Dorchester Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2023Course conditioning needs work
At this price point for 12 holes with cart I would rather pay another $20 for some of the better courses in the area. For example, I could have played Fanshawe the same day for not even $20 more. A course like The Fox would also provide better value for not much more $. Some holes are without yardage markers in the fairways, weeds all over the fairways, greens appear to be not rolled frequently (if at all.) It’s a decent little track with some interesting enough holes. Wouldn’t take much to get it in shape
Ironwood Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2023Reliable middle of the road course.
Ironwood has some great holes and nice rolling fairways with decent elevation changes. They have recently improved drainage and added new irrigation on a few fairways. Some of the tees could use leveling and some of the greens should be expanded as many have very skinny sections. The short par 4 12th hole is my favourite but there are many more good holes than average holes. The conditioning is to be expected at the price point, tees a bit hairy, greens a bit thatchy and collars not too tight. I enjoy playing here.
Fanshawe Golf Course - Traditional
Played On 06/21/20222nd heatwave of the year - course played well
I played at 9:30am and it was already 20*C. You could tell that they irrigated heavily in anticipation of 30+ heat. Greens were quick but varying moisture levels made for some inconsistency. No complaints, it was an enjoyable round.
Woodlands Links Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2021Like a well struck shot, the wonderful potential of Woodlands keeps me coming back for more
Awesome layout with the exception of a handful of trees on a handful of holes. Smart tee shots are rewarded with clear looks at smooth, receptive greens. Fairways can be a bit dry in spots which requires creativity to hit an ideal shot; a treat to play after rains when things soften up. Definitely have to learn the course as there are some blind shots that can really add strokes to your round if you end up out of position. Greens roll true and tee decks are mostly secluded although some green/tee complexes could use opening up/clearing away underbrush to aid with airflow and thus turf quality. Get this on a HotDeal for $35-40 with cart and you’ll have a great day on the course
Ironwood Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2020Fun course!
Nice mix of open, slopey fairways and tight tree lined target golf off the tee. Longer hitters will find that irons off many tees are sufficient. There was evidence of a recent verti-cut in the greens, which were soft after heavy rains the previous week. Many ball marks late in the day. I look forward to playing again with more firm conditions, although 6100 yards off the back tees at par 71 ( with 2 sub 500 yard par 5s on the back) is a bit forgiving for longer hitters.
