Legends on the Niagara Golf Course - Chippawa
Played On 05/23/2020Another great day at Chippawa
Note: The off course amenities were not open due to COVID-19. The weather began with a slight rain, otherwise it was perfect. As a couple of recreational golfers we really like this course and play it very often throughout the season. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. They outlined the physical distancing rules well and the course was well set up to comply with the COVID rules. We will be back next week.
Royal Niagara Golf Club - Escarpment Course
Played On 05/20/2020Disappointed Again
This course's potential to be outstanding is very good, but we were disappointed again. About 5 years ago we played this course, expecting it to be in its previously excellent form. We were very disappointed because we loved the course when is was properly taken care of. So last week, after 5 years, we thought we play it hoping it would be as good as it was long ago. Unfortunately, were were disappointed again and I will not play it any more. The greens were in poor condition and very, very slow, the first cut off the fairway was US Open-like. A few of us even lost balls in this unusual long rough. The course needs a major uplift!

The course was quite good and had some very scenic holes. One tee was marked as the "Ladies tee", which my wife found offensive and sexist. We agree the reds should be called the "Front tees.", "Green tees" because some men should be hitting from there and some women are better golfers who play other tees. We also feel that the tee boxes should be based on a person's handicap. For example, front tees 30+, green (or what are referred to as Senior's tees - 25hdcp, white tees, 20hdcp and so on. I should hit from the green tees, which I do.
We definitely would play the course again.,

This was the worst experience I have ever with course management. Although a public course members rule and can bump tee times. There were 4, yes 4, “5 domed” in front of us, a twosome. Although the price was good stay away on Friday’s, Saturday’s & Sunday’s when these member 5 somes play, and they each played 2 balls off the first tee.

We really liked the course and the 2 people who were paired with us. Greens were a bit bumpy, but in good condition for this time of year.
Thank you for the feedback, we will take your comments and pass these along to see if there is anything we can make the appropriate changes. Thank you for the review and we hope to see you again soon.
We are glad that overall you enjoyed your day at Old South Golf Links but regret you were offended by a sign designating the red tee as the ladies tee. The staff does encourage golfers to play the tee that suits their ability and handicap. The sign in question is intended to keep play moving by giving directions to the forward tee. Since this sign was originally placed over 22 years ago it is time to update. We hope to see you back for another round soon.
