Seven Bridges Golf Club
Played On 05/25/2022Seven Bridges
The course layout is difficult but also unique. Lots of water and i think every hole has at least on side OB. Green were very quick. Lots of slope on the greens too. If you are above the hole, its trouble. Staff were really nice and professional. Bunkers were mud, but that is typical for midwest courses.
Calumet Country Club
Played On 05/30/2020Unfortunately, we wont return...
My group was excited to get out and play this course for the first time. Unfortunately due to the knee high rough only yards off the fairways, we will not return. Not only is the layout difficult to begin with, most fairways are about 30 yards wide off the tee, but also the conditions were US open setup. Lost balls hit only a few yards off the fairway resulted in some frustrated golfers. I did enjoy the large greens that rolled true. However its shame the management couldnt get a decent maintenance staff to cut the grass before the first 4somes golf weekend in Illinois. I saw one mower the entire 18.
Summertree Golf Course
Played On 04/24/2020Fairways are MUD , Rude Staff, Greens are OK
Fairways are literally mud. The only good part of this course was the greens were challenging and rolling good. Staff was super rude. I think one angry dude runs the show there. about a 1 hour drive from Chicago
Klein Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/24/2019Solid Round at the Klien Creek
Only downside about this course is the bunkers are in need of more sand and serious maintenance. And there are a lot of bunkers here to battle! ... Green, fairways, and tee boxes were in great shape ... Pace of play for a Saturday morning was good ... i enjoy the layout here. Its tight off the tee with water in play on 15 of the 18 holes.
Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
Played On 08/11/2018The Bluff is Solid
I always enjoy playing here. The conditions are always very nice (lush fairways, fast greens). The layout is links style with very few trees on the course. Most holes you can use the driver and get away with it. Some short par 4s (#2) and some long par 4s (#16). Pace of play was average for a Sat morning (finished in 4 hr 30min). Its usually a windy track considering the open plains environment.
West at White Pines Golf Course
Played On 04/21/2018White Pines West
They really need to redo the cart paths. Currently just mud and gravel.
West is tougher than East. West plays longer and i think has tighter fairways.
Greens were rolling well. Rough was very short. Fairways were a bit muddy from a wet week of rain.
Winston Trails Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2018Winston Trails
i thought the conditions could have been better. Fairways were beat up in lots of areas. Rough was often dead/mud patches.
greens were rolling fast.
The layout here has lots of doglegs. Need to be able to work the ball both ways off the tee here to score well.
for 55$ the price was about right. If they improved course conditions, they could get away with 75$ easy.
Ravisloe Country Club
Played On 09/23/2017Nice course, but Super Slow at the 'Sloe
18 holes took 5.5 hours. Played on a Saturday afternoon. Course layout might contribute the slow play. Back to Back par 5s and Back to Back par 3s.
Conditions were very nice. Lots of pot and greenside bunkers to deal with. Overall i would return, but hope the pace of play is much better.
Hilldale Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2017Tight Fairways, Fast Greens
Played here on a Hot and Windy Saturday afternoon. Pace of play was decent until we caught up to a really slow foursome. Looked like one guy specifically was dragging the entire group to a slow pace. Front 9 = 2 hours , back 9 = 3 hours.
Fairways at Hilldale are very tight. The widest fairway is #1 and it only gets tighter from there out. Specifically #18 is maybe the tightest fairway on the course or the tightest fairway in the area. Greens are smallish in size, however roll true and fast. Its kinda what this course is known for.
The value is good here after Noon time, however just be prepared to play some target golf. You cant get away with bombing it sideways here as there is not a lot of fairway to work with.
Seven Bridges Golf Club
Played On 05/13/2017One of my new favorites
Played here on a very early weekend morning. The staff was very attentive and generous. This course is unique and challenging. A fair and true test of your golf skills. The front 9 is a little easier than the back 9. Back 9 has lots of water in play, almost every hole on the back has water. Conditions were perfect from tee to green. Super fast greens too which i love to roll the rock on. Rate can be a bit pricey at times. If they brought their rates down a bit i would play here all the time.
Starboard at Harborside International Golf Center
Played On 04/01/2017Best public course in Chicago area
Harborside has two excellent courses within 30mins from downtown Chicago. When there is no traffic it takes only 20mins.
Both are links courses with lots of bunkers. Water only comes into play on the holes 16/17/18 of each course, but the layout is very challenging and plays long from start to finish. Course conditions here are always excellent and greens run true and fast.
The practice facility is top notch.
Water's Edge Golf Club
Played On 02/22/2017Quality Track in the South Burbs
This course stays open year round when possible, so i found myself here on a 68 degree February day in Chicago. Course itself was in okay conditions considering the time of year. I've played this course multiple times and to their credit, they keep the course in good condition year round.
