Cheraw State Park Golf Course
Played On 06/21/2020Great layout, but greens were not so good
Had played here once before.....a year ago....and the course was wet, but the greens were really good and the layout is superb. This time....on Father's Day....the course was still a little wet from rain two days earlier, but tees and fairways are in fine condition. However the greens were bumpy and thin and slow....just disappointing since they are hybrid bermuda and should be thriving this time of the year. A local said that they had aerated 4 days earlier...which explains it....and I hope they recover. But just bad timing on my part. Wish the GolfNow posting would have indicated recent aeration....I would have passed on the 1 hour drive to get there and gone some other time. Overall beautiful parkland course...lovely trees, some water/lakes, big bunkers (albeit some had standing water) and no homes or OOB.
Will be back...but will call first to see about conditions. Great value when greens are in better shape.
Deltona Club
Played On 01/23/2016Felt like Scotland!
Deltona is an interesting course for Florida and it was a nice change from flat layouts with ponds and streams. Course difficulty is not so high as to make it too challenging, but it does have it's teeth in spots. Our particular golfing day was very windy and the combination of jagged waste bunker areas and the hills and the 25+mph winds and temps in the 40's, this round felt more like golf in the old country! Staff was really friendly and we got a great deal on GolfNow. Course was in good shape...greens very good...and I'd certainly go back and play again when in the Daytona area.
Talamore Golf Resort
Played On 02/08/2015Always a good challenge
Played Talamore in early Feb 2015 on one of those rare 70+ degree days in NC and it's always fun playing there. Never tire of the challenge. The course layout is great with a good mix of difficult, moderate and easier holes - even from white tees. Course conditions were really good for mid-winter. Greens rolled good...had some light fertilizer on them, but it didn't really affect the putts. A few bad spots on the greens in places, but generally the flags were in positions away from the spots. Bunkers were in excellent shape. And typical Sandhills courses don't stay wet very long so overall the course was pretty dry. Always a good time playing Talamore...llamas still hangin' out off the tee of #14. Put it on your play list when you're in the area...a GolfNow deal for $39 (or less) is good value for the quality of course.
Deercroft Golf Club
Played On 11/22/2013Course reborn!
Played course for the first time in many years and had a great day at Deercroft. Course has new owner Ted Robinson who has made it his passion to restore the course to premier status. And he's doing a great job. Greens are excellent bent grass and tees and fairways are very good. Lots of tree removal has enhanced views and made this rolling Sandhills course very enjoyable. Owner Ted and staff could not have been more welcoming and Ted will want to get to know every golfer and make sure you have a great day. Will definitely be back and Golfnow.com deals can't be beat.
