Really poor conditions

Seems like this course might have been pretty decent once upon a time. Now most of the ponds are dry and the fairways aren’t being watered evenly. Sandy greens and it doesn’t look like it’s been aerated, just sandy. Fees were very low so I can’t complain too much but this course could be a lot better. Main defense is length, as there’s no trees and ponds are dry.

Beautiful course

A must play when in Sedona. One of the only public 18s in the area and set in a spectacular setting. Course itself is very good already in terms of conditions but placed in that setting is amazing. Layout pretty straight forward. Green pretty slow today but I heard they're aerating next week so I get it.

Great course and must play if you have any time in the area

Beautiful setting. Mostly wide fairways but have a few narrow fairways where a 3-wood may make more sense. Some interesting layout including the uphill 17th and a risk reward par-5 with two burns across so you can get there in 3 with 2 iron shots or try to get there in 2 with a long wood and probably end up chipping or worse. Wide open this afternoon. Probably mostly locals in the retirement community of Williams. About 40 min from Flagstaff.

A locals course, decent shape

Decent if unmemorable layout. Slick but not fast greens, if that makes sense. Okay fairway conditions but looks like it might get worse in the summer. Typical desert muni course. Not bad not particularly good. Good value but play Southern Dunes if you're just visiting. This is more of a locals retirement community course, though there's still plenty of length.

Strange course

A mix between a resort, muni, and champion level club course. Resort level scenery. Muni level conditions in some spots and service. Champion level layout. Rattler 9 was great, hard but fair, but Roadrunner 9 was just kind of stupid. On the 3rd hold I hit a great shot that landed near the 150 marker and could not find it. Course is a real ball gobbler but also means other people lose balls all over the place too so I was actually a net positive. Absolutely beautiful holes in the Tucson mountains. Saw mule deers, coyotes, and tons of roadrunners rabbits and other small animals. This place needs some real loving care to get it back to the level that it should be. Hard to imagine that it’s associated with JW Marriott as it’s definitely not on that level of service and amenities.

Excellent desert course

I know this place gets a bad reputation for service but it was adequate for me, especially from the guys in red polos. The light blue polos are a little unfriendly but not terrible.

Great course layout and one of Nicklaus best designs I feel. Resort course without being too easy. If you play the right tees you won’t have any problems making carries or forced into uncomfortable shots if you make your shots as you’re suppose to. Greens undulating but again not punishingly so and cup placements were fair. Beautiful course and probably one of my top 10 in scenery so far.

Resort course and not that memorable

All of the holes are straight forward driver then hybrid or iron. Close to no elevation to speak of and as resort courses go not very memorable. Not worth the high fees. Amenities just ok no bottled water but a good restaurant for pre and after game drinks and food.

Poor conditions at the moment

Fairways are half brown or bare. Greens are ok but does not roll true. Layout isn't as interesting as I expected. Palms surrounding greens helped pinpoint location for blind shots. Pace slowed down in the back 9 but still finished in 4.5

Narrow and slow

Babe is the shorter of the two courses but I think is harder because of the very narrow fairways. Mean front staff for some reason today, but usually is better. Very slow today about 10 minute wait on every tee box, but I guess it's due to Ike being closed.

Tough Nicklaus course!

It's not long but most of the fairways are very narrow, so those without perfect driver placement will find themselves using irons or hybrids to tee off or risk losing balls. Greens were very tough. Very undulating with pin placements at what I would call sadistic, on top of hills with 3 or 4 sides falling off. Greens were usually well protected by bunkers, water (I'd say about half is protected by water), and even one green that is basically on a cliff so that if you don't hit a 250+ yard tee shot, you basically have to lay up below the hill in order to pitch the green on top of the cliff. Very tough but fun and very scenic. I lost a dozen balls and still enjoyed myself.

Jack Nicklaus wanted to challenge you with this one!

Just so so

Overpriced for what it is. Layout isn’t really interesting and location is in a small valley next to the interstate. Paid $55 even with aerated greens. Should be more around $30-40 but I guess they got to make up for their short season. Wouldn’t stop here next time for golf.

Always a pleasure

Great course tucked just a short ways from Orange and LA county. Quite difficult with tight sloping fairways. The reprieve is that the course is relatively short and the greens aren't ridiculously undulating. Bunkers are out of commission right now, and greens are slow and bumpy but that's normal for current times. Unbelievably scenic with 360 views around the IE basin. Usually a good bargain.

Only got 9 holes through 2.5 hours

This is a short course, thought I could get in a quick 18 in 2.5 hours but only got through 9. Pretty much says it all. Conditions are poor right now with the greens in probably the worst shape of any course I've ever played.outside of aeration periods.

Hi Milton, thank you for coming out to play Birch Hills. As with all golf courses right now, we are busier than ever and we have seen some more challenges in the pace of play. We are always doing our best to make sure our rounds of golf are quick and most importantly enjoyable. We will continue to work on this and the condition of the course for your next visit.

Tight narrow with lots of slope

Played on the hottest day of the year at 109F. Fairways are pretty much dead but nice fast and relatively easy greens. Lots of tight narrow tee shots and houses are built right up to the course. Still, a rare hilly muni track with lots of elevation and fun up and down shots.

Resort style course

Wide open fairways and reachable distances make this like a typical resort style course but relatively close to the city. Quite scenic with Mt Baldy in the background on many of the holes. Aside from a couple of the par 3s the houses are set pretty far back so as to not make it too narrow like many of these housing development courses. In fact this course doesn't seem like it belongs in this mid-range housing development at all. Overall a good course and locals say it's usually pretty open in the weekday afternoons which makes it another rarity during this time.

Stinky as always

If you can stand the smell, it's a good value especially in the afternoons. Usually less than $1 per hole for full length 18 with usually okay conditions.. Today's stink was extra strong. Nominated for stinkiest finishing hole in CA! Extra rough roughs today but just don't get in the rough!

Always an enjoyable round

Can’t get a more idyllic setting than this course among the vineyards and hills of rural SoCal. First timers will find this tough without a local for pointers. Otherwise a slope heavy but fair course for all skill levels. Great conditions right now!

Immaculate conditions and awe inducing layout

First time playing and it lived up to all my expectations. I’m quite used to hill golfing in the Chino Hills and Corona area but Journey takes it to another level. The only other one that might compare was the old Champions Club before they closed. Great conditions. Luxury golf carts with enough juice to go up 500 ft hills Play this at least once in your life!

A good value but smelly

Hole 17-18 is right next to the waste water treatment so you will be heavily distracted by the smell. However it's in pretty decent condition and usually a good value. Walking only on this course right now. Chino Creek is cart exclusive, I believe. Decent layout with some dry creeks running through fairway so not a driver every time. Usually hot and a bit windy but today was just windy which will affect shots. For first timers might be confusing as the layouts will cross roads four times.
