Needs Improvement

If never having an even lie and loving blind shots all day long is your cup of tea,, then play here! Tee boxes were in terrible shape...some were nothing but dirt,, others looked like they hadn't been mowed in weeks. Greens were fair. Every hole is sloping and haa giant hills. Very strange and unpleasant course layout. If you can find a hot deal for less than $25, for a last resort it isn't the worst decision you will make in life...but you must be forewarned that this course is no country club and clearly is not well maintained these days.

Terrible Conditions

This course is a former country club that turned public a few years ago. The recent island greens construction adds several nice looking holes to the course. However, they should have put that money into maintaining the course because the current conditions are downright awful. Rarely do you have a lie that isnt in burned up fairway patches, dirt, straw, mud, or solid concrete like firm dirt ground. Finding a nice patch of fairway is the biggest challenge you will face. Pace of play was also terrible, and that was on a Tuesday afternoon! I will play elsewhere for the remainder of this year. Even with the hot deal price of $16 it isnt worth it. Disappointing.

AERATION ALERT! GIVE IT A FEW MORE WEEKS!

Played Old South 4 years ago and it was in much better shape. Didn't remember it being such a blah layout. Greens recently aereated and still showing signs of it, with holes present along with sandy topdressing. Tee boxes also aereated. Marshes are mostly dried up due to summer heat. Just not in great shape overall, and I saw no warnings of aeration when i booked online. Slightly disappointing. Give this course a few more weeks to heal before you pay to play here.

We regret you didn't enjoy your day at Old South. The marshes are influenced by the tide. If you had played at high tide the holes would be much more memorable. Aerification notice was on GolfNow and given by staff.

Could be better maintained

Lakeside course not in great shape. Lots of recently cut down trees,, piles of debris that have been there for weeks and should have been removed long ago. Greens show many unrepaired divots. Geese population is large. Some greens are covered in geese dung. Fairways are ok. Heavy volume play at Butlers shows. Tee boxes littered with divots and broken tees. Overall conditions could use much maintainence. Average at best in mid August. I would not pay over $30 to play here. This always busy course should spend some profits on generall upkeep and course beautification. Hackers Paradise.

Good play for $20

This course apparently used to be a strip mine, so the ground tends to be rather firm. Greens are decently maintained, fast due to lack of rain and not easy. Tees and fairways were decent. Lots of water, sand, and hazards can come into play. Enjoyable course iif you can get a Hot Deal for $20-$25. Would not pay $36 to play here on a weekday.

Decent Track, Not Superb

Course is in decent shape. Greens are fine, consistent but not superb. Fairways are ok. This course must get a lot of play because the common approach areas in fairways show lots of divots. The White tee boxes are not good, especially on the Front Nine-many are dirt and sandy with very little grass. Course Amenities are great. Water stations and Restrooms are plentiful. Clubhouse is very nice with all the things one desires, from pro shop to bar and dining room. Practice facility and range are fine also. Overall a good value if you can get a Hot Deal time or cheaper afternoon time for less than $50. I would not pay any more.

Very nice course as anticipated

Course is well maintained. greens were fast and true. Rough was brutally long, thick, and nasty -Not fun if you don't hit the fairways. Pace of play was great, it seemed there were very few golfers on the course at all. Will play again for certain.

Excellent Value

Played this course for $32 each for 18 with cart (hot deal tee time) as a twosome. Staff was friendly+ helpful to us first timers at Golden Bear at Indigo Run. Course was in good shape despite the heat lately and rain all week. Drainage must be well planned out. Nice course..some monotony with layout, but some very nice holes throughout also. Greens were consistent, numerous tee boxes for all abilities, fairways in good shape also..nice amenities with full service clubhouse+pro shop, driving range, putting green, and everything you would expect a Nicklaus course to have. Plenty of drinking water on the course also--always helpful on hot days. Food at the turn able to be ordered from 9th tee on house phone always makes it easy;a nice touch. Overall a great value on a nice course. Would definitely play again. Thanks Golden Bear at Indigo Run.

You get what you pay for

Played this course on August 14th for the first time. We were told by the pro shop that we had plenty of time, then immediately rushed to get to the first tee by the starter. Greens were horrible--Slow as could be and severely chewed up anywhere within 15 feet of the hole. Obviously, this course gets no time to heal from its overcrowded play. This course is rather short, but moderately challenging. You can find trouble often on many holes where water/marshes/hazards come into play. Then once you get on the greens you are faced with putting thru the attrocious marks left by others and the sluggish pace. These greens were some of the worst I've ever seen, that weren't under repair. Overall, a so-so course for the money, if you book on this website. Definitely not worth more than $65/18 holes, which is what I paid. Best thing about this course were the views..very pretty holes overlooking the water. However, on my next visit to OBX, I'll play elsewhere.
