Shawneeki Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2023Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 11/06/2022Excellent considering the time of year!
I took the chance and booked a deeply discounted non-refundable, prepaid hot deal a week ahead of time, and got lucky with the weather!
It had been several years since I have been 'slayed by the dragon' ;)
For what I paid, it was a fantastic deal, but the regular rate is too high IMO for the time of year; However, I understand it's a supply and demand situation and the demand is definitely there, but $80 is just too much to pay in November to play just about anywhere.
All that said, considering that it was Nov. 8th, it was amazing to get out, and the conditions were exceptional (again, considering the date). The greens had been aerated some time ago, but had mostly recovered and were rolling pretty true....and fast!
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2019What a shame...
I haven't played at Indian Wells for several years (for no particular reason).
It's really a beautiful setting- especially at this time of year, and while the course isn't long, it requires precise shot making. You won't hit a lot of drivers here.
Here's the really unfortunate thing....the front 9 moved a long nicely and we finished in just over 2 hours but then (for whatever reason) it came to a grinding halt on the 10th tee box and took over 3 hours to play the back! The marshal came by on the 14th tee box and when we mentioned how slow it was, he told us there were no open holes, it was just a 'slow day'.
I'm sorry, 5 hours and 20 minutes is just WAY TOO LONG for a round of golf!
I read about someone's very similar experience yesterday before I played, and then I lived it today!
Whatever is happening out there it needs to be fixed. What a frustrating day at an otherwise beautiful golf course.
I don't intend to return any time soon.
Flamborough Hills Golf and Country Club - Hills/Woods
Played On 09/16/2018Enjoyable
Have played here several times but have not been here in a couple of years.
I always enjoy the layout and the conditions are always good.
The course was extremely busy today and I was expecting a very long day, but it moved extremely well, and we finished in just under 4 hours.
Boulder Creek Golf Club - Coyote Run/Eldorado Valley
Played On 12/28/2017Beautiful
Absolutely loved this track. Not overly difficult, but spectacular scenery. Very well maintained, excellent place of play. Loved it!
Wyldewood Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/29/2017Really enjoy this course
3rd time playing here. It was a cool but beautiful late fall day. The fairways are soft, and the greens still firm and fast. The slopes of greens can be fairly subtle, and tricky and it doesn't require much of a mistake to leave yourself a lengthy 2nd putt.
Lots of interesting holes with some elevation changes, but a nice course to walk.
Lowville Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2017Sunny and 23* on Oct. 22nd!
I've heard so many positive things about Lowville, and have wanted to play here for many years, but it just never came to be until this weekend, and what a perfect weekend it was for late October!
The fall colours in full bloom, and breathtaking views from the many elevations.
Some course knowledge should be helpful for a future round here as the greens are treacherous if you miss them in the wrong spot. Lots of undulations, and just subtle slopes that baffled me most of the day!
There are some sever drop offs on fairways, that we were surprised to find out about after hitting what we thought were decent shots. Again, we'll know better for next time, otherwise, there is generally a fair amount of room for the slight mis-fires. Lots of fun!
Granite Ridge Golf Club - Cobalt
Played On 04/14/2017Early Season - Very Wet
It's early in the year, so the conditons (while very soggy) were pretty decent overall, but the pace of play was awful! 5.5 hours!
Starter was in a BIG hurry to get people going off the 1st tee, but there was NO SIGN of anyone beyond that pushing people along.
Longest round in at least a decade for me.
Been a long time since I played here, and I won't be back any time soon because of it
Royal Woodbine Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2016Goose droppings spoil the finish
I love the layout of this course, and the greens are undulating, but smooth.
I was disappointed that there was a new practice green that is not yet ready, so there is absoluterly no place to warm up any part of your game.
I understand that there simply is no land for anything much more than a putting green, but a course of this caliber should invest in a couple of cages so that a player could at least get a few full swings in beforehand.
The finishing hole is excellent, unfortunately it is somewhat spoiled by the sheer number of geese and droppings from the approach area.
There was quite literally hardly room for the ball to sit on a patch of grass without touching it. It's that bad.
A couple of swans swimming around would not only add to the beauty, but rid the area of the geese, that really do take away from an otherwise beautiful finishing hole.
On a bit of a sid-note. We spotted 2 deer on 2 seperate occcasions crossing the course, which wsas lovely, but that was followed by coming around a blind corner on the cart path to come nearly face to face with a coyote, that was probably looking to spoil the day for those deer. It was a bit nervous for a few seconds , but I got a 3 iron ready just in case, and he decided to move on. ;)
Chippewa Creek Golf and Country Club - Red Falcon/Gold Eagle
Played On 08/23/2015Great Value
It had been several years since I`d played here, and I`m not sure why. Chippewa is great value for the money. Greens are average speed, but very smooth, and true. Layout is interesting, but fairly forgiving. A few green-side bunkers need some attention, they were more like waste areas because they had such little sand, but the overall conditions were very respectable.
