About
Lacking in distance but fairly straight (when I don't try to 'kill' it). I prefer to enjoy the day with a reasonable chance at par so I usually play from 1 of the 2 forward tees, or between 5,500 and 5,800 yards....I wish more guys would put their egos away and have more fun and lower scores by playing it forward from where they usually do. If and when you get better then move back.

Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 02/22/2014Overpriced and not as advertised
Greens had not recovered from 'punching' some time ago and were not sanded for better roll...very bumpy and impossible to gauge speed. I played muni's in the Metro area in better shape and for less money than Ahwatukee Country Club. I expected a superior experience to Muni's and was disappointed.
StoneRidge Golf Course
Played On 02/14/2014Forced carries on almost every hole
Disappointed that the course was not 'greened'...dormant fairways made for a lot of tight lie situations and what I would consider unfair conditions. Good shots were often not rewarded when the ball would roll into the rough or worse.
Cave Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/05/2014Playable Muni
Busy course operated by the city, in decent shape for such a course but has some bare spots. Green speed moderate.
Kayak Point Golf Course
Played On 9/14/2013If you love undulating courses you'll love this one
One of my favorites. Tree lined old style course but with many holes featuring elevation changes. Pretty good shape for a public access course. One hole even has 2 fairways to choose from, left or right around a copse of trees to an elevated green. A 'fun to play' track though not a stroll in the park, opt to ride.
Lake Padden Golf Course
Played On 9/13/2013Tree lined course with generous fairway landing areas and numerous elevation changes.
A nice track that has a few water areas that are not in play for the most part. Built on sloping land near Lake Padden in the Bellingham area of NW Washington the course is a local favorite for all skill levels. Doglegs and elevation changes make for an interesting round with well maintained greens (watch out for the deceptive slope on the Par 3 #4 hole).
Discovery Bay Golf Club
Played On 7/28/2013Playing from the gold or red tees is very satisfying for the average golfer.
Diversity between front and back 9, like 2 different course experiences. Built on the side of a hill, virtually all the holes are either up or down hill from the tee boxes.
Most greens have some 'damage' and we decided to at least give ourselves a 'clean' putt to the hole location, but no closer to the pin.
Very dry conditions and a lot of brown grass on the fairways the day we played but ultimately playable. We would like the fairways to be 'smoother' than they were, a bumpy ride in a cart even though we went slowly.
Enough trouble to make you think but not so much that it was too difficult to enjoy. A decent day.
Camaloch Golf Club
Played On 5/20/2013Varied layout, not as easy as it looks
A nice surprise. just off the highway on Camano Island, West of I-5 between Marysville and Mount Vernon. Nice people and a treasure for local golfers.
Water is in play but not overly so. Uphill, downhill and lateral holes provide an interesting layout that is not as easy as it looks your first time around. Not too difficult to walk, except for 1 steep uphill hole, but electric carts are only $12.50/rider including tax for 18 holes.
Would play it again and recommend it to everyone.
The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Woodlands
Played On 9/2/2012Fun for all skill levels
Beautiful day in September 2012 on a very good course. Well laid out with enough variety to make it a step above most courses in the area. Water hazards and enough sand traps to make it very challenging from the back but very playable from the front.
Good value that includes a cart which is helpful since the course is built on undulating land, although about half of the holes are fairly level.
Challenging greens completes the picture and a very enjoyable outing.
Homestead Farms Golf Club
Played On 8/12/2012Overpriced for Washington State and average value when compared to Vancouver Canada rates for similar courses.
Fairly well maintained golf course in a golf community in Lynden Washington but not great value for money, all things considered, with a cart (which I always take).
As with most golf courses the tee boxes are too close to each other and it could use a new set of tees ahead of the existing forward tees (too long for new or moderate golfers to have a chance at reasonable scoring).
A lot of challenging water carries for the average player which makes the overall experience frustrating to say the least.
I will only now consider this course when the price is really low. I used to play it more often in past years but mostly give it a pass unless super low priced.
Mount Si Golf Course
Played On 8/6/2012Uninspiring layout and overpriced
The clear view of the face of Mount Si from some of the holes is spectacular, the golf is not.
We had looked forward to playing Mount Si for years but t the cost was about double what we like to pay, including a riding cart. We finally got a chance in early August 2012 and were disappointed overall.
The course is relatively flat with uninspiring greens and is no better than most munis, or other public courses in the greater Seattle area, with respect to its overall maintenance. We won't be hurrying back soon.
