's in play as a lateral hazard on 10 holes!
