Desert Pines Golf Club
Played On 02/06/2015Pete Dye is an evil genius
We were warned by the starter on the first tee that this track is tight, with water in play on 9 holes, and deep bunkers often with railroad ties coming in to play frequently. How right he was. Pete Dye is the architect and he is an evil genius when it comes to punishing wayward golf shots. The narrow fairways and tricky greens were in great shape and we all enjoyed the challenge of playing this course for the first time. A second trip around would probably result in better scoring due to knowing the layout better.
Pro-shop staff was fairly helpful although they didn't mention the "beat the pro" game on the back mine that would have resulted in a savings voucher on merch in the pro shop. $35 for a course logo hat is a bit steep, but hey, it's Vegas what did you expect!?
Callaway rental clubs were $65 and two of the drivers has big dents in the crowns (quickly replaced by the staff) but were otherwise in good shape. Bring lots of ammo, this course is tough!
Morningstar Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2014Early Summer and the course is in good shape
Morningstar never fails to challenge and is almost always in pretty good condition. Today was no exception, the course is in very good shape. They have added some bunkers since I last played and allowed the fescue and long grass to really grow in some areas. Some of the pin placements are extremely challenging when tucked into the smaller tiers on the large rolling greens. The fairways and rough are very soft and it felt a bit like they are over-watering for this early in the summer.
