Quarry Ridge Golf Course
Played On 04/15/2024This is a must play course
Played here yesterday and it took longer than usual as the course was wet and it was cart path only. Anytime it is cart path only - particularly at a challenging course like Quarry Ridge - it will end up being a little longer round...which brings me to the issue of playing the correct tees. If you are not a single digit handicap, play the white tees at this course as it will keep play moving and you will enjoy the course that much more. This is a fabulous golf course with beautiful vistas and many holes that require you to shape your shots if you want to score well. Overall, this is one of my top five golf courses in the state in relation to challenge, price, vistas and excellent service from the pro shop to all of the maintenance workers on the course.
The North at Goodwin Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2015On the come-back-trail!
Between Goodwin and Keney (which has yet to open), these courses are very sentimental to me as I learned how to play golf on both.
Having seen both courses deteriorate to practically "dirt," no pun intended, I was heartbroken.
Now, Goodwin is in perhaps the best shape I have ever seen in my nearly 30 years of golfing. The green are fairly fast, true and in great shape. The tee-boxes need some TLC, but they are addressing that issue now.
Also, the fairways are mowed tight and are excellent - especially compared to a few years ago.
Finally, there are maintenance workers everywhere; in fact, they are actually planting flowers!!!
I will continue to play this course as often as I can to support and enjoy this once beautiful course/park again in the city of Hartford!
Blackledge Country Club - Gilead Highlands
Played On 07/04/2015Head Pro, Kevin Higgins, does it right!
Both Gilead and Anderson Glen are fantastic tracks that are well-maintained and quite challenging. The greens are medium size, and the ball runs true & fast. The tee boxes and fairways are mowed tight and there are no bad lies anywhere in the fairways.
I highly recommend that you play either, or both, courses at some point this season.
Great job, Kevin!
Port Royal Golf Course
Played On 01/14/2015Instant favorite!!!
I've played golf now for about 27 years and played well over 150 during those years. I have played on some spectacular course through the years, but never anything quite like Port Royal. The condition of the course was PERFECT, the greens ran true and fast, tee boxes, fairways and sand bunkers all professional- like. After getting on the eighth green, a par five, the view was absolutely breathtaking! This was the hole were Port Royal became my ALL TIME FAVORITE COURSE - INSTANTANEOUSLY - HANDS DOWN!!! The back nine is just something you must experience one time before you die or give-up the game for good. Also, getting the Hot Deal from GolfNow.com for just about half price was a deal that I think was a STEAL!!! Also, DO NOT forget to bring a camera or you will be sorry!!!
Mill Valley Country Club
Played On 11/09/2014Very challenging course
After reading many reviews on Golfnow.com about their bad experiences with the staff here at Mill Valley, I must admit I was a bit hesitant when going into the pro shop.
Unlike many of the reviews, the pro was very friendly and quite helpful. In fact, we got there early and he let us go off right away.
The course is in very good condition - especially the greens - and was a difficult, yet fair test of golf.
I will definitely come back next year when it's warm and not quite so cold.
I strongly recommend this course to all golfers as this course will make you use all of the clubs in your bag and test your putting skills on greens that are big, fast and undulating.
PS - It's a "family owned" course that makes it even more special as too many courses these days are "corporate-like" in nature.
Westover Golf Club
Played On 11/05/2014No bad holes!!!
My brother and I played the course on Wednesday, 11/5/14, and had a fantastic time. My brother, who's a very good golfer (3.3), was very, very impressed with the condition and layout of the course. We played from the back tees and found it to be very challenging - yet very fair.
Furthermore, the green fees are very fair - especially considering the condition of the course.
My brother and I plan on playing the course many, many more times next year.
Tower Ridge Country Club
Played On 09/08/2014Private course for public play
The greens are fast, true and very well kept. Also, the fairways are lush and there is never a bad lie. And for the money, there is no better deal around.
This is a must play!
North Ridge Golf Club
Played On 08/29/2014INCREDIBLE GOLF COURSE!!!
I usually play this course at least two or three times a year, but haven't played it until today and what a SURPRISE I got!!! The golf course was BETTER than most private courses I have ever played on!!!
The fairways were lush with no bad lies at all. The greens were PERFECT; fast and true with no pitch marks like a lot of public courses I've played.
I will be back as many times as I can before the season ends.
THIS COURSE IS A "MUST" PLAY!!!
Laurel View Country Club
Played On 08/10/2014Concrete fairways
The last time I played this course (1988), I recall it being in good shape with green fairways, etc. However, the fairways were as hard as the roads I drove on to get to the course! Ironically enough, the greens were in very nice shape. Both my friend and I decided to have some fun with the conditions; we hit some drives that were well over 300 yards and actually putted from 100 yards out that made the greens!!! It was fun but I won't go back anytime soon. If they put some money into the fairways, it is a very nice golf course. Too bad...
Richter Park Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014Fantastic golf course!
The last time I played this course (over 20 years ago) and it was a "great disappointment" as it didn't live-up to its billing.
However, this time was completely different.
The course was in incredible shape! The fairways were perfect and the greens ran true and fast. We played with a guy from Westchester, NY who plays there regularly and told us that they put a lot of time, money and TLC to bring back the course to its "sterling" reputation.
Although the price was steep (even with GolfNow.com), you've got to play this course at least once a year to understand and appreciate how public golf course "should be kept" - at all times!!!
As the Terminator says, "I'll be back!!!"
Gillette Ridge
Played On 06/22/2014Disappointed
There was a time, about 7 years ago, when this was one of the top 5 public courses in the state. Now, it's a "shell of its former self."
And, I have "never" seen anyone working on the course in the last 6 or 7 years!!!
If things keep moving in this direction, I don't see a future for this course.
Our apologies for your disappointment during your round. Please contact me directly for a make-up promo code so you can come back and see how great Gillette Ridge really is! nikkiteetimes@gmail.com
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2014Beautiful vistas, excellent condition
Played with fiancée (it was her first time) on an incredibly beautiful day. The views from some of the holes are enough to make you want to take pictures, that you forget about playing the game!
However, the course is in such pristine shape, that you wish you could just play all day until dark! If you have the game, play from the black tees as you will see the course in its entirety.
Although pricey, this is a "MUST" play course at least once a year. Have fun!!!
Quarry Ridge Golf Course
Played On 8/28/2013The course had some of the best vistas in the state! Would love to play in the fall with all of the leaves turning different colors
Two of my friends played here for the first time and were very impressed with the layout, condition and beautiful. We played the black tees which were about 6,400 and played all of that. If you don't keep the ball in the fairways, it could be a long day. The course is fair and not tricked-up. Also, considering the amount of rain we have had this year which has burnt-out most courses, this one has not. Kudos to the superintendent! I would recommend this course to any of my golf buddies who like a challenge on a course that is in fantastic condition.
Glad you and your friend had some fun during your round. Our apologies for some of the conditions of the fairways so please contact me directly for a make up promo code at carlyteetimes@gmail.com
