Deer Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2020Nothing special
The course is fine, but having played other courses nearby recently (Balmoral and Tuckaway) this course didn't stand out. It is mostly flat. It was in decent condition. The greens were fine. I just was unmemorable. Great value for weekend but I won't be back.
Coyote Run Golf Course
Played On 05/15/2020Exceeds expectations
When you sign up for a round this cheap you aren't expecting much, but Coyote Run is great value. The course is in immaculate conditions right now. The greens roll very true. The first few holes are pretty basic but after that the course has some interesting holes. It is definitely not difficult but just a very fair course.
Countryside Golf Club - Prairie Course
Played On 05/13/2020My Augusta National
This course is just fun! Yes it is wide open which makes it not the most challenging but it is still an average length course and you still have to make your putts. Every hole is birdieable but there are still bunkers and water that could punish you. The greens roll perfectly fine, and the fairways are always in great condition. This is my favorite course to play.
Balmoral Woods Country Club
Played On 05/12/2020Hidden gem
This course is a lot of fun. Fairways and greens are in good shape. There are some big hills which makes it difficult to walk right now, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Also this course gets bonus points from me because I booked two tee times to play 36 at the normal golfnow rate, but they gave me the replay rate when I went for the second round.
The Woodlands Course at Whittaker
Played On 05/03/2020So much potential
This could be a very special course but the maintenance was awful. I'm not sure if it was because of the pandemic or if that is just what their normal maintenance is like but it really ruins what could be a fantastic course. There are a bunch of holes that go through the woods and it is a lot of fun, also beautiful. The layout is entertaining, and would easily be worth the hour 15 minute drive from Chicago if the course was in ok conditions but it is not. The fairways are pretty torn up, but that is nothing compared to the greens. They were the slowest greens I have ever played on. You literally could not go long.
