About

Like most golfers I have my good and bad days but I enjoy the challenge of trying to get better. I'm learning to not stress over bad shots, they are part of being a 11 handicap, and focus on the goal which is to get the ball in the hole. I travel quite a bit in my job and play golf all over GA, SC, and NC. I enjoy playing lots of different courses and meeting other people who, like me, love this great game.

Watch out for those bunkers

Good course for the money. Overall in very good shape. Fairways, tee boxes all very nice. Rough was really long in many places making it difficult to find and play your ball. The greens were in excellent shape and very quick. My only negative about this course is the bunkers. While they looked raked they were very hard. Also it appears that they are filled with more dirt than sand. It took a few attempts to figure out how to play out of them. Overall a good value for the money.

A gem in Eastern North Carolina

This was my second time playing Cutter Creek. I last played it about 4 years ago. This course is in GREAT shape, from the tee boxes to the fairways to the greens, which are very quick I might add. The rough is tough but not unplayable. This course has a nice variety of holes with long par 4's and short ones also that give you some options. The staff and the locals were very friendly. Being from Georgia I am used to golf courses with a lots of hills. This course is pretty flat but can play very difficult depending on the wind. I can't wait to play here again on my next visit to the area.

I found a jewel.

Loved this course. I usually play Apple Mtn when I'm in this area but this time I decided to try The Orchard and I'm glad I did. The course was in excellent shape including the greens. It is very open on most of the holes with nice fairways and rough that you could play out of. Nice layout with some fantastic views. My only negative was that my cart almost didn't make it around the hilly course and I ended up having to get a little push from a fellow golfer. All in all a great golfing experience.

Disappointed with course conditions

This was my first time playing here and I had an image in my mind that this course was super nice. It was ok but not great. The greens were a little Sandy and slow and the Fairways were VERY soggy, lots of plugged balls. It was a good deal since I was able to cash in a golfnow.com rewards but considering that this course is an hour drive and there are several other courses that are much closer and just as nice for less I don't see myself playing this course again any time soon.

Take some extra balls!

I played this course twice while on vacation, once on Sunday and again on Friday. The course was in great shape! Pace of play was very good both days at just over 3 hours. The carts are equipped with GPS and even if you have your own, as I did, utilize the cart GPS to identify landing areas for your tee shots. There is lots of trouble out there. The second time I played I kept the driver in the bag for most of the round and shaved several strokes off my previous score. Avoid the bunkers. The sand is very soft and a ball hit into a bunker from any height is likely to plug. I will certainly play there again next year.

Good to play here again.

This is the first time I've played this course in a couple of years. I played Orchard/Rock Garden. Greens were in very good shape as we're the chipping areas on most of the holes. Fairways were also in good shape although a few of them needed mowing. I can't wait to play here again.

Watch the golf carts

This course is a really good value. Overall condition was good with a few problem areas in the fairways and around the greens. Some of the greens had a good bit of poanna in them which caused them to be bumpy, especially number 2. I had a problem with my golf cart on the front nine so I switched out carts at the turn. I didn't notice it had standing water in the compartment on the driver's side and placed my phone along with some other items in the compartment only to have them ruined. I notified the pro shop and they were like "oh well". Pace of play was great - just under 3 hours.

Right in front of you

I'd played this course once before but it had been a couple of years. Greens were in good shape except for a lot of unrepaired divots. Course was in good shape-pretty good grass in the fairways and around greens. I shot my low round of the years-77. I will definitely be back!

Glad I gave this course another look

This is the first time I've played this course since the city of Canton took it over and I loved it. I played the blue tees and even though it's only 6,000 yards it's still plenty challenging. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled nicely. Most of the greens are two tiered and are really quick if you're putting downhill. Good grass for chipping around the greens. I've been playing a lot at Callahan but I will move some of those rounds to this course. The overall conditions, grass in the fairways and around the greens, is better. The staff is very friendly. Pace of play was good We played in just under 4 hours on a Friday afternoon. I can't wait to play here again.

This course plays true to it's name

I enjoyed my round at Towne Lake Hills. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The greens had just been aerated so it was hard to judge them but the rest of the course was in good shape. Challenging but fair.

Very hilly course.

This was the first time I've played this course. I was looking for something different in the area. It is an interesting course with a nice variety of holes but extremely hilly and I'm not a big fan of hilly golf courses. Even when you hit the fairways you have a good chance of having a quirky lie. Lots of shots into the greens that are anywhere from 1 to 2 clubs uphill. Bermuda greens were in good shape with lots of subtle bumps and curves-very challenging if you put yourself in the wrong spot.

