Trentham Park Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2022Interesting layout in decent condition
Course in good condition but built on clay so I suspect it gets soggy during periods of rain and very bouncy in a drought.
Clubhouse has been renovated very nicely indeed and the staff that we met were very welcoming and friendly.
It was decent value for money.
Chorlton-cum-Hardy Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2022Short course, closely pack holes
Short course with holes close together and bouncy conditions (in places it felt a bit dangerous). The pace of play was very slow we were waiting on every shot and the problem appeared to be a society some of whom could only be charitably described as occasional golfers (uncharitably they were complete hackers).
The greens putted ok but it was impossible to pitch a well struck shot onto a green and get it to stay on the green.
The off course amenities were decent and all of the staff were friendly and helpful - a credit to the club.
Shaw Hill Golf Club
Played On 04/25/2021Poor greens and slow pace of play
Hadn’t played Shaw Hill for over 20 years and I have to say I was disappointed. The greens were rock hard with bare patches all over. It took 4 and a 1/2 hours to play the round as a two ball (we had to wait on every shot from the 4th tee). Toilet facilities on the course consisted of a portaloo which in this day and age is unacceptable. There are also no refreshments available on the course.
Off course facilities were ok considering the restrictions due to COVID-19.
Old Thorns Manor Hotel, Golf & Country Estate
Played On 01/28/2018Good course
Played here for the first time as part of a two night 2 round package booked through Golfbreaks. Course is very well laid out with some challenging holes and in a lot of cases position off the tee is more important than absolute length. Well done messers Alliss and Thomas.
Considering the time of year and the recent appalling wet weather the course was in good condition. There was some maintenance work ongoing but it has to be done some time and better in the winter than during the playing season.
WARNING - The walk between the second green and the thrid tee and also up to the fifteenth green is steep and requires some physical effort.
Overall definitiely recommend and my wife and I look forward to returning during the sumer months.
Blacknest Golf & Country Club
Played On 01/27/2018Mudbath
Regrettably played here on Saturday 27th January and came off after 11 holes due to the appalling condition of the course - IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OPEN (if only to protect the course).
It was a total mud bath, trolleys getting stuck in mud, water logged fairways, no definition between fairways and rough, poor condition ladies tees and a rabbit scrape in one green.
After changing out of our muddy clothing we spoke to someone in the proshop whos response was "you are entitled to your opinion" - not exactly decent customer service considering I am a category one golfer who does have some idea on how a course should be presented.
We also spoke to a local in the car park when we were leaving and he said that the course is known for being incredibly wet during the winter and should probably be closed for at least 3 months each year.
We will certainly never return. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Stoneham Golf Club
Played On 09/17/2017Great course definitely worth playing
Great course, interesting layout and good greens. The course is going through a 3 year improvement plan and some of the bunkers were out of play. However, it didn't stop us unejoying the course.
The clubhouse is fresh and clean with excellent freindly staff. The food that we had (two sandwiches) was decent.
I suspect we will play it again the next time we are in the area.