The first 2 holes might be the toughest on the course. Especially no2 plays long with water all the way down the right EDGE! Good mix of long and short part 4s. Fairways are tree lined. The longest par 3 on the card is 180.
Schaumburg Golf Club - Tournament/Baer Course
Played On 11/01/2016Best "park course" in West Suburbs
Schaumburg GC is one of the best "park courses" in the West Chicago Suburbs. They have 3 9's which helps keep the course interesting. The par 5s need a couple long hits to reach in two. Good mix of Short par 4's and Long Par 4's. Conditions are always pretty good from tee to green. The greens can be very fast during the hot summer months. Overall this course is super solid and i do play it consistently
Arrowhead Golf Course
Played On 04/05/2016Wide Fairways, Narrow Approaches
I found this course to be rather enjoyable. The fairways are wide open from the tee. However the most difficult shots would be approaches into heavily bunkered and water hazard greens. Greens were rolling true.
Pace of play started good then got slow as the round proceeded. Played on a Tuesday afternoon and finished the front 9 in 2 hours and the back 9 in 2 hours 45 min.
Overall i would be back as the course has good value.
Coyote Run Golf Course
Played On 12/12/2015December golf in Chicago
Played here on a unusually warm December Saturday morning. Pro shop was very accommodating and the manager is very nice gentleman.
For December, the course was in great shape with greens rolling true. My first time playing this course and i thought they layout was friendly and enjoyable. Not a long course yardage wise from the Tips, however some long par 3s will make the scoring difficult.
Saw a beautiful eagle perched on the tee box sign of 18 coming home. Overall i am looking forward to returning next season.
Canyon/Lakes at Spanish Trail Country Club
Played On 09/15/2015Tale of 2 9's
Played here early on a weekday afternoon. Our twosome finished in 3 hrs 15 min. Started with Canyon then to Lakes. Sunrise was closed due to overseed.
Canyon has just returned from overseed and in excellent conditions. This 9 is also a bit easier with wide fairways and large greens.
Lakes had yet to begin their overseed process and the fairways were a bit beat. Lakes is also a tougher 9 with more water in play and trickier tee shots to hit.
Orchard Valley Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2015Quality Round at the Orch Val
Played here on a Sat afternoon. Course was busy however we teed off at our exact scheduled tee time. Only problem was the round rook 5hrs 15min. Very slow play. Course layout might contribute to this slow down as the second hole is a long par 3 over water causing 2 or 3 groups backup.
Conditions were excellent from tee to green. Greens rolled fast and true. The practice green is very slow compared to the actual greens on the course.
Hot dog at the turn was delish thanks to a quality condiments bar.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, we are sorry to hear that pace of play affected your round. It can be difficult to effectively encourage each golfer to play “ready golf” and in an effort to further educate these players we will be creating new signage to be prominently displayed both in the pro shop as well as on the first tee. We appreciate your insight and hope you will be back to play with us again soon.
Oak Brook Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2015Dog-Leg Central and Sloped Greens
Played here on a Fri Afternoon and the round took about 5 hours. Booked a Hot Deal for a great rate.
Holes 3, 4, 5 and 6 all have severe dog legs that make the tee shot critical. Front 9 plays more difficult then back 9 due to tighter fairways and dog legs.
The greens here are true, yet very difficult to putt because the greens are severely sloped and undulating. Some Pin locations are just unfair to be honest ...
George W Dunne National Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Love this Course but Pace of Play is BRUTAL!
George Dunne is a really enjoyable and entertaining course to play. Each hole is unique and has its own character. Expect to see tons of wildlife as this course weaves in and out of a lush forest preserve area.
Only downside is they pack em in like sardines here. With my 115pm tee time on a Friday, we were delayed to a 2pm start. Then the round took a 5 hour 45 min pace. Really quite unacceptable.
This course is a treat to play, but beware this round wil take an extra few hours out of your day ...
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear that pace of play affected your round. We tend to experience a high volume of play on the course, especially on weekends with favorable weather. Our staff does their best to encourage each guest to keep a reasonable pace and apologize if you felt this was not communicated effectively. We are currently working on a few different strategies and programs designed to improve the pace, as we understand it is important to every golfer. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the conditions and atmosphere the course provides and we look forward to having you play again soon!
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 06/06/2015Unique and Challenging Layout
Played here on a Saturday at Noon. The drive from Chicago only took 30mins.
The course conditions were excellent from tee to green. The opening 6 holes are very difficult due to water harards and tight fairways. There is a real mix of wide open fairways and very narrow fairways.
The first 9 holes took 3 hours and the back 9 holes was 2 hrs 30min. So the only downside was a 5.5 hour round. The food and drinks are priced generously.
Thank you so much for your thorough review! We are so glad you enjoyed the challenge and your experience overall! We look forward to your next round!
