Lots of improvements needed

This course has so much potential. The staff is awesome (except no rangers ever out on the course). Layout is so much fun. However, they’ve really let the course conditions get away from them. Greens are jacked up, the bunkers are mud and stone (big stone) pits and the fairways are average, at best. The worst part about this course, and the #1 reason Id tell people to avoid it is because of pace of play. It’s pathetic and has always been a problem here. Too many hacks (nothing wrong with being a hack) tying up the course and NO ONE moving people along. Also, the tee times ever 10 minutes needs to go. Spread people out!!! When your start sends off 4 groups in a row and NO ONE in all four groups makes it past the ladies tee’s, it may be time to reevaluate the pace of play problem. Starter should be telling everyone immediately that they need to keep pace and then follow up when you look at hole three (which you can see from one) and see 4 groups are backed up. It’s very simple people!

If you like cool designs and like to pick different clubs off the tee this course has fantastic potential. Also if you have the 5.5 (minimum) to dedicate to a round, then it’s a good option for the price. If you hate sitting around for 10 minutes between each shot and playing 18 in 5.5, then stay away!

Excellent

The course is beautiful with a very fun layout. Greens were absolutely perfect. Didn’t have a driving range or hitting area and an okay practice putting (only) green, so that was the only real downfall. Everything else was excellent.

I’m not sure where to begin... the only bright spot to the round was we got rained out a little after the turn. This course is an embarrassment. From tee to green there is zero positives. The course has been completely neglected, starting with every single tee box being an absolute trash heap. Fairways are, at best, okay, but that’s more just me trying not to be too harsh. Greens are atrocious. The course layout isn’t great to my eye, although, I suppose some may like it. But despite the enjoyment someone might take from the layout, it will be completely negated by the terrible playing conditions. Pace of play is typical for this areas... turtle slow. Price is the same as other courses for the area, which would be okay if the conditions matched the price even a little, but they do not. So, with that in mind, compared to the courses in the area and the horrendous conditions I would say the price is an absolute joke. Fortunately, the actual bright spot is the staff members are nice.

Overall, this is just a bad, bad course. I’ll put it this way, I wouldn’t play a free round at Middletown CC.

Thank you for reviewing the course. Your feedback about the conditions of our course is important to us. What you describe is not the standard we strive to achieve. Our maintenance team works hard every day to get the course in top shape. We always want to make sure we are offering golfers a competitive price for their round. It is our goal to give visitors the best chance to get out and play more. Thank you for playing Middletown Country Club. We hope to see you again soon.

Pace of play terrible; over priced.

Overall decent layout. Course was in good shape. Employee inside clubhouse was friendly, but the starter was not. What was ironic about my round was I asked if I could walk (752 am tee time) and they would not let me (didn’t ask for a discount or anything) because they “didn’t want me to hold up play” (I play at a good pace walking or otherwise). However, from 5 on we waited on the group ahead of us on EVERY hole. There were no other groups ahead of them, and these guys backed up everything behind us. We had guys in our butts because of it. Not one ranger. It’s a typical poor pace of play round in this area, but during the COVID reopenings all courses (except this one) have been good about pace of play because they don’t want backups. This course needs to adopt the new way courses are spacing out tee times and enforce slow play. It was pathetic. Would have been decent otherwise.

Good for $29

For $29 the course was decent. The general manager seems like a super nice guy, but definitely needs to get a better grasp on pace of play and moving golfers along. Didn’t see one ranger all day. No one waived up on the backed up par 3s (when I say backed up, it was legit 8 4-somes deep!). It’s a typical northeast pack a course like sardines Sunday. Took over 3.5 hours to play the back 9 alone! On the other hand, the course layout was fun. Made you think, and allowed for multiple club selection off the tee on most holes. Condition were okay, not definitely not average or above by any means. If it was more than $29 I don’t know if I’d recommend it. As cool as the layout was a nearly 5.5 hour round with a legitimate wait on every hole on the back 9 is not worth more. They need to get control of the course.

Definitely good, but should have been better.

First off, I loved the layout and the staff. The course and club house had some really really cool features that are worth checking out. The course was in so so condition, but I won’t blame that on lack of care. This area has been hammered by rain, so it’s impossible for any of the area courses to keep a course in good condition. I think with the right weather the course would be awesome. There is no way they should let anyone ride in a cart right now because they are destroying the place. On to my major problem with the course.... PACE OF PLAY. It was horrible! The group in front of us were an absolute disgrace. Ignorant dbags, who refuses to let us play through. We asked the ranger to speed them up and received absolutely no help from him. He completely blew us off and never said a word to the hacks in front of us. I’m no superstar on the course by any stretch of the imagination, but I don’t hold ppl up either. We literally waited on ever single whole. We had no one behind us and the first time we saw anyone behind us was when we were in the 5th hole; there was a group we saw on 2. They were a foursome that was walking and they caught us and were up our rear ends towards the end of the round because of the group ahead. Completely ruined the experience. Was definitely one of the worst courses for pace of play I’ve been on. Zero help from the employees at the course. They fix that and let it dry out and they have a winner. A little expensive for the conditions. Staff would have gotten 5 stars if we would have received help from the ranger. Not sure if recommend the course until the course conditions match the price (weather needs to cooperate)
