Northstar California Golf Course

staff was great, both on the phone and in-person.
course is ok - front 9 is in the meadow and it was soft/mushy in most places - had water coming into my shoes in a dozen shots or so, even as dry as it has been up here. Greens were pretty good and the layout of the front 9 is a good play. Yellow Jackets are everywhere and one of our group was bitten/stung - changed the round going forward as we all were hyper-aware of how many there were around us. Back 9 is tight and almost feels like the resort decided they should add 9 more holes, even through the layout wouldn't be that great. Several blind/tight shots that can cost you strokes and frustration even if you hit a good tee shot. Worth a play if you just have to play it, but bring your bug-spray, and hit a lot of irons off the tee on the back 9.
Whitney Oaks Golf Club

I think I got on right after a super-bowl tourney or something. Kids in the pro-shop were great, many of them going military so we had a bit of fun talking about that. Course is in pretty bad shape in the fairways, but it's winter right? so have to understand that the grass is dormant. The greens are actually in pretty great shape, but I think they're rolling in the neighborhood of 15 or 16's on the stimp. They had some pins that would remind you of the volcano mini-golf hole, and some sitting on banks that literally you couldn't get the ball to come to rest around the hole - you'd putt, and miss, and wait for it to come back to you.... so I used it for more of a ball-striking round because putting was not fun, or realistic. practice range is fine and the chipping area is fine - nothing spectacular. I'll go back, but probably not in the winter.
Also, as you get away from the clubhouse, up into the neighborhood area on 4th and 5th holes, there are a bunch of teenagers who run around on the course - as if it's their backyard. Found them on several holes, and they're not exactly in tune to golf etiquette.

Overall good play when you get get it on a deal - would never pay full price to play this course.
Only matts on the driving range. Greens are faster than they appear they would be, but reasonable to putt. Wish there was a way to get people to repair their ball marks on the green - really bad this day. Navigating around the goose droppings wasn't fun - they're pretty to look at, but a problem on the course - were all over the fairways and greens.

great rate on GolfNow and worth it - the staff is great, course was/is in great shape, and the food in Longboards is excellent as is the wait-staff.
Range is off matts and not really an easy judge of getting your distances down since the range is hitting straight downhill, but the course is beautiful.
Thank you for coming out to play and for your feedback! We will work to resolve the issue of non-players on the course. We hope to see you back soon!
