Revitalization of Tres Rios

This course has had it's tough times over the last couple of years. But to those who like a nice layout, surrounded by the Estrella mountains instead of homes, know this. Tres Rios fairways are as good as any courses in the area. The greens roll true....spots look a bit rugged, but really didnt affect the read, nor the putts themselves. Some of the normal amenities like ball washers, frequent water buckets would be nice additions. However, the course itself is much, much improved. Hats off to the Tres Rios team for bringing this course back! The courses I have been playing are Palm Valley, Falcon Dunes, Falcon, Sundance. Right now, I question why I am paying $60+ per round at these courses, when Tres Rios is $34 per round....the more I play, the better I get, And I can play almost 2 full rounds at Tres Rios compared to the other courses. To the Tres Rios team.. Thank you. Keep up the good work!

Gotta do this again

This time of year we Arizonans can find a lot of nice golf courses. Rancho De Caballeros is something special. This course has it all. Great fairways, challenging roughs, traps that work you hard, greens that make you think, and beautiful scenery surrounding the course. If you can't hit your drives straight, there will be problems. So, bring extra balls. This course also has one of the nicest practice areas I've seen. Practice greens for putting, others for chipping, traps for practice, and free range balls. The range balls are Calloways which allows you to learn from your practice swings - - not beater balls seen at other courses. The course maintenance folks deserve some sort of award for what they do.... truly beautiful. I shot a louse score, but had a wonderful time, and definitely will be back.

A hidden treasure - now found

My brother and I initially played here because it is about half way between his home on the east side of Tucson and my home on the west side of Phoenix. Our only regrets are that we didn't play here sooner! What a wonderful place to play golf with no worries about homes surrounding the fairways and the peace and quiet we enjoy while playing. The fairways were in great condition, not too short, the trees - - well placed - problems when you don't keep it in the fairway. Fairway bunkers are well placed and well maintained. The sand traps next to the greens were a bit thin. The greens are a bit deceiving, and make you think about the contour(s). They are a bit slower than I have seen in Phoenix, which is fine. We will be back, including the summer, because there is - - in the middle of the desert - real shade from these fully developed trees. The only problem we saw each time, is that there is a maintenance yard where cars are parked. The staff drives through the fairway on the Par 3 on the front side, which is a bit distracting. The concern being that an errant shot could do some damage to their car, plus the subconscious thought of "they are waiting for me to hit". Greenskeepers were polite and stopped/turned off mowers when we were approaching them. We played from the middle tees. The back tee boxes will give any golfer a challenge, and make the course play entirely different.

A chilly morning at Del Lago

My brother and I have played there many times, and truly enjoy the course, staff, restaurant and restaurant staff - - everyone has a great attitude. The course was in great shape, but it was very cold that morning. Combined with the wind - - very chilly. We teed off at 8:00 am and I was surprised at the number of ball marks on the greens. Usually this is not an issue. The greens are usually in great shape, and my missed putts are my fault. However, it looks like a number of ball marks from the previous day had not been repaired. That's my only comment and it is intended to be constructive. I love this course! I drive from Phoenix and never regret the drive because of the pleasure of playing this course.

Course - great, not marshalled well. Look out for unfriendly residents in homes bordering the fairways

I loved the course. However, I got very explicit instructions from the pro-shop on announcements for 15 minutes to tee-off then 8 minutes to tee-off as well as where to meet the people I was playing with. The 15 minute call came. The 8 minute announcement did not. I went to the designated location to meet the other players - there was no one there. I got to the 1st tee - 10 minutes before tee-off time and waited. No one showed up. I finally teed off at the scheduled tee time to eventually catch up with the other players. They were told to go ahead and tee off early, and that I would eventually catch up. No one told me. Somewhat rude of the player's assistant that didn't follow through. The pro-shop is not marked well as to where it was. I found it by asking people in the area. Said hello to a lady on the practice range within 10 feet of me. No response. Hit a ball into the rock of a yard. Saw it, and went about 5 yards into the rock to retrieve it and got yelled at by a lady 3 homes down telling me that I was not allowed to retrieve the ball in someone's yard. I was someone surprised by the rudeness and lack of interest in having a guest on their golf course. Putting all that aside. The course has 27 holes. I played the Lakes and the Falls. Beautiful and somewhat forgiving layout. Fairways were like carpet. Greens were in very good condition. Traps and fairway bunkers were definitely a challenge, as they should be. I will play Pebble Creek again, if they let me come back (hopefully the lady that yelled at me didn't turn me in)... :- )

Traps-tough, greens- slow, fairways- beautiful, rough-deep

I had not played the Gold course in roughly 30 years due to moves around the country, and was really looking forward to playing. It was beautiful! The greens were long and looked like they were in seasonal transition - - to be expected. The fairway bunkers were truly placed in a position to make you think about your shots. The traps around the greens - seemed like I was either hitting downhill or had a lot of carry to clear the traps. Traps were well maintained. I'll be back!

The course keeps getting better. You truly pay a penalty when you are in the rough. Fairways cut very short.

I think this is the best deal in town. The current management is really working hard on the course condition. Things to improve. Drinking water availability. Get the carts in better condition. Some have no parking brakes, and some are hard to start once out on the course. Greens are pretty good. Firm and fast. Traps have gone from no sand to possibly too much. Much better than a year ago. The view and the course location are great. Lots of mountains, wildlife, and NO HOUSES to hit.
