By far best public course in Clermont

Greens were excellent, and fairways and tee boxes were way above average. The rough needs time to catch up, as to get the course opened they needed to focus on those first. The sand traps are inconsistent, as they went more for the aesthetic of lots of white sand - so you can get a really lumpy lie or easily have a fried egg if you hit into a trap from distance. My biggest concerns are the lack of rangers (for both slow play and to ensure people rake traps, don't drive carts where they aren't supposed to, etc.) and no beverage cart/the slowness of getting a drink/snack at the turn. My understanding is the beverage cart is supposed to be addressed.

Overall, the other options in the immediate area pale in comparison. Sure - you could pay twice as much (or more) and try and get on at Bella Collina, or you could pay a little less and get on other local courses. But for my money, Legends is by far the best public course and option outside of Orange County within 20 miles of Clermont. I am more than happy playing here versus driving 30 minutes or more to play courses like Deer Island or Mission Inn.

Horrible playing conditions

Green Valley is typically in decent shape, but they apparently have been having well/pump issues and haven't been watering (at least not the front). Then they punched the greens, but it looks like they must have also sprayed them and killed a bunch of grass. The green were pretty much nothing but sand and weeds, and I would estimate the putting surfaces cost players a minimum of 6-8 strokes. Tee boxes and fairways are poor, but the greens are honestly unplayable. Given the conditions of the greens, I would close the course until they recover - and I expect that is still several weeks from now. I played about 2 weeks ago and the course was between poor and ok, but now I would avoid. Shame that a course that has a good layout (after the first few holes) and was in such good shape last year has turned into the mess I played this past weekend.

Fantastic shape

I have played a number of courses in the Orlando area - more golf than normal due to the pandemic. Deer Island was in fantastic shape. Maybe a couple of tee boxes had some issues, but even those were being worked on. Fairways with grass, clear difference in fairway to first cut to second cut of rough. Greens were a little slow because they want to keep them alive, but they were really smooth and consistent and putter true (I had no complaints after adjusting). The only complaint I had was pace of play. We zoomed around the first 11 holes, then watched a single in front of us wait on a foursome (3 women and a man) who never even looked back to consider letting anybody through. The single finally went around them, then we waited for every shot on the last 3 holes. Still played as a twosome in the morning in around 3.5 hours.

As always, the views and the wildlife were spectacular. If I lived a little closer I would join and play this course all the time.

Good "old school" course

As a former North Carolinian, this course reminds me a lot of the old courses in Raleigh and the Sandhills area around Pinehurst. Not much in terms of elevation changes (this is Florida), but the fairways were in good shape and the greens for the most part putted true. The defense of this course are some doglegs, traps, pine-tree lined fairways that are not as open as many of the resort courses, and undulating greens that make you think about your short pitch shots and putts. As a "member for a day" I got range balls, teed off as a single at 3:30, and finished a little after 5:30 - I saw other players on the course, but never caught anybody or waited on any shot. Some may complain about the lack of signage and the fact that the majority of the cart "paths" are not paved, but my rating is on the actual golf course itself and on whether I would play again and/or bring somebody with me the next time. I will do both at West Orange.
