Robert Trent Jones Jr

A Lot is implied with that name.
Undulating greens, fast greens, target golf, lost balls, lethal beauty.
Amazing course & experience. But this ain't party wagon golf.
It's pretty serious golf. Unless you are consistently in the low 80's or
better at other courses, you are going to struggle to keep pace here.
We were a threesome of high 80's golfers. We held pace... but we didn't
spend any time looking for balls (lost about a half dozen each). It was a
5 hr round that slowed around the 16th.
My recommendation for golfers shooting over 85 anywhere else
or anyone playing the course for the 1st time is to play some type
of best ball format. I think you will learn & enjoy the course more.
(And easily maintain a great pace.)
Other notes:
The golf carts have automated marshalls with technical support
for your location & distances. And if you drive it some place that
you shouldn't... the cart dies. You can only drive it in reverse with
a back up beep that announces your driving to everyone.
The food is AWESOME. Order from the cart.
I'll go again. But I'm playing a best ball format.

Great review! Best ball sounds a little extreme but when I played, I was just losing balls at my own pace, all by myself on a weekday morning. Good tips tho! Thanks!

That time of year

Everything is great about the course.
(especially the greens normally)
But temporarily (as of 9/25/16)...
the greens are punched and sanded.
The bad news is obviously putting.
The good news is the course probably won't be crowded, & will play fast. If you aren't trying to
improve your putting for a week or 2...
go have a blast! Great people. Nice Course.
Lot's of Turkey's. Deer & Coyotes too.

Afternoon trip

Nice course. Nice greens for the pice & traffic. It represents Sacramento well. Close to rivers and loaded with trees. Good eye candy but they don't really interfere with play or pace. The pace was great in the afternoon. Probably because nobody likes mosquitos.
I take repellent. And my kids are grown.
So Zika doesn't really worry me. ;-)

Good Practice Good Fun.

This course is a blast for children! Very well groomed. Lots of beautiful trees lining the fairways. It's easy, but a nice place to sharpen up on your short game. The service is great. They accommodate soccer golfers too... but that's fine with me if it makes green fees more affordable. Another benefit is that they don't overcharge for drinks & snacks like most golf courses tend to do.

Fun Day

Great condition, pace, and service..
Off season conditions... but nice. Lots of grounds keepers working, and bunkers were well groomed. A marshal drove by 3 times equipped with spare golf balls if someone was slowing pace to look for balls they lost. (I was fine and didn't need any)
The course layout is a little confusing for first timers. Golf with a guest who has been there,
or pay close attention to where the next tee is.
A very nice experience in general.

1 Bad Day

Casper 98 made some good points.
Due to the frost... the course could not be groomed.
Shots in the fairway were lost in the grass.
Due to the frost... Everyone started on 10 and finished on 9.
That meant we were hitting into the sun most of the day.
I've golfed here many times before and loved it.
But the biggest problem that day was the service. Some young kids running the pro-shop had no problem solving skills. They claimed to be "following policy"... yet they sent a 5 some of
beginning golfers in front of everyone at 10:00 am. They were playing at a 6 hour pace... and the course marshal (another kid) was unable to speed them up.
Willow Park IS a pretty course with lots of Deer.
This 1 bad day was the exception and not the rule.
The kids running the pro-shop that day have probably been fired already. Give them another chance when the weather improves.
