Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2017Keeps getting better but why so slow?
End in Oct. and we were 90 degree rule on fairways. Nice! It was a Tuesday , 9:30 ish tee time.
Grass in fairways was longish, but they were cutting it. This is not typical.
Greens were perfect, fast for the season.
Course layout is forgiving and fun. I walk as much as I can, tee to green.
Carts have gps which was out of sync with my Garmin on occasion so be careful.
Price was around $40, so good value.
One small complaint, the cups on some greens were almost flush to the green. I had a dead center putt bounce right back at me as it fell. Need more attention to detail guys.
One major complaint, almost five hours to play a golf course where you never look for balls is NOT acceptable. The group in front of us was 3 full holes behind. They were out for fun, I have no problem with that, but move it or let people through. 4 guys and 3 sets of clubs??? Never seen that before.
So get a Marshall or I won’t be back
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 11/02/2015Good value course
Always decent shape and good value. If you want scenery not for you. Staff are great.
Four Peaks Course at Sunland Springs Village
Played On 01/04/2015Fun place to start
My wife was rehabbing a shoulder so we picked a course that offers 9 hole walking rates. The 9 we played is easiest of the 3. Nice walk and greens were in perfect condition. The pace of play was perfect, under 1.5 hours for 9 holes , walking.
(The way it should be). 3 par fours, 1 par 5 allowed us to hit all our clubs. Course is perfect for beginners, or those needing a live swing test or anyone that wants to have fun!
Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 11/14/2014Always a good value
At this course it's all about the greens. 3 puts are common place as greens have huge slopes-humps-.
Only complaint is that no walking rate is offered!
Las Colinas Golf Club
Played On 03/21/2014Great value
Greens are the heart of this golf course.
They are very undulating, but were in perfect condition and not so fast as to be frustrating.
Not too much trouble in the way of bunkers or water, but enough to be interesting.
This is the best value in and around Queen Creek.
I would play again and recommend.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 03/18/2014Fast paced muni
Course was fine, in good condition, some decent views and very friendly and attentive staff. Also played in under 4 hours which is always a bonus. They offer a walking rate which we did not take advantage of. I suspect the pace if play has something to do with the rates. $80 for this course is out of line with the market.
Wailea Golf Club - Gold Course
Played On 02/24/2014Gold worth the wait
I waited a long time to play the gold course and when it showed up as a hot deal I jumped on it. Reminded me some of the Makena courses. Great views, lots of elevation changes. This is not an easy golf course so pick the right tee box. Greens were Bermuda grass, so hard to read. I can't wait to go back!
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 01/31/2014Ahwatukee CC was full
Course conditions were OK, staff was trying to be helpful. Busiest day of the year. 3 hours to play 10 holes, eventually enough people quit to speed up play and allow us to finish before dark. Still 5+ hours on a course where no one ever has to search for a golfball? Instead of overloading the course, please just charge more , everyone would enjoy it more.
Otherwise a C+ course in a housing development in January in average condition, looking very old.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 01/21/2014worth the drive
very nice golf course, worth the drive and very good value.
Poston Butte Golf Club
Played On 01/05/2014Poston Butte again
Good quality Nicklaus course, with Troon Management so no bad surprises.
We followed some kind of local tourney so pace was a little off. Its a long drive from Phoenix so once is enough. For the money The Bear in Chandler is a better deal.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 01/03/2014Longbow at its best/worst
This is a very nice golf course, no homes on the course which is a real treat. Always in great shape. We have played it many times and always enjoyed it. Its best when the bobcats come out to play. On this day we were before a tournament, looked like high school / college and the flag positions were in the "ridiculous" positions. So very long day and somewhat frustrating for avg. golfers. Its not usually like this and in my opinion they should have warned the players. First green saw the putts roll off the green if hole was missed, we finally just picked up and left the hole.
Lone Tree Golf Club
Played On 1/23/2013Nice course. good condition, very good facility.
Traditional golf course community course in the SW tradition. ( think Foothills, McCormick). First of all the facility is first rate. Clubhouse , practice range, putting, chipping, sand trap. Friendly staff , especially the starter, get you started and organized. ( my wife and I were first timers). Course is well marked for yardage and they have on cart GPS. ( while nice it mainly slows down play in my opinion)
Fairways and greens were in good shape. The rough had not been overseeded. Good selection of tee boxes for all playing levels. Nice mixture of trees , water and sand keep this course very interesting. False fronts to greens make it harder than it looks. This is a pre-qualifying course for PHX open so you know it has its subtleties. Booked on golfnow as a "hot deal" the course was overpriced At $70. Use the course online booking to get best deal.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 1/3/2013Troon course, VG condition, country club style fairways, tough undulating greens.
Up to Troon standards. I play as often as I can. This is a traditional country club style course, tree lined fairways and tough undulating greens. Very good condition. (Jan). Different tees give challenge to all levels, without being intimidating to high handicappers. Lots of water on gold/blue couse. Houses never come into play which I like. Good practice / warm up center. Full range, putting greens, no bunker /chipping .
Friendly staff, beverage cart, drinking water, and washrooms.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 12/12/2012Resort style course, in Troon condition. Grab it on hot deals everytime.
Our favorite place to play in South PHX. Whirlwind -Cattail is the easier of the two courses but very enjoyable. Desert style, but not "target" golf. Fast greens, in typical great "Troon" shape. Relatively flat course. Lots of sand, enough water and trees to make it a good test. Great practice area includes range, bunker/chipping and putting areas. Friendly staff through the pro-shop, beverage cart , starter and restaurant bar . This is a higher end Troon course so can be pricey, but if its on "hot deals" grab it!!!
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/5/2012Shorter course, great staff, no driving range.
Very friendly staff greet you. No driving range or warm up area. There is putting and chipping greens. Shorter course in decent shape. I played in Dec. slow pace of play considering you never have to search for a ball. It priced about right .
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 11/29/2012Good value, good condition, easy to walk, fun to play
Wide open golf course is an easy walk and fun to play.
Little rough and sparse growth between holes makes it difficult to lose a ball. Trees and bunkers are strategically placed, so you must hit it straight to score well.
They have recently added GPS to carts which makes up for lack of distance markers.
Greens were in great shape for late Nov.
Staff was friendly and cooperative. Pace of play was good. They have a F&B cart and halfway house.
Overall much improved.
