Considering the south shore is as flat as Kansas, the course has some interesting holes that really pose a challenge. Lots of sand and a number of holes on the water, force you to play the smart shot and play for par (or bogey). While It didn't bother me nearly as much as some other reviewers, the restricted carts can be annoying.

Great local golf course with very reasonable greens fees. I have played a few dozen times and I have always been paired up with the nicest people. Generally a locals' course, filled with regulars. Some shorter par 5's and a challenging par 3's make the course a lot of fun to play. I would highly recommend this to anyone who finds themselves in the area.

Sandy Pond is a par 3 course in the middle of Riverhead. I like to think of it as the ultimate practice facility for those of us who don't have $100k to spend on joining one of the local clubs. The owners are two of the nicest guys around and take a lot of pride in this little course. I am a very serious golfer, but I also like to have fun. This is by far the best way to practice your game from 150 yards in. Also a great way to get kids and beginners hooked on golf.
