I love the courses, but........

The courses at Black Horse/Bayonet are excellent. I've played here many times. However, the conditions were the worst I've every seen it here. Tee boxes pretty beat up. Fairways are very thin with bare spots. Greens are a little bumpy and much slower than usual. I was very disappointed paying the full NGCA rack rate of $110. Maybe at half price the below average conditions (for this course) wouldn't bother me. Unless you are paying less than $65, I wouldn't recommend playing here now.

Fast greens

My buddy and I played two weekdays on a golf package. Pace of play was perfect. No one behind or in front of us for two days.

The yardage on the card is short (6100+) but it plays longer and you can play driver from all par 4s and 5s (back tees).

Some say the course is easy, but it does have some protections from scoring (I'm a 5.3 index). The greens are fast and undulating. I added about 3 strokes in putting. A lot of tightly moved chipping areas with 4 to 8 foot falloffs. My up and downs percentages were about 1/2 of normal. The fairways have a very tight mow. Mishits will have a poorer outcome than cushioned fairways. Especially wedges from inside 100 yards. This added a few strokes to my score. Finally, the course is target golf with OB and hazards on almost all holes. I had one OB and two shots in the water over 3 rounds (I was driving great too).

Course conditions are fantastic, scenic and fun to play.

Very good course

My first time playing here and I was very pleased with the course. Scenic, good layout, and in excellent condition. The green speed is about 10 (stimpmeter), which I consider average but can get very quick from above the hole. We played the blue tees (6690 yards). The front 9 is easy, shortist and wide fairways. The back 9 is far more difficult. Longer, tighter and more water hazards. Holes 10, 11 and 12 are very difficult, with 13 being tough too. It gets easier after that. Our pace of play was excellent, but it was twosome on Thursday at 9AM.
