A good day

Well designed course with interesting variation.
A good challenge from the blue tees, plenty of hazards and water but plenty of width on most drives so very playable, whilst poorly hit or very wayward shots can be punished. Course condition decent. Course has a big feel.
No problem with starter when we played.

Excellent Waterlefe

I play this course more than any other in the area because it’s a great layout, well conditioned and fairly priced. But better than that, it’s fun and a real challenge.
Plenty of water trouble which demands good straight driving. The quality of the design is evident and the landscape is striking with a good few stand out holes. 9 is a long par 3 with a significant carry over a wetland. 10 is a magnificent looking par 5 with water skirting the left with a large tree on the right narrowing the fairway at wedge distance from the green. But 14 - 16 are three special holes. 14 is a really tough par 5 with water both sides of the tee and a second shot lay up unless you can make the carry of circa 200 yards over a wetland. 15 is a delightful par 3 alongside the Manatee river where the green must be carried over a wetland. 16 is a quirky short par 4 offering a birdie chance but requiring an accurate drive water. Choose your tees to test your skills and give you a chance. It’s all good.

Seriously good.

Excellent design over a wide landscape, a touch of affordable pine valley for the enthusiasts. Greens a little slow the day I played.
Front 9 is a good warm up for a seriously good back nine but watch out for no. 8 where a pinpoint approach shot is required to a green surrounded by deep bunkers. 4 is a good risk/reward par 5 with options off the tee with a big carry if going for the right side fairway. Very elevated green makes going for it in two a tough shot.
The feature of the course is strategic sand waste areas increasing the challenge and adding to the visual enjoyment. High quality back 9, no more demonstrated than on the short par four 15th that has a green set in a bowl with a fairway to the left and extensive sand waste area in front.
Clubhouse is basic and no gps on Carts but if the golf is most important to you this course will not fail to please. Choose between the black or green tees if you drive it 250+ or 230.

Good Design

The upside is that after an average opening 5 holes the design features come through from then on, with many attractive and challenging holes. The back 9 is excellent and finishes with a strong par 5 with water in front of the green, which was tough into a stiff breeze!
For top marks, the club needs to improve the conditioning of the fairways and bunkers, although the greens were fine and a good speed. Competent golfers will find a satisfying and tough challenge from the white tees at 6857 yards but if it's windy or you can't drive it 250 off the tee, go off the yellow tees (6407). Well worth a play at a golfnow/afternoon rate around $50 given the course is not in top condition.

A taste of St Andrews?

The New course is a copy of the Old Course at St Andews in respect of the links type layout, including concealed burns and bunkering and large double greens, the course presented in excellent condition. It is in every respect a good challenge for competent golfers particularly from the blue tees at just under 6900 yards and although there is plenty of driving room, the approach shots are challenging. The design presents a most untypical Florida course. Being a Brit and having played the Old at St Andrews, I can advise that it is impossible to replicate the rugged charm of the real thing here in Florida. The real thing is enveloped by the "Auld Grey Toon" at the start and finish with views of St Andrews Bay and is pounded by wind and rain much of the time, yet mostly the ground is firm and the ball runs.
However, the New offers a glimpse of links golf and if you want a different challenge and excellent conditioning, then I can highly recommend that you visit the New.
The clubhouse, staff and facilities are excellent so a visit here should prove highly enjoyable.

Understated challenge

Whilst the River Club facilities are basic the course layout is excellent with a variety of interesting holes providing a good challenge for competent golfers at 6614 yards off the blue tees. In my opinion, the conditioning was adequate if not pristine. Whilst the greens were bare in parts they rolled a lot better than they looked and I made a lot of putts from 10 feet and in.
Found most holes interesting, particularly liked the short par 4 9th where water threatens a long drive, the 10th & 18th with big carries to the fairway and the 16th with an island green requiring a long second shot to clear the surrounding water. Club deserves a bonus point for fitting basic gps to carts.

A pleasurable experience

Rosedale is a varied and challenging course with charm. Typical Florida water hazards on some holes but the challenge and variety comes on the tree lined holes which call for well placed tee shots. The course is well manicured and well above the average in this regard with fast greens. Not overlong bit you will need to have a good game to score well. Overall a pleasurable exprinece.

Dave D

Really good course design and condition with a strong back 9, culminating in an exciting finish with tough shots to carry water & reeds on the last few holes.

Plenty long enough for me off the blue tees requiring long iron approaches into a breeze on many of the par 4's.