Poor rating for the F&B because I held off going into the clubhouse between 9`s for a sandwich, or hotdog, preferring to keep moving and give the business to the snack cart girl. She came by on the 11th hole and had nothing but chips and chocolate bars. The course was extremely busy so there is no excuse not to have the cart well stocked - she made no offer to go stock up and come back.
BraeBen Golf Course - Championship
Played On 05/08/2015Wind always BLOWS!
A cart is needed not only because of the elevation changes, but there are a lot of blind tee shots, so you need to drive ahead to take a look until you've played it a few times.
This course is NOT for the first timers! Always tons of wind, BIG, DEEP, Bunkers, and BIG, undulating, FAST, greens. Although, being a little early in the season because of the relentless winter, the greens were not quite up to their usual quality through no fault of the course. Overall, it was in excellent condition, as usual. It only plays 5800 yards from the Blues, but don't be fooled - that's more than enough of a challenge for the average weekend golfer with this layout, and the ever present wind
Hidden Lake Golf Club - New Course
Played On 05/03/2015I'll be back
I've played the old course a couple of times in the past, but this was our first time on the New. It was still early in the season with the late winter, so the greens had been aerated and top-dressed several days prior to us playing. The front nine had almost fully recovered but the back 9 was a bit bumpy and slower. (Probably a good thing being only my second outing of the year). I can see them being lightning fast the next time I visit! They were also quite undulating. The fescue hadn't grown in yet, so, again, the conditions were a little more forgiving in that respect.Overall, it's a somewhat forgiving layout, but very pretty, and interesting. We played in under 4 hours on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoon. Remarkable!
Settlers' Ghost Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2014love the layout
This course is always in excellent shape. Greens had just been aerated, but that's fall golf. They're generally very fast and true
Victoria Park East Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2014Hadn't played here for years!
I played this course several times, several years ago. I'm not exactly sure why I haven't been there in 12-13 years, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it!
Nothing has changed - the fairways are lush and soft, greens are fast and true, layout is interesting, but forgiving.
I rode in a cart only because the golf now deal included it, but it is a very walkable course.
The only minimal complaint (which is no fault of their own) is that there is still some remnants of winter kill on a few of the greens, but they have recovered dramatically, and are at a point that the few spots remaining have little affect on putting.
I'm going back to play again soon!
Simoro Golf Links
Played On 06/22/2014Incredible Value
I first played this course about 3 years ago, and now I play it a couple (or 3 ) times per year now. I always play early in the morning, and the pace is excellent. Most holes are quite forgiving, although the back nine is much more tree-lined where accuracy is important The greens were in particularly good condition this time. Simoro is a hidden gem, that for the money, is one of the best values you'll find.
Staff is always friendly and accommodating
Knollwood Golf Club - New
Played On 05/25/2014Probably won't go back
It's not that I feel ripped off or anything, but this course just lacks much in the way of conditioning.
Fairways are lacking grass in many areas, there are several 'dummy' holes (in my opinion),
Example: The short par 4 ,6th hole - I left my t-shot in the MIDDLE of the fairway wih 80 yards to the centre of green, and I have a 60+ foot tree to go over directly between me and the pin.
The 3rd hole is another example of a hole that if you're not exactly in the middle of the fairway, you are laying up due to the need to practically thread a needle to get to the green.
The greens were too slow for my liking, and the overall conditions were just not great.
Having said that.....I paid $40 including cart, so it was definitely a fair value for the $, but there are just too many other courses at a not to different rate that are much more favourable.
** Note: I absolutely LOVE the old barn converted into the proshop/restaurant!
Lakeview Golf Course
Played On 04/27/2014Worst conditions I've ever played - anywhere
I hadn't played this course in about 6 years, but decided to take advantage of a low spring rate on Golf Now. The harsh winter was not kind to Lakeview! Every single green and tee box is virtually dead , and top dressed with sand. I'll be interested to see if they actually come back to a playable condition later in the season. I'm no horticulturist, but it sure didn't look promising. I was told that it was because they are "Poa" grass rather than the more durable "bent grass". Again, it would seem to me that in a climate like this, why would you use that type of grass ?
If you're considering this course later in the season, I'd suggest calling ahead to inquire about conditions
Empire Ranch Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2012late in year
It was near end of Dec. so the course was understandably not in mid season condition. The back 9 is the much more interesting of the 2.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 9/23/2012what happened to the greens?
This has been a long time favorite of mine, but something has attacked the greens, they are badly pock-marked, and just not in good shape. Otherwise the course is well maintained
Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 8/20/2012Love it
Excellent course with many elevation changes. Power cart is almost a must. Greens fast and true
Thank you very much for reviewing us! We’ll hopefully have the new practice green ready for your next round, and we share your frustration regarding the limited warm up space. Our local wildlife can occasionally prove frustrating so far as upkeep is concerned – we’ll have to look into the idea of swans on the course! Please let us know immediately if you feel threatened by any animals you encounter while out on the course, as your safety and security is important to us. We look forward to seeing you again!
