Whispering Woods Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2023As Expected
Had not played here since moving to the area approximately 4 years ago. Went off the back, which is the easier to the two nines. Front nine, had obviously been punched recently. An intriguing layout, that could be much better with some growth, and green rolling.
Creek at Carolina Trace Country Club
Played On 06/28/2023Was hoping for more.
Was hopeful upon arrival. Pro shop attendant was good. At $125, course conditions were not commensurate with this greens fees. If you played the ball down, ball was covered in grass clippings, and mower cuts were inconsistent (some cut , some not). Tee boxes were shaggy, and bunkers unkempt. Even more disappointing, when I saw tee times on Golf Now, at half-the-price, later in the week.
Southern Pines Golf Club

At least 3 holes were unplayable, because of heavy equipment between approach shots and Green complexes. Because of new sod and Ground under repair, sometimes had to walk 50 yards to find a playable at $61/player, a huge ripoff in this area.

Donald Ross on a budget. Greens were slow, but tee-to-green, above average conditioning. A little disconcerting in that there were exposed electrical wires, down the left side of 17.

As recent new owners in the Sandhills, we wanted to play every course we can. While CoVid, was in effect, were met by a surly, male Pro Shop person, who mandated what cart we could take (No one else was at the golf course), and just had zero people skills. This was diametrically opposite, to the large, posted sign outside, that said, "Welcome to the SandHills friendliest golf course"?
Mid South Club
Played On 04/21/2020Wished for More!
We used to include Mid South as our treat course as part of our Snowbirds getaway when we lived in MD. Now we live here, and were looking forward to today’s round. The members are invasive, and care little about anyone spending outside dollars. They conjugated on the Hill to the left of the 18th green as we attempted to finish. Back 9 conditions were significantly inferior to the front 9, and not even close to its sister course Talamore.

Have played this course multiple times. Course conditions are such that play can be problematic. Workers infringe upon play, and bunkers are in abominable condition.

From tee to green usually good. The issues come with subpar bunkers, and for early morning Player’s, sometimes not being able to find your ball in the first cut due to clumped grass clippings.

We only lasted 8 holes on this day, due to a pace-of-play of 2 hrs/38 mins, for those 8 holes. Tried to play through at the turn, and in fact asked that day's pro shop staff , if any body had turned lately, and they had no idea? They then proceeded to send groups off the back to pigeon-hold us in. No players assistant, course in substandard condition, and deplorable pace. It is unfortunate, in that the layout is interesting.

Had the opportunity to play here for the 1st time in a while! Really, the only down side was Clubhouse was not open 18 minutes before the 1st tee time of the day. The new Superintendent has been making great strides in bringing the course back! I believe, weather cooperating, it should be really good in a few weeks.
