Legacy at Greystone Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/19/2018Greystone Legacy
The Legacy Course at Greystone Golf & Country Club is the newer of the two golf courses the club offers. We were able to access it through ClubCorp benefits, and I must say it was one of the best courses I've played under ClubCorp.
The course starts off with a pretty straightforward Par 4 that will give you a great indication of how the course will play. The course has big wide fairways that offer plenty of landing room. As another reviewer has noted, the Zoysia grass in the fairways will tee the ball up if you can hit them. Wayward drives can be punished, however, as the majority of the holes are completely framed by trees. Also, the rough gets very thick and the ball will settle down.
There is a fun mix of holes on this course, most notably the Par 3s and 5s. The first Par 3 is all carry over water, another is to an elevated and heavily bunkered green with a severely sloped green, and the last has significant elevation change. The Par 5s mostly play left to right and offer some good scoring chances if you can put the ball in the fairway. The most notable Par 5 is the 18th, which finishes with an approach over water.
The course conditions were continually spectacular, and possibly the best conditioned course I've played all year. Both the fairways and greens were immaculate, with lush grass that was playing tight and fast. Putts were rolling true on lines all day. The fairways and greens were so thin on divots you wonder how often this course even gets played. Overall, a fun challenge, beautiful facilities, and friendly staff made for a great day.
Country Club of the South
Played On 10/18/2018Country Club of the South
Country Club of the South is a private, ClubCorp owned, country club in the Northern Atlanta suburb of John's Creek. I've played a lot of ClubCorp courses, and this would rank in my top 3. The course sits on a beautiful piece of land in an affluent neighborhood of Atlanta. As the course meanders through a neighborhood, every hole is framed by houses and/or woods so wayward drives can be lost. Each hole is unique, challenging, but score-able. The conditions were good for a ClubCorp, albeit not as nice as ClubCorp's other gem, Firestone. The staff was all friendly and accommodating and the facilities were beautiful. Overall, would highly recommend.
