Hidden Lake Golf Club - New Course
Played On 06/21/2022(It's going to be a) Long hot summer
Played Hidden Lakes New on the first day of summer, and it was hot. The course was in decent shape, but you could tell we are in need of some rain. The fairways were firm with only a few areas where they are having trouble growing grass. Most of the bunkers were in good shape with a nice amount of sand, but there were a few that were marked as ground under repair. Greens were rolling well and it looked like some top dressing was just put down, although this did not affect putts. For a Tuesday, the pace of play was a bit slow, but we still finished in just over 4 hours. A really good value course in the Burlington area.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2021Excellent conditions
It had been a while since I had been to Dragons Fire, and was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions. The turf was in great shape, despite the greens being recently punched and filled. Another surprise was the amount of trees taken down, but I bet it had to do with a moth infestation, which there was no sign of.
Pace of play was dreadful for a Thursday afternoon, and I think the 8 minute tee time separation it the culprit. I certainly wouldn't be interested in seeing what it is like on a weekend.
$100 for the round including cart was a bit steep, but it is on par with the other courses in the area, and they do have new carts with comfy seats.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2020Par for the course
Dragon's Fire is Dragon's Fire. We teed off at 2:12, and finished just after 7, so sadly about average for a weekend round in the GTA, but faster than I was expecting at this challenging track. The fairway turf is patchy in spots, but the greens are perfect, and you can tell they are doing their best on the tee boxes, despite the thousands of hackers running through there every week. I was surprised by how much our green fees were considering it was effectively a twilight round, but you can see where they are spending their COVID windfall - they have brand new really nice power carts.
Streamsong Resort - Red Course
Played On 01/08/2020Great course
I had a complimentary round from my stay at the resort, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is amazing. Most every tee shot makes you have to think about what you want to do as there are hazards all over the place. The course conditions were perfect and I don't think a blade of grass was out of place. The greens were immaculate, and held every line. Some of the bunkers were a bit bare, but the reality is that you need to hit fairways if you want to score. I've played a bunch of really great courses, and I can't think of one that is better than this one in terms of design, set-up , and conditions. Just awesome.
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2018Always fun
I really like this course. You really need to make your shots and keep it out of trouble. The course conditions for the end of October were excellent. The thing is that Indian Wells is no-frills golf; the clubhouse is not special, and some of the cart paths and bridges are well below par. They did upgrade their carts last year, and this was both needed and a significant upgrade to the course. Overall though, their pricing is a bit on the high side for what you get, especially for fall rates.
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2016Another great day at Indian Wells
The course is in it's usual great shape - the fairways are green, lush, and well maintained, and the greens give their usual consistent, smooth roll. Given that the weather was amazing, it was another great day at Indian Wells.
Port Colborne Country Club
Played On 05/11/2016Awesome greens
The greens here were awesome the day I played. Not only were they incredibly smooth, but also quite fast, and very consistent. I can't remember if I have ever played on greens as good as these in Canada, and I have been at it a while!
Conestoga Golf and Country Club - Goose Run/Moors
Played On 03/27/2016Early season conditions
For the early season (late March) the course was in not bad shape. There were some moist patches of fairway, but the greens were solid. Given that they had recently been aerated, and the grass may still be dormant, the greens were not bad, just terribly slow. I would think though that in another month, the course should be in good shape.
