Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
Played On 5/27/2013Another Great Tom Fazio Course
This is my all time favorite course in California - yes it is in Upton California just on the California side of the State Line. The Casino has a great deal for a Stay and Play. I play here twice a year with my brother who lives in Nevada. If you haven't played here, you are in for a treat. The layout is typical Tom Fazio without the high price. Every hole is challenging and equally a site to see. The conditions are always exceptional and the price is affordable - a bargain - when you can say Fazio designed. The staff is always super friendly. They remembered the last time I played here and brought my son along. That's special. I know it's in California, but whenever I am asked what's your favorite Vegas course (and I have been asked this often) - I always say its Primm Valley and Rio Seco.
Azusa Greens Country Club
Played On 5/25/2013Another good round and score.
A buddy of mine and I decided to play here instead of El Prado this weekend. We got on at 3pm. - first twilight. The front nine was very slow since a lot of golfers had the same idea and we are a fast twosome. We still managed and the time wasn't all that bad. On the turn we were able to join up with another twosome and flew through the back nine - the flow was much better. My buddy and I played the front again in less than an hour and 15 min. 27 holes. If I counted the back nine and the 2nd front nine - six over. 27 holes in 12 over is not bad (it helps to have a birdie or two). We were both happy about Azusa Greens' conditions, the staff was very friendly, and the gas and time savings of not driving to Chino on the holiday weekend was another 'plus'. This place is a good value for the money. If you are expecting country club pristine conditions, save the effort and head over to Trump National (great course); if you are looking for a nice round of golf on a much improved course with nice greens and bunkers, give it a try. Another buddy is sold on this place.
Rancho Duarte Golf Club
Played On 5/5/2013Billy Bell Designed Small Wonder
The same father/son golf course design duo had its hand in this wonderful little gem. I play here at least 20 times a year - my short game stays sharp because of it. I am always happy with the conditions. Alex the head pro and course manager is very welcoming and very helpful. The last time I played here, I met three of my associates and we had brunch and played a quick round in under an hour and a half. I think this is the only place to have your standard breakfast with Mediterranean food at the same time - try it. Compared to the other par 3 courses in the area, this one stands out. Grass tee boxes, drivable par 4s, excellent greens, good food, good value, nice staff, and a very nice practice facility says it all. I'm still waiting for my hole in one on hole one!
Azusa Greens Country Club
Played On 4/25/2013Much Improved Conditions.
If you haven't played here in a while, you are in for a nice surprise. After playing today, I called my buddies and we are playing here this weekend. The nice thing for me is that I don't have to drive far this weekend to play golf. Most of the time, I have to drive up to 35 miles away to play golf with my buddies.
The Greens are in great shape, the Sand is consistent to high end courses, the tee boxes and fairways are much improved. Golf Carts are new as well. Clubhouse staff is very friendly. We didn't wait much at any tee - 9 and 10 had a little wait. Food at the turn was tasty, fast and affordable. Off the fairways can be sandy or rough, but getting it back into play is not an issue. I enjoy the size of the fairways - you need more precision and less bomber mentality. But, there are fairways that are generous as well.
I will be playing here more often. The old saying, if you can score at Azusa Greens, you can score anywhere, still holds true. The good news is that the conditions are better than ever.
