Lipoma Firs Golf Course
Played On 10/15/2017Sad that they are closing
This is a great little 18-hole layout. However they recently posted a note saying they are closing their doors for good effective November 6th. We're sad about this. It's a fun place to play the pace of play as good and we hate to see it go.

This 9 hole layout is surprisingly tough. There isn't a hole that's over 350. Putting greens are well kept, but are very tricky. I've never seen two people who putt decently, miss so many 3 footers. But we had fun time.
Lipoma Firs Golf Course
Played On 04/12/2015good spring round
This was a good course for a spring round. Even though our weather has been a bit wet, the fairways were in good shape, the greens were surprisingly fast, and for a late Sunday morning round, the speed of play was very good.

Played On 04/05/2015marsh golf
We played our round on a dry day but this course, apparently does not drain well. It was very very wet and mushy from tee box, all the fairways. The only exception was the greens which were dry and fast. Hard to make the change from marsh to cement. The only consolation was that we got an ultra cheap through GolfNow. Made up for a pair of wet pants and shoes.

Played On 09/14/2014nice but needs some conditioning
We had a foursome that traveled from Port Orchard to Oak Harbor. The weather was perfect! Sunny and low 70's. The fairways for the majority of this course looked like a sprinkler system is non-existent. The good part of this is that we actually got some bounce and carry on tee shots. The greens were challenging but in very good condition. We would like to go back and play this course again since it was an all day adventure including a ferry trip there and back.

We went on a Sunday morning and the parking lot was packed. We played a fairly fast round.

Played On 04/06/2014its ok
This was the second time I've played this course. The conditions were OK. Nothing spectacular but very playable. The greens had recently been punched and sanded, as is the case with a lot of courses this time of year. We played reasonably early (7:52 am on a Sunday) and weren't pushed from behind nor were we held up by anyone in front of us. By the time we got to the turn the first tee was stacked up with players. I don't think I would want to start play any later than we did or we would be dragging and having a 5 hour round.

Played On 6/16/2013Nice round, but long.
We enjoyed our round here a lot. Challenging but playable for even us high handicappers. Be advised! If you book a round here remember two things: First, its a military base. You MUST stop at the visitor center to get a daily pass onto McCord. Secondly you MUST tell the staff at the visitor center that you are a GolfNow reservation. We almost didn't get on base because the golf shop wasn't told we had a time thru GN and they said they had no tee time reserved. Also we played on Father's Day and the course had a couple of tournaments booked which is why our pace was so slow. I'm sure the normal pace would be 4:15-4;30. Go...enjoy the course and their very reasonable cost.

Played On 2/17/2013beautiful, but tough
We got a great time at a great price, but our round seemed to go on forever. Over 5 hours. We were constantly waiting for the foursome ahead of us who were waiting on the foursome ahead of them, etc. etc.
Horseshoe Lake Golf Course
Played On 12/10/2012I play this course a lot.
I really hope that the new owners make some effort to improve this place. The tee boxes are adequate, but not great. The greens are usually ok but have had issues with fungus previous.
There are very few bunkers anywhere on the course, but don't think this makes play much easier.. Fairways are challenging. Did someone say "marshals"? Forget about it. The former owner used to promote marshals on horseback. And for awhile, the Marshals were some attractive young ladies. Not anymore.
Same thing goes for cart service. Unless its a Saturday and busy, forget it. Watch your receipt if you purchase food/soda from the pro shop. They WERE adding a mandatory "gratuity" even if you got your own soda from the cooler. The restaurant has just recently reopened. We played today and could not even get alcohol other than beer or wine. No licence to sell it.
If you want food or drink, go elsewhere. Cheap golf...its here.
