Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort - Eisenhower Course
Played On 07/05/2015Best value course in Los Angeles
Excellent course. Super green as Industry Hills has its own reclamation system. Paid $55 at 2:10 and played in 4:15 as part of a foursome. Regular Sunday fee is $120. Long. Greens are tough but roll true. Great views of downtown. Sister course Babe is also great and less expensive. Get a deal and treat yourself one time- you won't regret it. Lots of mature trees and narrow fairways. Industry Hills keeps its courses in great shape.
Sierra Star Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2014Beautiful Tough course between the Pines
The course is beautiful. The course is narrow and lined with pine trees. The fairways were in excellent condition, the bunkers had fluffy sand, and the 1st cut was dense bluegrass. The greens were in great shape but run slowly. Although the course is near the base of the Mammoth mountain ski runs, the course itself has little elevation change. The fairways are narrow and creeks and ponds protect some greens. A fairway wood or long iron is a smart play on many par 4s- so of course, I pulled out my driver and whacked the ball into the woods.
The staff is great.
A bear lives on the ninth hole: his den is in the drainage culvert. No joke.
A great time and the views are spectacular.
Tierra Rejada Golf Club
Played On 8/22/2013Best course of the year
Beautiful. Really well maintained. The front nine is the most interesting I have played. Blind tee shots, elevation changes, water, ravines, and views of the west valley. I used irons to tee off on the par 4s. The back nine finishes with the last 6 holes at the bottom so it lacked the drama the previous holes had, but the fairways and greens were great. Even when the elevation change from tee to green was minimal the fairway was undulating and pitching from side to side. So even a fairway shot might have a 4 inch differential up or down from stance to ball placement. The greens were rolling and quick. Overall really challenging. Easily worth my hour drive.
Eagle Glen Golf Club
Played On 06/16/2013Beautiful interesting course
The couse is great. The fairways are in great condition as were the greens. Some tee boxes were shortened as the course is upgrading some areas. I was told the plan is to take a few more months. Didn't matter, course was great. Some blind shots, some wide areas, some narrow. A little course experience will go a long way. I will be playing here again soon. I drove 1 hour to get here from the beach and it was well worth it. Staff was really nice also.
River Place Country Club
Played On 05/16/2013Beautiful terrain, beautiful fairways
Played this course on a visit to Austin and it was well worth hauling my clubs through the airport. The fairways were in great shape, like rolling green carpet. The greens were technically under an aeration warning but the ball rolled true, although slowly. The course is really a country club but allows non-members to play once a month through Golfnow. The staff was super friendly and range balls were free as was coffee.
Black Gold Golf Club
Played On 4/14/2013Best staff in So Cal
I really enjoy this course. As nice and scenic as the layout is, the best thing about Black Gold is the friendliness of the staff. From the restaurant staff to the pro shop to the starter everyone is very nice and helpful. That said the course is beautiful and lush. The greens were in great shape the day I played. How cool is a club that pipes in 70s rock on the driving range?
Champions Club At The Retreat
Played On 4/7/2013Unforgiving nice course
You may hit a shot that is just a little off and you can kiss your ball goodbye. Layout on the first couple of holes is a little silly. Greens were interesting with multiple tiers on almost every hole. Greens look faster than they are. Did pass a coiled up rattlesnake on the cart path on hole 13 and almost had to change my shorts. That perspective helped me calm down and not be that upset about a lost ball. Pace was fine, could have been faster. They seem to not have enough carts- a problem. Range is short and only for irons, drivers not allowed. A straight drive is critical on the course so not being able to practice ahead of time is a drag.
Hidden Valley Golf Club
Played On 3/17/2013Beautiful scenic rolling hills
This place is beautiful. Fairways roll up and down hills and greens are in great shape. Wide fairways make the course a little more forgiving than other desert style courses. No GPS but carts come with a book with a page layout of each hole and strategy (which I realized on the 8th- D'oh!). Many blind shots so the book or a knowledgeable partner is important. Some tiered greens made for tricky putts. Worth the hour drive east. Pace was good, marshal was doing a good job, although I noticed no slow players. A great place.
Victoria Golf Course
Played On 2/17/2013Dirt Fairways - use only for practice.
Unfortunately this might be the worst course in L.A. The fairways are dirt (built on an old landfill so it might be hopeless). I went knowing this and was always moving my ball to any grass. Greens and area around the greens are fair. Sand traps are hard packed. I teed off at 11 am on a Sunday and played the front nine in 1:40 with one other. On the back I had a 4-some in front so I practiced chipping and putting once I got to the green. Done in 4 hours. Paid $22 on Golfnow with cart- about fair. Go for practice and pay little. For golf with friends go elsewhere. Nice people work there.
Skylinks Golf Course
Played On 9/16/2012Great greens, enjoyable course.
Staff is always great. Play gets a little backed up on a Saturday, Sunday is great. Proximity to the coast means nice weather in the summer, not too hot. Greens run faster and truer than most. The practice facilities- range, putting greens, sand & chipping- are great so arrive extra early to work on your game.
Glen Ivy Golf Club
Played On 3/24/2012Beautiful Interesting Couse
The course was nicely varied with flats and hills, water and bunkers. Few trees in the desert except for the orange groves next to the course on the back nine. Played on a Sunday and the pace was great.- only saw the group in front once and the group in back twice. The price if fantastic- I assume because it's inland. Well worth the 55 mile drive from the beach. I am going to play as often as I can before the 100 degree temps hit.
