Disgusting and potentially dangerous. A guy died from bacteria on a golf course once from nasty jugs. Photo submitted by JustaGOONER on 10/01/2019

This is a great track. To open the course punches you right in the face with a par 5. Lots of undulating fairways and greens. All are fair though.
Play from the tips for a totally different experience.

This is such a wonderful course. My first Arnie Palmer experience and it was fabulous. Make the drive, it is well worth it. I drove from Chester Virginia and will go back a couple more times, especially in the summer. The course was dormant in the fairways, but the greens are the best I have ever played.
The staff, the course and the grounds were just fabulous. You can also stay and play, as well as rent a cottage for the weekend.
They will be breaking ground on the clubhouse soon and that is just going to add to the allure.
Can't wait to go back!

Colonial Heritage Club
Played On 01/16/2015What a great layout...
The course offers a 25 dollar round quite often and we finally took the drive over to play it. Food was perfect, (sliders), course is dormant in the fairways being January, but the greens were great, as were the tee boxes. Range was closed due to all the rain/sleet/snow we have gotten so there is not a lot of drain off yet, but WOW, what a great track. Really.
Prolly not a good candidate for walking it, at least the back nine anyway.
Staff was fantastic. I will certainly be heading back to the course in the summer to see it in all it's glory...
The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
Played On 12/20/2014Hidden gem
I played this in 38-40 degree weather and cloudy. Hardly ideal golf conditions. Honestly, I bought the tee time forgetting the weather forecast for the following day and being nonrefundable, I went for it. I was not disappointed. Most of the courses in this area are going into dormancy and so the greens are green but the fairways are generally not. Still, a great course, greens were fantastic, and fast. Just like they should be IMO. Many are little dots and many are huge. Their one common characteristic is none of them are flat, and I love to putt so it made for great fun. Even though we are middle/late December, the fairways were in great shape.
I will be back to play this in the summer when it should be in premium condition.
Worth the drive, worth the cost, and certainly a challenging course.
Spring Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2014WOWEE WOW WOW
So this is an amazing course. Top 3 in the state of Virginia IMHO.
The layout is very challenging, the decisions appear to be straightforward but that is just not the case. This course is a cross between Augusta and Royal New Kent here in Virginia. You have to play Royal New Kent to believe it....
Spring Creek will punish you for being naive IMO. Commanding iron control around the greens is a must, as well as straight drives from the tee.
The only water on the course is at the beautiful 18th, which caps a great round on a fantastic course. Truly a remarkable gem in every way...

I play in the Bellwood Golf Association league that is put on by the Defense Supply Center Richmond guys. This was my first year playing in it and first time playing this private course. My only hope is that we get to play it next year!
Posted my best ever score of 87, and while I don't think the course had a great deal to do with that, my head did, it was as pristine a course as I have ever played. Impeccable conditions, greens that were true and conditions that were expected.

Course was ok. For the money, you could probably find better though. Greens were totally unpredictable and slow sadly. Layout is interesting....
Played Royal New Kent which is a course every golfer needs to experience once I'm their life...WOW
LPGA International - Jones Course

Great course, staff was professional, courteous and food was good. Played with a couple and a rude guy. Either way, great experience and will play again if I find myself back home again.
Indian River Preserve Golf Club
Played On 05/21/2014Could be a gem
The course was good, layout is great and it has several links style holes. Blind shots, many decisions to make. The greens were long, aerated, sandy and very hard to predict. Balls wouldn't stick.
That was disappointing for sure so I cannot say what it would have been like had they been in proper shape. They had a little variation in them, but were perhaps a little too plain for the course? My opinion anyway, but I play in virginia and those courses are filled with elevated greens, elevated tee boxes. Very challenging.
As far as the cart went, the bag holder bolt came out and my bag fell off to the fairway. No biggie.
If I am back in the area, I will certainly play this course again to see the greens as they should be.
Water everywhere on this course...so have fun and enjoy!
River's Bend Golf Club
Played On 03/11/2014Bulldoze the clubhouse....
What a piece of garbage this is. Sad too, layout is good. I placed it under extremely challenging because it is unplayable in the condition it is in. So the issues...
- No sand in the traps. anywhere.
- Fairways are not mowed.
- Fairways are muddy.
- Fairways are basically yard grass and clay or mud.
- Ownership doesn't care. CLEARLY.
If George Emerson Jr. would only buy this place and give it the attention it needs.
Folks, seriously, don't go. It isn't worth 10 dollars to go play this. Just pass it by....

Good course, would like to go back and play it in temps above 45...it was really cold and windy as well. Price was too good to pass up.
Providence Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2013Excellent conditions
It is November, so all of the courses are getting that brown tinge to them. This course was fantastic. Challenges everywhere, hazards everywhere, and the greens were impossible to read. Just what we look for in a course.
The Club At Viniterra
Played On 10/18/2013Excellent example
This course was on our list for a long time and we finally decided to come out. Nice area, it is a winery as well. The course was excellent, the website could have better representations of each hole, but playing is believing. Grass was browning a bit in the fairways as it is that time of year, however each hole is isolated from the others. That makes it quite nice and there is very little distraction. Great experience and HIGHLY recommend. The only disappointment might have been the staff, who seemed a little is distracted for such a price.....
Dogwood Trace Golf Course
Played On 9/26/2013Best greens in Richmond
This course was very challenging and the greens are true. We have played many in the area, including private clubs and the greens are the best so far. Absolutely true rolling, the fairways are perfect. No exaggeration. Lake Chesdin is a close 2nd, but will be going back, OFTEN.