Nice course. I'm glad I played here again.

This was my second time playing this couse. It was in good shape. I was running late and called the pro shop and they were very nice and I was able to get on with no problem and played in less than 3 1/2 hours which is very good for a Friday afternoon. The greens were in good shape. The grain on the Bermuda greens is definitely a factor when reading putts.

Good course for the money

This was the first time I've played The Chimneys in a couple of years and except for the slow play really enjoyed it. I like the layout and variety of holes. I played from the back tees for the first time here and while it made for some challenging tee shots on a couple of holes requiring a long carry I liked the angle from the back tees better. The course is in very good shape and the greens putted good, but a little slow. I'm not a fan of high, thick rough which this course has, especially around the greens. I don't know why so many courses insist on letting their rough grow so much. They may want to use the summer rain as an excuse but I don't buy it since I play other courses that keep their rough at a reasonable height. This is definitely a contributor to the slow play on this course. I played as a single and ended up playing with another single and we were constantly waiting to play because the two groups ahead of us were hacking it up and playing at a snails pace. My partner and I complained to the marshal and were told that the pace of the groups was acceptable at just over 4 hours and did nothing to speed up play or get the other groups to let us play through. That was very disappointing and made it difficult to stay in any kind of rhythm.

Very nice course

I have been wanting to play Oak Mountain for quite a while and finally got the chance and was not disappointed. The course was in very good shape, especially the greens. They putted great! My only complaint was the rough, especially around the greens. If you missed the green it could take several minutes to find your ball in the deep rough and when you did finally find it playing out of the deep rough was very difficult.

Interesting course that didn't live up to it's reviews

I'm always looking to play new courses so I booked at tee time at Royal Lakes when I was in the area after reading several glowing reviews. I was disappointed to find thin and dry grass in several of the fairways which is surprising considering the amount of rain we've received in Atlanta this summer. The rough was very high in many places, especially around the greens making it difficult to find and play your ball. I usually play tees (usually blue) from 6400 to 6500 yards. The blue tees were 6600 so I played the white tees at 6200 yards which made for some uncomfortable tee shots. I should have played the blue tees. I played as a single and played through several groups-they were all very nice- and still played in less than 3 hours.

Nice Layout

I travel quite a bit in Charlotte and have played different courses around the city but this was my first time playing Rocky River. In spite of all the excess rain the course was in really good shape. The Bermuda greens rolled well-actually I expected them to be a little quicker than they were. Nice variety of holes. Tough but not unfair. I did a double take when I got to the tee box on number 3 and saw a rock the size of a house in the middle of the fairway. Very interesting. The staff was very nice for the most part. The starter was abupt and bossy at first but softened up as I talked with him. I played as a single and played through a couple of groups and everyone was very nice and friendly. I will definitely look to play here again. I don't see myself paying their daily rate of $49 but you can get the next time I'm in Charlotte I'll be looking for a deal on Golfnow for Rocky River.

This may be my new favorite course in Atlanta

I've heard good things about Wolf Creek from other golfers but didn't get a chance to play here until recently and I loved it. The course is challenging but fair. The staff is VERY nice. Even with the excessive rain in Atlanta this summer the course was in very good shape. The rough was a little long in places-I imagine the maintenance staff has had a hard time keeping up with the mowing with all the rain-penal but playable. The rough around the greens was a little too long in my opinion. Greenside pitch shots and chips were very difficult. Also, with all the recent rains the bunkers weren't in great shape. All in all a very nice course for the money. Tough course with some long par fours but also some shorter holes and some good birdie opportunities. I was surprised to see bent grass greens that far south but they were in good shape and putted nicely.

This course is coming along.

I used to play this course regularly because I could get a great rate on golfnow but I stopped because it had fallen into pretty bad shape. It's not great, but it is getting better. The recently aerated greens were coming back nicely and the overall condition of the course is getting better except for the bunkers. Most of them were pretty awful. Some of them didn't have rakes. It is a challenging but fair layout.

Good course with nice variety of holes.

This course was a great deal. I've played other courses in the Statesville area but this one is the best course for the money I've played in this area. The greens had been recently aerated so it was hard to judge them. The rough was not too penal. I especially liked the green areas-plenty of grass to chipp off of. I will definitely play here again next time I'm in this area.
